Value is determined by demand and willingness for consumers to part with their money.
The Wii is probably worth slightly more than $300.

exactly right. if value was in the component why would you pay more than a few dollars for clothes that are made in 3rd world nations for a less than a buck?

I wouldnt be making assumptions about me you dont know me...
How is the first Superman comic (Action Comics #1) worth tens of thousands of dollars? It says 10 cents right on the cover!!!Zerostatic0
and guess how much the first Nintendo system is worth... :|

Something is worth what ever someone is willing to pay.....That it

DRAM: $7.80
Optical disk drive: $31.00
Power supply: $11.30
Manufacturing cost: $19.50
Cost total: $158.30

However, this does not include Wii Sports,Wii-mote,and Nunchuck, which would raise the total cost to somewhere near $250.

the Nintendo itself is not rare but a good one sells for about $50 but there are games on the system that go into high $100s
Nintendo makes a pretty huge profit off every console sold. Something around $70 I think (considering all the extra stuff you get, like controllers and wiisports).
Justification?
-the console will sell for under $100, probably as soon as demand dies down. A $99 would be so hot that it would have a negative image as a result. It's the the market. It's like all those people that criticise the oil companies for marking up gas prices. Oil still costs the same to produce, but demand dictates that that they sell at higher price or supply would crumble
-when you innovate in smart ways like nintendo did, you get rewarded. Any idiot can spend billions of dollars andproduce an exciting piece of tech. That's what sony and ms did, and we have to pay a lot for their consoles as a result. I dont think anyone would agree that the price of thehardware capabilityis what the wii is worth. That totally overlooks motion sensing, which is the selling point of the wii, as well as one of its least expensive aspects. Nintendo brought it all together, at HUGE risk and are rewarded for it now. Sony and MS took the safe route, which is costly to them and us

We have a winner, Im not buying the raw production conponets im buying the final product at the price I think it's worth, no amount of cost accounting will tell me if it's "worht" it or not.

I read the Wiimote costs $7 to make and the Nunchuck around $4, sorry I don't have a link. But its old technology already, its just never been used together before.

Exactly ;) Nintendo systems dont hold their value very well :P
[QUOTE="hazuki87"][QUOTE="Eponique"]A Wii package costs $170 to make and is sold to retailers for $190. And then sold at $250 in the US and $200 in Japan.

There ya go right there.
Its £180 in the UK which is like $360, disgusting.
I dont know a lot about exchange rates and such but if your figures are correct and the Wii is the equivalant of 360 US dollars then yeah, thats horrendous.

collectibles are about rarity and condition. the NES was popular and sold millions (not rare) and they were built well.
most probably still work. i wouldn't be comfortable saying that about the original psone's :)

No system does..only the games do..I can pick up any sega system for around $20 besides the master because it rare and I can pick up a PS1 for about the same price.....
I've gotten $250 worth out of it so far.SpruceCaboose
I've enjoyed it, and plan on buying more games... this fall looks great for the Wii, so yes I'd say money well spent.
The only people who will still be asking that question after Metroid comes out are the fanboys. But right now, it depends on your gaming tastes.Smoke_ManMuscle
Oh so just because somebody doesnt like Metroid is automatically a fanboy?

The Xbox and PS2 has held their values longer than the Gamecube :P

No if you don't think it's a game worht playing regardless of your tates then your a fanboy. If you don't like it thats ok as long as you admit it's a game thats worth playing to those who do like it.

Your first statement is poor. I don't like Zelda, so to me, its not worth playing. For other people, I am more than sure it is.
But you could use the same arguement for every game out there. I am sure somewhere, if you looked hard enough, you could find someone who liked Big Rigs.

Totaly, but see that's the problem with systemwars and people in general we can't understand why other people like what they do. If someone thinks big rigs is worht playing by all means let them play it.

yeah but how much does ps3 and 360 cost there?More, but you get better than an overclocked Gamecube. In terms of value the Wii is rock bottom.

And the N64 has held it value better than the PS1 or the Saturn...Also there is only a $40between the cost of the PS2, GC and XBox. Plus the Wii is the only next gen system that is 100% backwards compatible with the last gen system making there no reason for a person who owns a Wii to have a GC well the same can not be said for PS or M$ fans
Well, also you need to include packaging, shipping and handling, labor costs, profit for Nintendo, and profit for the retailers. All in all, $250 seems reasonable to me from a pure cost aspect.Graphics chip: $29.60
CPU: $13.00
DRAM: $7.80

As for value, I know I've gotten well over $250 worth of enjoyment out of my Wii.

Very true. That is why I spend most of my time debating illogical statements and defending whatever system is being "kicked", since its simple to just bash everything, and it seems that some people only like to bash. I try to stay on the positive side in most cases, as everything has value to someone, and everything has good and bad qualities alike.
