since xbox live cost you $50 a year plus $20 extra on game plus $5 plus for new maps plus the play and charge kit (you know you need it)  tell me how pc gaming is expencive again?

in under 1 year I have saved the price of 1.5 years not to mention the expencise above.

a $600 pc now will beat ps3/x360 now or in 10 years time, you don't need to upgrade to keep up.  consoles = geforce 7600gt = midrange going lowend once 8600 comes out.

A yearly upgrade of your videocard, and I'm talking about midrange enthusiast level cards. Will keep your graphic capabilities on par with whatever consoles are on the market.

A price comparison.

I buy 20 PS3/Xbox 360 games in one year...$1200

I buy 20 PC games and a $200 video card in one year...It's $1200. More expensive? Uhm, not really.

Anyone who upgrades their video card yearly has to much money or to little sense.

PC gaming can be very cheap or very expensive depending on what games you enjoy (strategy games aren't as system intensive as say FPS) and whether or not you want to be able to play everything as soon as it's released at max detail and high res.

I own a high-end PC, and I spent less than $1200 for it. I play every game on max/ultra-max.

Why? I can resell my video cards on eBay and make a lot of that money back, and from the money I save buying $60 console games, I am up to date. But it's not just video cards though, you can use that money to buy RAM, CPUs, whatever.

I'm just pointing out that because PC games are usually in the $30-50 range, and not the $60 one. That PC gaming is NOT EXPENSIVE.

In other words some ppl just want to play PC games and don't care about getting the games maxed out. But others might want to and then they have to pay more. But I really see that as a weakness in PC gaming related to consoles.

Okay, but buying a new video card every year is unnecessary.

If you know how to build a computer right you should have to update more then once every 2 and half years or 3, only idiots do a power upgrade each year.

I see it as a weakness since with consoles all you need to play the latest games ''maxed out'' is to have the console, you can have a launch 360/PS3 or Wii and in it's dead bed time it will play the latest games no need to upgrade anything.

Yeah but for the most part FPS is the most system intensive genre. Strategy, RPG, Simulation, racing, sports and action/adventure generally will run on less powerful PCs than the big FPS games. There is exceptions to every rule though.

Armed Assault is a simulator and it's pretty hardware intensive.

If you resell it on ebay, you aren't spending $200 for it every year, though I'm not sure why you would even bother doing that. And other components arent that expensive. You may need to upgrade RAM once for under $100 (if you just add to the ram you have already) during an entire console generation.

Mainly because the developers have to take into account the difference in hardware; just as developers for consoles have to optimize graphics for owners of SDTVs and HDTVs.

M2TW surpasses Gears in about every departement apart from individual detail...

It has higher poly count on screen

BRUTTALLY HUGE draw distance

Insane amount of textures

Insane numbers of character son screen

Higher res

The only people who say that P.C. gaming is more expensive are those who are to lazy to do research and to shop around for parts.roulettethedog

And those who are to ignorant to admit that PC gaming is affordable.

Keep going name others. PC gaming gets much more praise than it deserves. The other poster said that it's because devs. have to take time to work on the new hardware but in the meantime it means it's useless to have a rig with the latest specs.

Oblivion with texture mods. STALKER sans the character models (the environments are crazy good). Sup Com looks freaking awesome maxxed out. Obviously games incoming like Crysis and Alan Wake. And it really gets much, much less praise than it deserves. Already the PC 2007 library has 3 AAAs and more AAs than any other console, yet it basically goes unmentioned.

You can mention many recent games and mods but you gotta admit Gears was the best looking game for a good while and it's really obvious that games improve on PC, though the texture mods don't make the greatest difference either but here's the catch upcoming games will require you to upgrade soon if you plan to play them at max, specially Crysis.

You are nuts my friend. I like PC gaming too, but it is more expensive. There is really no arguing that fact. A $600 PC isn't much of a PC. I mean my Power Supply cost over $100 for my PC.

Gears is a fantastic looking game, but it's really the exception rather than the rule. If you want to play most games at absolute max though, yes PC gaming is expensive. But then again so is console gaming, you need a HDTV to experience max visuals there.

I buy 20 PC games and a $200 video card in one year...It's $1200. More expensive? Uhm, not really.

bloodychimp

Anyone who upgrades their video card yearly has to much money or to little sense.

yet you will happily spend the same on the extra price of games?

[QUOTE="tegovoltio"][QUOTE="True_Gamer_"][QUOTE="tegovoltio"][QUOTE="Danm_999"] Oblivion with texture mods.

As you will see from UT3 a single 8800GTS + C2D6300 ($400 approximately) will run the game at higher detail than Gears...

And you call that cheap?

Well a decent non gaming PC that has Vista already has the RAM and the CPU its just the GPU that makes a difference... The money saved on games can make up any price difference that may come up...

If you know how to build a computer right you should have to update more then once every 2 and half years or 3, only idiots do a power upgrade each year.Zenkuso

If you resell it on ebay, you aren't spending $200 for it every year, though I'm not sure why you would even bother doing that. And other components arent that expensive. You may need to upgrade RAM once for under $100 (if you just add to the ram you have already) during an entire console generation.

if I have spare parts sitting around it make me want to use them to build a second gaming pc, but if i sell them if forget about doing thats as well as making the upgrades cheaper

Most people that upgrade once a year ain't hobbiest they are generally young gamers who want there rigs to run at the best fps at the highest settings.

[QUOTE="tegovoltio"]PC gaming is as expensive as whatever you pretend to do.tegovoltio

Come again?

In other words some ppl just want to play PC games and don't care about getting the games maxed out. But others might want to and then they have to pay more. But I really see that as a weakness in PC gaming related to consoles.

I don't see how that's a weakness, but it is true.

I see it as a weakness since with consoles all you need to play the latest games ''maxed out'' is to have the console, you can have a launch 360/PS3 or Wii and in it's dead bed time it will play the latest games no need to upgrade anything.

Console games=PC games on medium

PC games "maxed out">>>>>>>>>>>>>>Console games

How come hardly any other PC game looks like Gears right now? Yea PC gets updated more but you have to update as well if you want to follow thus my first comment.

stalker owns every console shooter to date, large multi pathed environment >>>graphics plus tell me what other game shows the grass blowing in the wind, the only reason gears looks better is because it was the first ur3 game, come back when unreal 3 come out and tell me which looks better

Well your take on that is obviously different since I don't consider spending all that to run the game a bit better is far from cool specially if you were to upgrade the other components when a $300 core 360 can run games that come close to those, specially STALKER which I thin could be easly ported to consoles.

[QUOTE="imprezawrx500"]

since xbox live cost you $50 a year plus $20 extra on game plus $5 plus for new maps plus the play and charge kit (you know you need it) tell me how pc gaming is expencive again?

in under 1 year I have saved the price of 1.5 years not to mention the expencise above.

a $600 pc now will beat ps3/x360 now or in 10 years time, you don't need to upgrade to keep up. consoles = geforce 7600gt = midrange going lowend once 8600 comes out.

snyper1982
You are nuts my friend. I like PC gaming too, but it is more expensive. There is really no arguing that fact. A $600 PC isn't much of a PC. I mean my Power Supply cost over $100 for my PC.

it doesn't take much of a p/s to run a 7600gt + 3600 x2 those will match a 360 and the cpu will beat 360's. the p/s that come with a decent case will do most of the time only sli and really highend cpus need the $100+ power supplies. my $60 one 2 years ago runs my system perfect

Yea but you did have to upgrade several at some point didn't you? When it comes to playing PC games at max your components get old faster than in consoles.
