more often than no they now jack about games. I usually know more about release dates than they do... ok i do all the time. Their employees are douche bags. I ask about games like zak and wiki and they don't even know they exist. I was looking for a copy of eternal sonata and they stared at me blankly. i go there to buy things and try to avoid the dim witted employees.
I've got no issues with Gamestop. A few of my friends work there. While we're on the subject, I've got a question: If I bought a broken game at one location, can I take it back to another and get a refund?SmashBrosLegend
almost positively yes. you can at the very least get store credit for it (which works at all stores), but i'm pretty sure you can get your money back as long as you have the receipt.
Gamestop is ok for games, but NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER buy a console from them.
They have a 7 day warranty on their consoles when everyone else has 90 days. That is just plain silly.

at the very least, the managers should have a grasp on what is coming up for each system. they should also be able to give an unbiased assessment of all the consoles.
its pretty easy to look up a release date but they should have a general knmowledge concerning exclusives.
LOL! Where to begin?
96 percent of the employees REGARDLESS of which branch I go to know next ot NOTHING about the games, or consoles they are usually just people who need a job.
When they DO offer advice it's usually ONE SIDED and based SOLELY on thier interests and not of the customers.
For a videogame store to have LESS quantity of a hot title then say a walmart or Best Buy is pretty sad. Why should I go to a specialty store if they don't have what I'm looking for?
Employees will FORCE customers to preorder titles, buy extended warrenties or sign up for thier stupid gamecard subscription EVERY SINGLE TIME I GO IN!
You guys sell a game for 60 bucks BRAND NEW yet if I trade it in 15 minutes later I only get 20 bucks MAYBE if I'm lucky? WHY? Not to mention you'll then RESELL it for 5 dollars LESS then it is new. Example NASCAR 08 on 360 is 60 bucks BRAND NEW, trade in value $17 you then sell it used for $54.99 ******* RIP OFF!
That's for starters. Should I go on?

You do realize that a good majority of the employees are part time workers that work maybe 10 hours a week excpet the managers of course.
A lot of the employees have better things to worry about than knowing the name and features of every single release on a particular system, such as going to college full time, or high school, or even other jobs.
Most the employees come into work for 4 hours at a time not knowing what is really in stock at the time they arrive.
99.9% of the people that go into the stores know jack about video games anyway, so the employees still know more than the average person walking in.

i've known some of the people at my store and they do know a great deal about games so its just luck if you get a good employee and that goes for any retail store. i've only seen a few new games sell out of stock completely. even games like halo are in stock all the time. one exception i've seen so far is Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Can't carry as many at one time because of space.
they've changed company policy about reserves and subscriptions. the company had pulled the pressure off of the average employee. we're still supposed to sell them but they won't fire you if you've missed your goals now.
and yes, please go on.

It's called a business. How the hell do you think Gamestop became so big. Gamestop recently opened up their 5,000th the store.
Preordering titles creates a bond between the customer and the store, it guarentees that the customer will go back to the store again.
Extended Warranties are money makers. Thousand of business offer these.
The subscription is to get customers more knowledge about video games and the discount card makes sure the customer goes back to gamestop for their purchases.
And again with the trading games in. You do realize that retail store make almost nothing on selling a new copy of a game? They make their money by selling used copies. It wouldn't make any sense for a business to buy back a game for $54.99 and then resell it for $54.99.
You have problems with all these things, yet from a business point of view they are doing things 100% right.
I have heard employees say pretty outlandish things in an attempt to get a costumer to preorder something. The constant pushing for Edge cards and pre-orders get old.
Besides that, I like the selection and the pricing on some of the used games so I go back.
And once again No, I don't want to preorder anything.
My EB has gotten rid of every person who knew what they were talking about and replaced them with extremely dumb woman with big boobsin low cut tops.
It's turned into a dump...good deals you can exploit though. Buy 2bargin bin games at another store and trade them in for a free new 360 game. I saw some guy buy a new DS lite and 3 360 games for $50 worth in traded in games.darklord888
Haha I was going to ask if your EB was near mine cos they seem to have done the same thing, but I see that you're an Aussie, so its unlikely! I went into buyMass Effect on the day it was released and they hadn't heard of the game .... (which they had in stock behind the desk but not out in the store).

there is one gamestop with nice people right by my house.
and another one close to my house has freakin @@@****** who worked there.
they were out of ds's once(we were looking for one for my little brother), and my dad said before i could stop him, do you know any other place that sells these?
and they guy said "no"
and we went to target right next to the gamestop and they had like 10 of them.
again, it depends on the people who work there, and the management.
Gamestop? Wait a minute, I work there! LOL! In any case, before I was an associate at Gamestop, I NEVER had problems at my local Gamestop; the employess knew their games and though some associates/advisors lean toward one console, they're obligated to know about the rest. I myself help out any customers, and hell, last week, there was one kid asking whether he should buy a PS3 or a 360; I was baffled but kept my cool and told him about both consoles. I'm no fanboy, and I offered my take on both consoles and what they both had to offer. He asked me about the graphics, I told him they're barely noticeable on an SDTV, which the boy had. He never owned an Xbox, only a PS2, but fortunately, he ACTUALLY wanted to know about the 360 with no bias towards it.
Gears of War and Metal Gear Solid 4 piqued his interests, so I told him he could buy the PS3 and play Gears of War on the PC, but lo and behold PC fanboys/hermits, his PC wasn't up to date, so I told him Metal Gear Solid 4 was a long ways away, and the 360 offered Gears of War and Halo 3, which also piqued his interest. I told him about the multiplatform games, but he wasn't interested. Told him about Blu Ray; in Mexico, where he's from, they don't care about Blu Ray and still play DVDs, so the Blu Ray aspect of the PS3 was null and void, but I told him it still played DVDs. I took TWENTY FIVE minutes of my time to explain everything to him about the two systems, what worked and what could be improved; he ultimately chose the 360, even though I told him about the failure rate, but the games interested him. Gears of War sold the system for the kid, but had MGS4 been out on the PS3, things probably would've been different, especially if he had a PC.
Told him about Mass Effect, Uncharted, Assassin's Creed, R&C, Resistance, Halo 3, and Call of Duty 4; out of those, he was only interested mildly into Halo 3. I told he could try out Halo 2 for the PC, especially since he told me his PC could handle the game with the specs he had. Therefore, GoW and MGS4 were the true difference makers, but GoW was already out for the 360, so he chose that instead.
Some associates actually take their time to explain in depth about everything a console has to offer; however, we don't dive into system specs because to the consumer, the AVERAGE consumer, they're unimportant. The games ARE what's important. All this silly talk of not explaining specs is BS, it's the games and the system's media capabilities that interest a consumer. Call Gamestop what you will, but it's where I buy games because I've never had a problem there, plus I get 15% off. :D
To be honest, I've yet to walk into a gamestop in my area that wasn't run by gaming nerds behind the counter, and I say that with all due respect hahaha. This idea that gamestop hires inept gamers baffles me, but perhaps I'm lucky in that case. However, the gamestop managers are a completely different story, and I have had numerous bad experiences when they are behind the counter.
One time I was thinking about getting Dynasty Warriors 4 (hahahaha) and I walked in and I thought about it for awhile. Since I was relatively naive, I decided to ask for advice. When I asked about whether this game was worth it, he replied with "it's the last one in stock, last one in stock, buy it before it runs out of stock" and me, still being naive, decided to purchase the game solely on the merit that it was the last one in stock (it was an old game at the time, so it seemed plausible that they wouldn't get more copies for awhile). So I purchase the game, and guess what I see happen a few hours later walking by? The same d-bag pulling the same line on the same game, this time on a middle-aged mother. I was furious. I knew that it was impossible for them to have received a new shipment while I was gone (it wasn't on their delivery day which I happened to know) which means HE LIED TO ME. THE D-BAG GAMESTOP MANAGER LIED TO ME TO MAKE A SALE. I have never before encountered a situation when someone (especially a manager) would stoop to such a low as to make a blatant lie (not even a sugar-coated one) in order to make a sale. And not only that, but I had visual confirmation he was doing it to others as well.
Now, I wouldn't be so miffed if this was one isolated case (because there are tons of other gamestops I can go to), but both my close friends and I have seen this kind of d-baggery at multiple gamestops across the state. Which means to me that there is a serious problem in Gamestop management, for this kind of disreputable behavior to be prevalent at such a high level and at so many different branches.
This is why I hate Gamestop. This may also be why others hate Gamestop as well. If you'd like me to entertain you with more Gamestop horror stories, please let me know, I've got a few more that I can share.
one thing about GameStop that bothers me is I bought a brand new game from them, but the case was already open and they got the disc from behind the counter in a sleeve. That just sits funny with me.
But what is disturbing is that in their own sales ad, they say (and I paraphrase) "No game that is returned opened is considered new." but I just bought the game new. So if it doesn't work im screwed, even though you sold it to me like this?
Now, my GS is pretty cool and i'm pretty sure they would understand, but i can easily see me getting some nerd on a bad day giving me crap.
So I only use them to buy used games and clearance older items.
Here's my list:
1. Used games are way over priced
2. Used games are bought at an unfairly low price
3. Workers are pretty annoying with "you got anything for trade?" or "C'mon, I KNOW you want to reserve this!!!"
4. Increasing prices on used games whenever they actually have a good sale on (like B2G1, etc)
The some of the people that work there are dullards and have crappy attitudes, making my shopping experience there frustrating.
It's a ripoff. Selling a used game for 5 bucks less than new when you've bought the game for 25 bucks tops is insulting.
No, I don't want to buy Game Informer and I don't want to have to tell you that 3 TIMES.
DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT, tell me that an opened game is brand new. I almost came to blows over this once, because the clerk almost made the mistake of insisting I buy a game that was opened. This was the straw, I no longer shop there for anything.
The above events didn't happen in one store (except the last) but various stores in my area (NYC)..
Gamestop is one of the most unprofessional places I have ever spent money in outside of a flea market.
I can't believe what some poeple are saying about Gamestop. If you have a problem with your local gamestop then shop online or at an indie gamestore or something. These people, mostly kids, working there are just trying to make a check. Bad employees are everywhere in the job market. You'll always get that one person you just want to kill everywhere, whether it be at a store, gamestop, grocery store, clothing store, etc.
Stupid employess are one thing. Yes, they are everywhere. But stupid employees + anti consumer policies = a really crappy retail experience. And you are right, you should go elsewhere. I did.I can't believe what some poeple are saying about Gamestop. If you have a problem with your local gamestop then shop online or at an indie gamestore or something. hayato_
And the employees being there just to earn a check doesn't cut it. That could be used for any situation for any job. The people that work there should be trained better.
The trade in values are a rip. The used game prices are a rip. The "new" games come already opened, so you have they have to pull the disc from behind the counter... so I guess you couldnt return it as new, because they would see it's already unwrapped like you've played it for 5 hours even if you just walked out to your car and decided you didnt want it. I dont like the way they push the edge card or whatever on you... some guys are cool with it but others act like I'm an idiot, or that I'm making a "big" mistake. When I bought MGS4 this guy pretty much "scolded" me on why I should have bought an edge card.
Um... and that's pretty much it I believe.
Gamestop is one of the worst shopping locations known to man.
They rip people off in trade ins.
They sell used games by pretty much just skimping off the tax. $5 lol
They try to sell you new games used.
Their return policy is crap
They sell you a defective Halo 3 which you open infront of the counter and refuse to exchange or replace it
BIG PROBLEM 1
BIG PROBLEM 2
Their employees are a joke and their management is a joke. They don't care about anything but the bottom line. I refuse to shop there.
I'm glad the changed the policy about subs/reserves. One of my friends worked there as an ASM and went through 8 different store managers in 12 months.
People gripe about the relentless sales pitches but those poor saps jobs all depended on people buying reservations and subscriptions
He refused a promotion because he knew he would be fired if he didn't make his sales goals so it made it impossible for him to advance and he finally quit in frustration.
The other problem is that Gameinformer is more of a shill for games that the company orders many copies of than a legit review source.
Any game that comes in in large quantities is a lock for a 8-10 score in GI.
They have fanboys that get pissed off too easily
I was talking to my friend and i'm like "na, I'm not gonna reserve Brawl, no point" and the ass walks over like he's some big pro hotshot golfer and starts trying to lecture me about how it's going to be sold out...

lol Yeah I traded in Halo 3 like two weeks after I bought it and the guy behind the counter was like, "Question is: why would you want to trade it in?"
well one time the gamestop guy who was working there told me that the game i was gonna buy was cool so i bought it and then i didn't like it so that means that gamestop stores in general are bad advice givers
also one time there was this girl working at a gamestop who didn't seem like she knew that much about games so i think thats really bad because they need to all be experts
i mean seriously its a store so it has to be a lot more than just a place to buy a game that you want. you have to be able to get all your life info from gamestop or else it's a crap store.
also, i'm too paranoid to sell on eBay and you don't get as good value from Gamestop as you would selling on eBay so that's another reason Gamestop sucks.
seriously it's not about buying the game that you've decided you want - it's about the feeling of being in the store when you take it off the shelf, and what the employee says and looks like too, that's like as important as playing the game.
I see where you are coming from. It's a bit too much to ask people at a specialty store to be.....SPECIALISTS.well one time the gamestop guy who was working there told me that the game i was gonna buy was cool so i bought it and then i didn't like it so that means that gamestop stores in general are bad advice givers

When I got to a camera store to buy a camera, I'm looking for a complete ass that knows absolutely nothing about cameras.
THAT'S SERVICE!
1. i dont like how they try and sell you a NEW game thats been open. They say that they have to open them to check inventory.....I call it bs.
2. The day that GTA4 came out, I went to a Gamespot to pick one up. The guy was like, if you dont have a reserve, then we cant sell you a copy. He also sad that everyone is sold out, well i went to the Toys R Us right up the street and picked one up......10 mintues later.
3. If its not a FPS game, then they dont know what they are talking about.
4. ALL GAMESTOPS are ran by fanboys....More 360 and PS3.
you're probably one of those guys who complains at an ice cream store that there's not enough nuts and just makes life difficult for others, huh.I see where you are coming from. It's a bit too much to ask people at a specialty store to be.....SPECIALISTS.

I just don't understand all the complaining. i don't think Gamestop is a wonderland either, but if you want to buy a new game and have one close, the price will be the same as anywhere and it's not like they give you broken games.
i think gamestop is great.when i went on vaction to virginia beach there were 18 gamestops within 15 miles of each it was nuts there were even two gamestops in one mallhello12367890
It like that here too. There two gamespots in the mall, one across from the mall, and then another about a block from the mall. I like the Gamespots around here the people seem to know what they are talking about and there is always great deals on used games.

They just work there. Maybe they dont sit on the game forums getting up to date information, every night. I always know more than the employes at my game stop, but Im on the computer every night. I should know more. I just think its wrong to bash them because there not all video game nerds.
Never trade games in there or you will be ripped off. My Gamestop is pretty good though. The employees know about games.
