It seems like things are just getting started. We haven't even had a GTA release yet. I doubt it will end so soon. Maybe 2020? Let me know your thoughts, SW.

Im really hoping Scorpio is a new console and MS and Sony start making Pro/Scorpio exclusive games.
This generation was such a small jump over last gen that both companies started working on upgrades 2yrs in.
Not to mention the extremely slow tablet CPUs they both use.
We should have 1080p as a standard this but devs have been forced to compromise their games and engines to mitigate the weak hardware.
I assume devs thought the jump would be bigger as well.
Im not saying to stop supporting XB1 and PS4, but they are holding back games and development.
@OhSnapitz:
A lot of it just has to do with having a decent PC. In a vacuum, the PS4 (and even the Xbone) are probably pretty great. But this is the first gen in which the PC is getting most of the games available on consoles, and in better form.
So if you're only buying exclusives on the PS4, it's been slim pickings for a long time. Only now is it starting to have a respectable exclusive library. I've had a PS4 since early 2014 and it's been packed up in a closet most of the time lol.

I bought a PS4 at launch and while the initial library was pretty lackluster.. I've been enjoying it since about 2015.. when Bloodborne came out.
@OhSnapitz:
Yeah I called it a Bloodborne box forever, that game was great! I'm currently enjoying the fvck out of Nioh too.
It really is a fine system on its own, definitely the best console to own as a primary imo.

Pretty much a standard on PS4, not so much on Xbone.
@ConanTheStoner: well, PC has been getting a lot of ports, but not many developers are really optimizing them for PC.
@SolidGame_basic:
If you're talking about older games being ported by Japanese pubs, sure, it's been hit or miss. Games coming out this gen that made their way to PC? I can only think of very few poor examples tbh. On the whole, these multiplats have been superior on PC by a vast majority. Like 99+% lol.
And console optimization "magic" isn't really a thing anymore. These boxes are pretty straight forward, pretty much just locked up PCs, not exotic hardware.
The console/PC paradigm just isn't what it used to be.

Not really true man, Dishonored 2 still isn't that great. Mafia III, Arkham Knight, Mortal Kombat X. To name a few. Forza Horizon 3.

Yeah, I'm not saying literally every game, just the vast majority. Like if I were to list every multiplat on PC that looks and runs better than its console counterpart... well I couldn't, there are too damn many lol.
And even the few games that do come out as a raw deal usually get fixed. Not exactly ideal, busted launches always suck, but still.
Not saying PC gaming is perfect.
But there's no denying it's the best box for the job with multiplats. It's not even close.

Played Dishonored 2 on my 970, other than adjusting a few settings, still playing that game at a stable 60 frames. Can't do that on either console.
I would imagine that applies to Mafia 3, I know it applies to Arkham Knight nowadays, I know it applies to Forza Horizon 3. Lets be real, yeah every now and then they release some shoddy ports, but a lot of optimization complaints are more a closet first world problem of PC gaming. You are still getting a better version of the game. The version that looks better, runs better, and is flexible to your needs. Because PC is a premium product, it's considered terrible when the game is only as good as the console versions. It's a difference in standards mate.
@jg4xchamp:
Yup. A "bad" PC port is usually a case of the game just not being too much better than the console version lol.
I think with the advent of middle cycle upgrades, the term console generations will become extinct. I see it as more of what PCs do. Every few years, you'll see an upgrade of the current console. But then again, they could do something like PS5 and xbox (whatever) and that would be all for not.
Xbox one and ps4 base are both machines good enough for 1080p tvs (even recent games like nioh have 720p 60fps and 1080p 30fps modes for the weaker old ps4 xD).
Xbox one s adds hdr which is nice and plays 4k hdr movies disks so it can be seen as a uhd disk player that runs gears 4 at 60fps haha xD
Ps4 pro is also getting several games patched to have 60fps or higher resolution options and even games without the patch will run at higher fps or simply stabilize games with locked fps.
In my opinion ps4 pro is becoming a very good 1080p 60fps machine :) with the option for more resolution for those who want it more than fps.
Id say for 4 or 5 years + we wont be seeing another console generation
@SolidGame_basic:
I think 2020 is a safe assumption. Thank the useless Scorpio and ps4 Pro for that.
@jg4xchamp: So true. I played unity with 50 to 60fps fps. And that game was the definition of disaster of a PC port. Can't get that performance on consoes.
But doesn't it make sense to call a PC port bad if it doesn't deliver better performance on machines twice as powerful as console? Yeah the standards are there but they are there for a reason.
The jump from PS3>PS4>Pro has been underwhelming, so I would be happy to stick to what we have for a while,
Visually games aren't improving all that much - noticeable but not mind blowing. It is performance that needs to be focused on. Having a system that can run games at 4k 60fps locked should be the goal, then increase detail when the hardware allows.
Crysis which is 10 years old wouldn't look out of place on Scorpio/Pro neither would Mass Effect at 1080p 60fps.

Depends on what rig you have though. If you have the best, then it will kill through anything. Otherwise there can be a myriad of issues. Since switching to a gaming rig, I have enjoyed it quite a bit, but I still play certain multiplats on console because the difference isn't that big. And in some cases, the console community is much bigger and better that I prefer to play on console.
ps4 pro and scorpio are perfect 1080p 60fps machines so leave it at that!
Its okay to have 1440p and 1880p native resolution (then upscaled to 4k) for people that dont mind playing at 30fps.
But make 1080p 60fps your priority this gen..
And make sure to release ps5 and xbox 2 only if 4k 60fps. Ill use my ps4 pro and scorpio on 1080p 60fps settings until they release consoles in 2022 ? at 4k 60fps :)
