Violence is pretty meh with me. Sure there's series I like that are violent like Devil May Cry and God of War, but then it wasn't the violence that attracted me but the good gameplay.

I REALLY hope no one says violence is important in a game. That person would lose ALL his or her ccredibility by saying that.

Well...to be honest I don't think Gears of War, Resistance, Metal Gear Solid, God of War, Resident Evil, Call of Duty, GTA, etc. etc. etc. + hundreds more games. Would be the same without some levels of violence. :| Heck even Mario and Rachet& Clank have mild violence in them.
But oh, it looks like I've lost all credibility now.
The game I want to play most is Trico. Its like a Miyazaki film and has very little violence. It is not important to me at all. Violence has no inherent effect on the quality of a game.

hmmm if you ask me a game like MGS is better off without all the crazy violence. It also reminds me how insanely bloody MGS2 was. Just killing 4 guards and seeing their blood spill all over the place was a bit to over the top for me.

Crazy violence =\= the violence needed to make the above games even....imagineable.
Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds? You have seen 2 minutes of footage, with absolutely no description of what is going on, and you're acting like you know what the game is going to be like. That is just silly. Don't you see how crazy that sounds? You were in that thread yesterday, trying to discredit the people who weren't impressed by that teaser. It's ridiculous how you can try to make such hefty claims based on two minutes of .. well.. basically "test footage". how do you know? The rest of the game could be inspired by GWAR. That doesn't fit Team ICO's MO, but ... let's not be hasty with the assumptions. At any rate, beyond that, I agree more or less. Violence.. for me, doesn't effect the overall quality of the game. But I must say, a game with violence is generally fun, where as a game without violence takes a good bit of ingenuity to be successful. The game I want to play most is Trico. Its like a Miyazaki film and has very little violence. It is not important to me at all. Violence has no inherent effect on the quality of a game.

Oh, also, I just wanna get this off my chest... I am still confused, is this thread about violence, which is a VERY broad, and suggestive term, or specifically Gore? because I can only think of a handfull of games EVER that don't include some form of violence. 0rin
Exactly.

It might be me but I really don't understand why you think that game is so special. We know nothing about the game. All the game had to show case for was a 2 min long teaser which did not give us any info on the game. Your already calling it the game of this generation without any info about the game. It just seems odd and silly to me.

Not important. If it fits with the context of a game than it's needed. I can't imagine something like Gears of War without violence.

Violence is more likely to turn me off a game (Prototype) but I never really care.Would you want to buy a game just because it is violent even if it gets bad reviews. Would you be turned off to buya game because it is not violent enought to you. Would you bash a sequal because the violence was toned down

It might be just me I guess. I coulden't play SOTC more then once. It was uniqe but also short and lacked the reason to play the game again.
Speculating is fine and what not, it's just when you start discrediting people because they don't share your opinion on the TrICO trailer...Aljosa23
violence doesn't matter on its own. but it can make a game look more complete and immerses you in the game if things look realistic. making the game more fun, but not necessarily
Depending on the game, violence is important. If the game is say a war game which is trying to protray realism, then to have no blood or violence, it would be off my wish list. if a game is supposed to protray somethin violent, then it needs to be violent. if a game is supposed to be family friendly or non violent then no violence is not necessary. i just wont buy a game that requires violence and does not have any.
Yes a lil violence does matters i can't stand playing cute lil games especially from Wii i rather let my 5yr old cousin play instead of me ..plus i want my shooting games to be a bit violence or like God of War action games...
Depends on the game
Burnout = car crushing is enough, I don't need gore
Gears of War = more blood the better
Soul Calibur = I want less damage to appear , people should keep the clothes on and I don't want to much blood (if any, it's not MK)
Mario = don't make mushrooms bleed thats just wrong
etc etc etc
I can only say that violence importance depends on the type of game, sure, a game like World of Goo doesn't need violence, but a game like Manhunt is another story. It is only important if it is part of the essence of the game and not only a pretext to put an M in your Artbox so more kids buy your violent, yet, lousy game.
To me violence is extremely important...you are what you seeWould you want to buy a game just because it is violent even if it gets bad reviews. Would you be turned off to buya game because it is not violent enought to you. Would you bash a sequal because the violence was toned down

If anything, violence is more of a turn off than a turn on. I look at it the same way that I look at horror films: You have good horror movies that rely on actually being a good movie in order to succeed and are actually scary. Stuff like the Ring and 6th Sense fits this description. Then you have horror films that are crap, they know they are crap but they try to sugar coat it with gore. Your typical teen slasher flick is like this. They aren't even legitimately scary. The scares come from people jumping out from behind corners and other cheap tricks. My little brother could hide behind a door, jump out and surprise me.... but that doesn't make my little brother a good horror movie. When I see over the top gore in a game, It makes me think that the game sucks and they hope that adding in a decapitation will somehow make you happy to be playing a crummy game. Especially if there is a less violent game in that genre that is really good. Halo has no dismemberment and very little blood but it's one of the best FPS out there. Super gore makes a game seem very kiddy to me. It's like the most basic thing that will wow a 14 year old and it feels like the majority of games today are aiming for that target. Its one of my major complaints about Fallout 3.Senor_Kami
I totally agree. Violence/gore is like sex ... a way to distract from a lack of depth and subtlety. For the most part, gore-fests are a turn off for me as they so commonly have very little of interest beyond that single point in a game.
Some violence is needed in some games just to make them realistic ... but anything that focuses on it generally is aiming for an immature crowd.
If you want real violence and gore, then perhaps you should volunteer for the armed forces. Nothing is more real than holding a real gun in Iraq or Afghanistan and seeing real gore. Anything else is just for pansys.
Sadly, most people who love violent shooters can't and won't step up and participate in the real thing. While I have utmost respect for our service members, people who love violent games and aren't willing to take the next step are incredibly weak in comparison to the real men in the services.
