We've seen it all too many times, where when a franchise becomes a mainstream cash cow, it's milked until it can't produce milk anymore. I'm a huge fan of the franchise, but really, it seems like it's one of the main reasons the company has major profits now. I mean are seriously going to see COD 16 in 2018 still consistently selling higher than its predecessor? I mean it has to "die" sometime right? What will replace it? How will it happen?

It will die down. Nothing stays on top forever just ask Sony. As for what will replace it as the in thing, if any of us knew, we would try to get in on it, and make our own milk.

As long as someone doesn't come out with a bigger dude-bro fad, then CoD will keep going indefinitely.

Wait, I know. When world peace takes finially happens. Eventually people will notice that the newer COD games (story wise) are just re-makes of the older versons. Unless ofcourse, COD goes.... Midevil:shock:

Call of Duty has been released yearly since 2005. I don't see a crash coming soon unless Activision pulls A Guitar Hero kind of fail.

Well, there is a viable reason to yearly sports games as there is a yearly crowned champion, MVP, roster moves, rookies, etc. I believe the audience for COD will be there but those playing it because it is the in thing will move to the new in thing, imo.

As long as it's a profitable brand. Once it starts to lose its steam they'll discard it if its not making them enough money.

Look at Madden, minor updates yearly have seen that game through nearly 15 years. I don't see Call of Duty being too different, there is always going to be some imaginary bad guy to kill in some desert/jungle/city.

I think it's peaked so it's only a matter of time before it starts to spiral downward. It will be a slow spiral but it will eventually die...

I think 3-4 years. MW3 will do as well as BO, and the next title or two will hold strong, but Activision's strategy won't hold long into the next generation I think. It will take a while, but it will start puttering out.

The funny thing is, CoD is just sooo popular now its almost like trying to stop chips being so popular(or fries in USA). It just won't happen as there will be a new generation of screamers ready to take their older brothers place when he gets bored, the only thing we can do is just move on which TC already says "im a huge fan" so clearly he knows its gotten crap but will continue to buy every release...

Maybe Activision will start using all that money to start overseas conflict so they have something to make a COD about. :P But yeah, they could theoretically keep their fiction war story from MW going forever. We just have to pray that someone else will come out with something even more "Brasome."

I've lost track of how many games GH has. Didn't they start making more than one a year?

It will either be Call of Duty: American Wasteland or Call of Duty: Project 8 that will kill the franchise. And then, Activision will make a half-assed attempt to revive it with a COD game that uses a gun controller that doesn't work, and no-one will care because they'll all have moved on. If I were Blizzard, I'd be looking for ways to un-merge with Activision before they become their crutch. Pretty soon, WoW, Diablo, and Starcraft will be the only cash cows under the Activision/Blizzard umbrella, meaning that Activision and Bobby Kottick are just going to be there for dead weight.

It will probably die or start to die in the next three years. Activision is going to find some way to kill it like what they did to the TH games and GH games. I wondetr why Activision won't stop making the same mistakes over and over again?

I think it is reasonable to suggest that COD sales will at least temporarily dip as the next generation of consoles come out. If you think about it a decent part of their audience is casual and they won't all be running out to immediately buy the next gaming consoles.

Yep I think by the time we see COD 10 or w/e that iteration happens to be called it will be slowing down. So at this rate that will be 2013 or 2014. I think MW3 as well as the one or two after that will indeed sell well MW3 will definitely break BO record, but eventually they will die.

If Respawn Ent wins their lawsuit they will block Activision from making any more Modern Warfare games. So if Respawn wins, they will make MW3 if they even choose too, and then it wont be out until 2013-14 at the earliest, if Activision wins the lawsuit MW3 will more than likely come out in 2012 and will be made by a half assed dev team hired to fill the 90% of Infinity Ward that left and are now working at Respawn Ent.

With all the major problems with the last 2 titles I can see the decline starting with this years release. MW2 and BlOP's left a pretty bad taste in a lot of gamers mouths. I don't think Sledge Hammer will do a decent job this year look how much Treyarch struggled, does anyone think a no name dev company will make any real improvements to this years next installment??? IW is long gone the most talented of the group jumpship because of all the crap that went on. Look for a major decline to start this year...
