To me, graphics are just as important as any other major aspect of a game.Good visuals can immerse me in a game just as much as a compelling story or a soundtrack that really sets the tone of the game. However when I say "graphics", I'm not referring to the level of technical advancement of the game engine; I'm referring to the aesthetic design of the game, which ranges from the art direction to the scenery/level design to the animations. Things like that are what make even old games like Half-Life 2 look good, and I think more people would agree that graphics were important if they thought of it the way I do.

Graphics are extremely important to the immersion factor in a game.

Oh, i love your icon btw, skinny puppy ftw!

its the most importmant imho its why the ps3 is king because of the ps3 games that are graphics kings. every time theres a ps3 game graphics king there will be lots of threads about it because its true and graphics is the most important

If the Wii or 360 were the tops in console graphics, would you still feel this way? And if graphics are that important, why not game and support the PC as much as you do PS3?

To be honest, graphics really don't matter that much anymore, now that we have the PS3 and its' cell processor, the only thing really holding back games being aesthetically pleasing is innovation. People aren't going to play UC3 for the photorealistic graphics, it's for the gameplay.

If the game properly uses graphical technology as a part of game play or to create the atmosphere, then they are very important. Otherwise, high quality graphics may not be necessary, but in most cases improving them would do wonders for the overall experience.

It's very important. You may have the best gameplay in the industry, but if the graphics are sub-par, you don't get the atmosphere and general feel of the environment (though, it would depend on the game you are playing ex. adventure games vs. general shooters)

as long as graphics make a better game than the opposition then they really matter... when they make the game less beautifull (even if you cannot tell it unless youvisit LOT or DF) then they do not matter!!!

Graphics are fairly important but the technical aspects are not really that important.

Graphics are only somewhat important, Story, gameplay these are the most important. When it comes to graphics graphics preformance are what matter, not how pretty they are but whether they have tearing, low fps...etc.

Graphics are the only thing that don't matter. As of last gen, graphics have been good enough and soit's now irrelevant.

Graphics need to be clear and work in context of the game. For example Gears of War whilst being a technically great graphics is a little difficult to play at times since the colours can wash into each other. Crysis has nice bright colours and looks close enought to reality to be easy on the eyes.

But then ont he otehr end of the spectrum you have games like Sonic the Hedghog 2which still looks amazing to this day due to the detailed sprites and easy to destiguish environments. Even at high speeds everything is easy to look at.

Important enough to spark endless bickering between rival fanboy factions and important enough to dump millions of dollars into R&D for new, more powerful GPUs.

I only like graphics when there's good performance to go with them :)

I love maxing out my games on the PC, but I also love the Wii.

I don't like playing on the PS3 and 360 when the games are all choppy even though they look good.

Graphics are extremely important, however, it's important depending on what game it is.

Shortest way of saying this would be, if a game is supposed to be realistic, then it should be "clean" and shouldn't have blurry parts or noticeable pixels and a game not supposed to have realistic graphics shouldn't have realistic graphics.

I suppose the point I'm getting at is, for example, CoD games on the Wii look bad because it's supposed to be "realistic" but looks ugly. However, Minecraft has what some people could say to be "bad graphics" but however, if Minecraft's graphics were anything else I couldn't imagine the game having its same charm or basically, it wouldn't be Minecraft for me anymore.

I hope my point got through :3

gameplay comes before graphics. But these days you kind of need decent graphics too. One thing I hate about newer games, they just have extra long cut-scenes to show off the graphics, which will be outdated in a few years. I'm playing a game, not watching a movie. Honestly I don't even care about the story as much. it's the gameplay that matters.

Graphics aren't the be-all & end-all of a game for me, but they are definitely important. Take Bioshock for example, the awesome graphics make Rapture that much more enjoyable to explore. Same with Uncharted, it really enhances the experience. But then there are games like Red Faction which don't have the best graphics ever, but have fantastic gameplay.

I have said this alot. People are always saying "Gameplay over Graphics". This is not true for all games. Many games require graphics for better gameplay and cinematic action. COD BO for example, has some pretty graphics that help create spectaculuar scripted sequences. Crysis, uses it's amazing graphics and tech to enhance gameplay, the forests wouldn't have looked to good on shabby hardware. Amnesia, though not quite graphically great, really needs it's level of graphics to retain it's atmoshphere. Same could be said about STALKER
