Ok first off my prayers go out to the people of Japan. They are going through one of the worst disasters in modern times. Myself and I am sure the rest pray for a swift recovery and that their nuke plants stabalize. They of course have bigger things to worry about but since this horrible tragedy has happened I was just wondering your thoughts.

This is from Bloomberg-

Companies including Sony Corp. (6758) and Toyota Motor Corp. (7203) halted output at plants after an 8.9- magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Japan, damaging production facilities and causing power outages.

Sony halted and evacuated six factories in northeastern Japan, said Yasuhiro Okada, a spokesman at the Tokyo-based company. He said the company was assessing the impact of power outages and damage to its facilities in the region, which make Blu-ray discs, magnetic heads and batteries.

Japan is a major buyer of the Playstation brand. For example the PS3 has sold around 5-6 million more consoles then the 360 in Japan so just imagine total sales without Japan.

Sony I would think will have a lot of trouble shipping and producing their product right now. I would think for a few months there will be a shortage on workers also until they are able to get back to work. There is also huge power outages with the last time I heard 4 million without power. The power outages I would think will effect Sony to a major degreee also.

seriously tho my prayers go to all japan, hope they recover quickly from this

It won't affect it for awhile, they should have a sizable backlog and the people of japan aren't going to be buying them en masse for awhile now.

Or maybe it will make the japanese buy new consoles to replace the ones that were broken. Who knows, or cares really, they've got far bigger problems.

It shouldn't affect it too badly, I'm sure Sony won't be too worried and like the rest of us will be more worried about the people of Japan.

It might affect shipments of the system for a while, and that might end up causing a higher desire for the system if people start to think they can't get it.

As a modern day member of the US Army, imo, that may be the sickest joke I ever read here. Two Atomic bombs dropped in 1945 more than made up for Pearl Harbor. Now I myself posted a joke about the PS3 flopping, as in off shelves during the quake, but those people owe nothing for Pearl. It's a done situation, and they are great allies to us now.

I think firebombing all of their cities and Fat Man and Little Boy more than made up for all the terrible things the Japanese did.

I'm sure they got bigger things to worry about than video games right now. Of course my thoughts are with the people of Japana and hope they can make a steady recovery.

That said, I'm sure Sony will be able to weather this situation. Also gotta add that Nintendo is in the same boat.

Looking at Croft in your sig, I can't help but say Jessica Biel would fit the part nicely in the next TR film.

I think it'll affect the NGP a bit more than it'll affect the PS3, if only because parts of Japan (one of the largest handheld markets in the world) probably won't be too focused on directing their money towards new, expensive devices.

Yeah, they're probably going to stop buying PS3 consoles because the factories are not producing them. But I hear the MS factory is still pumping them out.

Not sure if you're serious, but initially that's kinda what I was thinking too... but this is coming from Rybe... what do you expect? Any sort of doom news for PS3 is worth posting in his eyes... I think his post was fairly appropriate though. He mentioned he was praying for those in Japan and what not... but yeah, in the end still uses the tragedy as a way to discuss what could be an unfortunate situation for Sony.

I hate to get too off topic here, in light of it's tragic nature. But I heard both Summer Glau and Olivia Wilde are in the running to get the role (heard it from Summer herself at a convvention last year), which is an origins story reboot, going back to Lara when she was 21. Me personally, I really hope to see Summer in the part.

Anyway, Japan's got a great deal of trials still to endure, so the gaming scene is going to have to take a back seat for now. Let's all hope for as many to be rescued as can be.

Fear of nuclear reactor.
