When people hear this question, they may think, "oh, just wait for FF XIII" Can one game, even a FF Game, seriously sell the number of consoles PS3 needs to catch or surpass the 360? People ar estill gonna look at that price and until the PS3 is the same price as the 360, people are gonna look towards the 360 becasue of the price tag. So the question is this: How long do you think it will take for the PS3 to match or surpass the 360?

Well it depends. 360 is selling well but it doesn't look like they are breaking 20 million anytime soon. If you go with analysts PS3 is supposed to have roughly 10 millions PS3s sold by the end of 06. So if it takes an extra year for PS3 to surpass 360 it will probably happen in the extra year PS3 is around if sales stay consistent.
But hey what do I know, I didn't go to business school.

The only way for Sony to rise again would be to cut the price and to fund new very high quality exclusive games.
I wonder whether this makes sense from a biz perspective or if it's probably wiser and cheaper to leave the PS3 to it dark destiny and start planning for a better PS4 where those mistakes will be avoided from the very beginning....

If you want to know which console will make it to the 20 milion mark first, going by currant sales it'll be the Wii by the end of the year ....
I'f Sony can reclaim Japan from Nintendo I think it can later on in the life cycle. MS and Sony seem on equal footing around the world except japan, were Sony should beat MS.

Me too. If Blu-Ray becomes the standard new next-gen DVD format, only then will the sales increase enough to get past the 360. Trouble is, if Blu-Ray wins, it won't be for another 3-5 years. And by then, digital distribution will have trumped physical media anyway.
The key is Blu-Ray, I think. Imagine if Blu-Ray loses...oh man. Sony would look utterly stupid, more so than they do already.
by the end of the year we will know sony's fate. IF the PS3 has a reasonable price drop(atleast $50)at chrismas than maybe.... butwe will know all we need to when the chrismas numbers come in. if the numbers are too low than many of the dev will more than likely "jump ship"

Aahahahah Im LOLing IRL right now. Pretty hard actually. 256 megs of video RAM? It will be lucky to last until 2010. If the PS3 has such lasting power why can't it run Crysis a game from 2007?
