reply to bobbos post. The point of these estimations is not to see what type of people are buying what consoles, where demographic readings would come in handy. It is just to show an estimations of console/game sold. and thats it.

Vgchartz is designed for the fans, people who are interested in the number of Hardware and software sold, it does this perfectly well as you don't need exact numbers to see if something sold really well or failed to live up to expectations.

Unlike bobbo I don't belive VGchartz to be as good as NPD, but it is good ENOUGH for my needs and I believe in time, as VGchartz grows it will make more contacts, gather more datawhich willimprove it's accuracy, indeed it's already improving.

It's pity that people like Mjarantilla, who seem to be extreamly hostile and rude - are too closed minded to see how useful VGchartz actually is.

Not only does it provide impressive amounts of background information and easy to use charts it's also updated weekly and has a very friendly forum community.

I don't understand how the people in NeoG can say how dreadful it is that games are censored and then allow the Mods(!) to censor this useful site (even if you disagree with it's present numbers it's background data and charts are great) it should be up to each person to decided how useful the numbers of VGchartz are and not simply dismiss this source.

My advice? ignore the people who insult VGchartz and check it out for yourself at www.vgchartz.com and judge it fairly

First;I don't claim that the NPD is lying. bobbo

Actually, you implied this so strongly that only some nonsentinent species could not notice it.

I am posetive that NPD does as good as they can. But in my and others opinion missing numbers from big chains like Walmart makes it valid to question their numbers correctness.

bobbo

Good that you have an opinion - still, you need to validate it if you wish for it to be taken seriously.

I have just read all i have written in this thread. I don't implie once thave NPD is lying. What i do implie is that we don't know how correct NPD's numbers are. They are not verifiable. I question their accuracy since they miss important data in their estimations (Walmart) and others)

I suggest you read what i have written again.

The problem with estimations is that i can't validate my claims. Sales tracking isn't exact and abosulote. It's realtive. That is unless you track all games/hardware sold to the consumer. Nobody does that.

What i can do is what i have done , and that is to question the end data provided by NPD. I don't take them as thruth, but as estimates. Mostly accurate, but the "walmart" problem mean that they will be off form time to time. How much they are off or how close to the real numbers they are, no one knows.

Vgchartz estimate useing statistical metodes aswell. Theymostly get results quite close to the NPD. NPD has been the industry standard for quite som time. Vgchartz have been very close to the NPD numbers forseveral monthsnow. That tells me that they are doing something right.....

Erm, you specifically said to never trust "a company in a monopoly situation", referring to NPD. This cannot be construed in any way other than to imply that NPD cannot be trusted. Maybe the word "lying" is too loaded. However, your tone throughout the thread (which you might wish to modulate, by the way. You're not helping yourself) is quite negative towards NPD, without any good reason whatsoever other than your desire to assume mistakes in their procedure. Interestingly, it's quite hypocritically positive towards VGChartz.

I believe your problem stems from your own construed "arguments" against NPD. You seem to take anyone who trusts NPD to provide reliable information as someone who blindly believes they're perfect. They're not. Nobody has ever stated or implied this in the thread. I'm actually baffled someone would think this way.

On the other hand, you seem to be very lenient with VGChartz. "Oh, they're 20% off? That's all right, they got pretty close!" - that's nonsense. Nobody in their right minds would allow such a huge uncertainty in a market like this. You criticize NPD quite thoroughly on either minor issues out of their control (not being able to get Walmart sales), or on made up assumtions to further your cause, while glossing over major issues with VGChartz.

I simply question if you have a point at all anywhere: Your argument seems to base itself on a very simple double standard, deliberately (I hope, I sincerely hope) misunderstanding the stance of those who believe in NPD in order to "beat" them through the use of rather obvious observations, while at the same time defending with cape and sword a notably unreliable competition.

Excellent post and I agree 100%.
