How long till 4K 3D TV's are affordable for the average person?

i have not used my tv for that crap in at least a year now.

a few movies were ok in 3d but i hated it for gaming.

what games did you try?

basically every game that came out with it for a a little while before i decided it was not very fun with it turned on.

I'm more interested in the 1080p consumer version of the Oculus Rift...superclocked

3-4 years for affordable 4k monitors. 5-6 for affordable 4k tvs.

The Oculus Rift is not the same as putting a small display of a certain resolution in front of your face. It's trick is the lens between your eyes and the display.

Agreed, 3D in gaming is awful. Certainly right now, and I can't see that changing in the near future.

Yeah. I had a go on a low res devkit and it did appear a bit blocky, I could definitely go for as many pixels as possible. 

But the immersion was definitely there, after a short while I felt like an idiot standing around with a VR headset on.

I'd stronglly disagree.  Motorstorm Apocolypse has some of the most epic 3d I've ever seen.  It really sold me on the technology. It becomes an absolute thrill-ride.

Granted, I have seen some games that had issues.  Doom seemed to have some technical glitch. 

When 3d is well implemented it becomes a visceral, immersive experience.
