There is just pretty much zero chance this device will ever be remotely profitable for them. I'm sure they realize that already which is why they ignored it like a red headed step child at their E3 briefing.

Hardware sales are horrendous, software sales are so poor they're setting records.

While I think the Vita will recover (to an extent) I do think this exposes the stupidity of the "razor blade" business approach of selling hardware at a loss and focusing solely on software profits.

There are little profits from software with such poor sales, and in turn with such poor software sales it decreases the likelihood of development of hardware-selling software.

But I do think the Vita will recover but I also don't think it will sell anywhere near what the PSP sold

can you imagine if sony took the same approach with the ps3's start? It wouldnt be better than the 360 as it is now. Love how ppl are judging it only months out from worldwide (excl..japan) release.

Funny thread title and all but really Sony has a handheld that does current gen graphics and being able to port PS3 games makes it extremely worth while and Sony just needs to market it well alongside one of those (Black Ops maybe?)

People were saying similar things about 3ds even after the price cut and the sales were awesome already. Rushing to judgement is never good.

Hows it gonna recover with no japanese support and about 3-4 titles that half assed appeal to the NA market which doesn't even care about handhelds? Vita is deader than Who's The Boss.

PS3 was riding off PS2s success, had Bluray and literally had hundreds of games being developed on it even in its darkest days.

Vita has well... nothing.

At 3DS's worst it sold about 6 or 7 times more than Vita is currently selling WW and had a lot of big titles on the way as well as the pricedrop, which Sony has no interest in.

As much as I'd like to play devil's advocate and say that Vita has a shot, I gotta admit there is a bad economy pretty much world wide and putting out a portable gaming device (something many people believe is an outdated device already) and the poor economy, not having the same base of Sony fans as they did during PS2 era, and just not many games could spell out an early end which I personally hope doesn't happen.

To be fair, and I'm not trying to be negative but the 3DS sold 4.3 million units in it's worst period of launch through July. About 5 months out worldwide (3 months out in NA). The PS Vita, in the same time period, with about 5 months out worldwide (3 months NA) has sold 1.8 million units.

This is technically much worse. Also, Nintendo has system selling IPs that turned the 3DS around like 3D Land, Kart 7 and the inevitable Pokemon RPG followed by immense Japanese developer support.

The PS Vita doesn't have any system sellers on the horizon and some of it's biggest games this holiday season (for the time being) seem to be better on PS3.

I think that's generally the reason why people are more "doom and gloom" over the Vita than they were with the 3DS is because there is no clear cut Vita-only game that has mass market appeal to move units. At least not at the moment.

Sony is now more concerned with recovering cost/minimising loss than making profit with Vita. Discontinuing the operation straight away won't help them. They will let it run its course, and hopefully after the whole process the loss won't be as terrible as it currently is, then release the replacement.

I think Sony is pretty much done in the handheld market.

There's no way the Vita can sustain 4-6 year shelf life. It will die off long before then and Sony will cut their losses. The public won't buy the susccessor to a completely failed device. Consumer confidence has be shook and will never recover.

A port? That should be good for a week of mediocre sales before it's back below 6 k. Vita needs, WAY, WAY more.

I don't know, my brother doesn't even really play his PS Vita. The only game he seems to be talking about is Gravity Rush which he's just waiting for.
