Topic. I can't fathom why does this series still has fans.

Never really cared for the franchise in the first place. I was interested in Lost Worlds, but I lost that after watching Giantbomb's QL.
If all the flops between Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Free Riders didn't chase away the fanbase, nothing will.
Sonic has always sucked
You have got to give me the name of your dealer. I have got to try whatever it is you are on.
Sonic 1, 2, 3, and Sonic and Knuckles are classics, and are still playable. The Sonic Adventure games on the Dreamcast were good. Generations and Colors were also relaly good.
A few bad games doesn't equal a bad franchise.

No problem bruh. His name is Miyamoto
Was a good franchise, but it's ruined now. Sega should leave Sonic alone or reinvent him again like Nintendo did with Mario.

Completely different type of platformer. They really aren't comparable.
Mario is all about accuracy and precise jumping. Sonic is about speed.
I'll never stop caring, because of the endless amount of joy I've gotten from playing the classics over the past 22 years. With that said, I don't buy everything plastered with the logo, nor do I refrain from criticizing the hell out of bad entries. From about 2001 to 2010, all I did was bitch about how awful the new games were. Colors brought me back, so I know good Sonic games are still possible, and accordingly, I've learned to be less critical, and I don't expect a 100% copy and paste of the Genesis/CD gameplay. As long as it's fun to play, that's all that matters.
Sonic is also a very popular brand with children so I don't think the fanbase is ever going to plummet. Sonic Boom, which will be the 5th television series, will be airing on Cartoon Network next year, for example.
Lost World was a flop because many reviewers marked the game down for "awkward controls" (which feel just fine) and "being too difficult"?
Because Sonic is a unique and one of a kind series. No other game does what Sonic does and when it's done right (Sonic Rush and Sonic Generations) it's something superb. It's a racing/platformer hybrid that has levels that are jam packed with multiple pathways and it's up to you to master reflex gameplay and memory to find the best path and execute a run as perfectly as possible. It's uniquely satisfying which is one of the best complements I can give a game.
They need to keep trying with this series because nobody else is trying to make the same kind of game as them.
P.S. I feel they should stick to 2D though. The 3D sonics have mostly been quite terrible. Sonic Adventures, Sonic adventures 2, and Sonic 06 make me cringe something fierce.

i never really liked the 2D sonic games which is weird because i loved the character as a kid. i loved the show, comics and even had a stuffed sonic toy. I think I liked the Dreamcast one. i remember playing a bunch of it.

Yeah, I was a fan of the Dreamcast ones. Generations was prefect for me because it had 2D and 3D gameplay, so I felt at home with it despite not having played Sonic for a while.
Considering the word flop is only used these types of message boards, who knows. Just because you or a few people on a forum think a game sucks, doesn't mean everyone outside of the forum thinks the same. As long as the games are meeting the expectations (sells wise), then they will keep making them.
As a kid I always found Sonic a bit cooler than Mario, then that changed when I got older.
I dunno, the last sonic game wasn't bad. Apparently this SMG ripoff is utter dogshit however.

STH did not flop. You also have youre reasons and dates wrong.
Ever since 2006, every sonic game almost except a couple have had next to no production effort at all in its development since the first one brought in tons of sales. ST and Sega figured they could release trash and the Sonic base would it it up like idiots, and they did. Little did they know that the Sonic fans actually liked new games without the same reletition and quality more so than Mario fans, and so the Sonic fans started to move away until Generations all of a sudden was made with effort and an actual good production team but then all of a sudden because another crappy spin-off sold just as well ore more, don't know the exact numbers, they are doing the same thing again.
I been a hardcore Sonic fan for years but the writers are forgetting Sonic's fan base and trying to appeal to the newer generation. I know there are still great games to be made with Sonic, sadly if they would focus on making an HD 2d game instead of just 3d ones they could make a GREAT and rightful sequel to the Original Sonic series 1,2,3 (4) <.<
Sonic advance had to be the best comeback for Sonic I had ever seen, sadly Sega does not focus on 2d platforms anymore. I hope Sega starts realizing after the whole Mega man/Mighty No.9 hoopla where the real money is, The old school fans.
Also I enjoyed the 2.5D part of Generations allot.
Don't really know how bad the game is yet. Sure by system wars terms it was a flop. But some other sites rated the game very high like Eurogamer. I still might pick it up. The last really bad Sonic game IMO was the PS3 one.
There's quite a few "ps3" ones.

All of them are bad.
Kind of off-topic:
the new Sonic game has a really fantastic intro in a cheesy kind of way, it was exciting and promising. But as soon as the first level starts and you see that awful level design that is even hard on the eye the illusion of fun is instantly destroyed. Before you even start playing you already know this game is bad. That's how bad Lost World is. XD
But there's something about its art-style that is very reminiscent to Mario 3D world. But Sonic's stages are made of Tubes while Mario 3D world are Squares. It's like they shared the Engine or something.

Ok Sonic the Hedgehog... Such a bad game, when you died you had to rewatch all cutscenes. Sometimes it would take you 5 minutes after you died to get back into playing. Then the glitches, never played a game with so many.
How was lost world a flop?
Dude, I asked that question and so many SW'ers got on my ass and counted it as hype just because sheep talked about it on other threads. Heck, a user even used a URL to my blog as a sort of ownage, nevermind that I was just plain looking forward to the game, not giving a damn what SW would think.
I think after Sonic 3 his run was over. Sega should have pushed Shenmue more.
Yeah they really buried Shenmue and I really hate Sonic marks
I think people stopped caring after sonic adventure 2 battle for the GC
No one liked the GC Sonic Adventure games.
It's not a matter of flops. Sonic games are not hyped anymore, they are announced, Sega fans go yay and they buy it. That's literally it. Sure, you could argue the majority of Sonics old fanbase is on the Sony and Xbox platforms, but all Sonic fans that are left will just buy Lost World because it is a Sonic game (that is not an olympic game spin-off).
I mean people were excited when they said Sonic the Fighter was going to the PS2 before it was cancelled. They brought that terrible Bioware Sonic game. It's basically Sega's Mario at this point. The same 3 million cemented fans will continue to buy everything Sonic and of course, overrate them.

you have a wiiU or 3ds?
Flops don't matter to people just look at Killzone. Sure it scored well but why was the online dead after a few weeks? Halo 3 had 45k concurrent players a few days ago and Killzone was meant to be the "Halo killer" LMFAO
I really think that Sega needs to stop making them. They release a lot of and they are getting bad. Yeah they were doing a little bit better with Colors and Generations (I didn't play them but I know they both got good rating score) but since Sonic 4 episode 2 and now lost world it seems that the series needs to take a long break.
