How many gamers here tend to do several things at once when playing a game?

This is a strange one and maybe it's border line attention deficit like,

but how many gamers you know have to have something else running in the background or do something else while gamine like having to eat, be on the phone, look up on the Internet etc?

If its a new game and has no integrated custom sound track support I play the game with nothing else running so I can make out the dialouge and get immersed in it's atmosphere.

If there are games that I ready know the story line, played several times then I tend to just use my own tracks, or I also watch a movie or be on the phone with some friends when playing the game

Is it possible that next generation will be a generation of multi-taskers when it comes to work and play?

imagine the next generation of gamers who play more then one game at once?LOL

It depends on the game for me. I have 3 monitors so usually I'm watching a tvshow on one, playing a game on another, instantmessaging on my third, and sometimes I'll have my DS with me playing advanced wars.

Aside from Dwarf Fortress, no, not really, and even then I'm only posting on GS or surfing.

I usually do a few different things at once, and it is far from because I think of it as a good thing...

If I am left to do only one thing at a time, I begin to second guess, and over calculate far too much, So nomatter what I do, gaming reading, watching a movie, I nearly always Do another at the same time, altho one has the priority, so lets say Playing a game, Then I usually read a book, and listen to music at the same time (unless I play online vs people, then It is only music.

I have considered if it is a by product of the modern upbringing there seems to be alot of people with the same problem as me, too little to do at a time, leads to unrest, a single thing to focus on, causes overfocus.

I only do other things while I'm playing if I'm not fully immersed.

Whether I'm playing an online shooter or an RPG I like to get the most out of a game, therefore, while I'm gaming I'm not doing anything else.

You would have to have epic concentration to be able to watch a movie AND play a game at the exact same time.

Exactly. I have tried it and failed quite a few times. I end up forgetting the damn movie was even paused 3-4 hours later.

Maybe having 2 monitors for your PC would help? Or maybe you can concentrate if you have already seen the movie before and are just listening to the dialogue? :P

2 screens could help. My music partner does that when he makes beats. The problem is for one, I dont know how to hook that up. Another is that I like to watch it at the same time. I like to multitask haha. Its a huge pain though. Maybe get a screen right by my tv, side by side game/movie

Lol. That would be fun to play/watch at the same time (or even try to do it). Connecting 2 monitors is easy, its just that you have to make sure your graphics card has 2 connections. My 9800GX2 supports dual monitors :)

I only do multiple things while gaming when I'm playing handheld games and casual PC games. Every other game I focus on completely because I get immersed.

I'll listen to music sometimes playing online MP, but that's it. I don't get why people want to listen to music during SP experiences unless they've already played it a hundred times. The worst offense to me was my friend who was listening to his iPod on his first playthrough of Dragon Age. He had subs on. Still, I didn't see the point.

Well I've done "unappropriate"(spelling?) things to myself while playing games, last year I moved my monitor and my PS3 to the bathroom and played KZ2 online while taking a #2 for a good 3 hours.

Then I highly suggest you see a doctor, sir. I believe you may have a serious bowel obstruction.

My daughter tried to game with her DS while hogging the tv in the family room. I put an end to that quickly before it became a habit.

I just focus on the game. If I'm stuck, I'll go to my PC and look at a walkthrough.

Single player focus, first time: Focus on game Multiplayer, first couples times: Focus on game Then aside music, friends, booze and other forms of inspiration or all solid ways of spicing up the activity

I'm guilty of that. It's hard for me to keep focus on a game during cutscenes, especially when said scenes are boring. I usually just browse the internet while listening to the dialogue in the background.

I'm usually rocking a baby in a bassinet with one foot, while holding another in my arms, and fighting off my daughter with my elbows while she's trying to pull the triggers as I play. On top of that, I'm usually singing "There's a party in my tummy" or "Go Diego, go!" because I've been brainwashed by Nick Jr..

Depends on the game - for something like Resistance 2 or Halo 3 competitive online, I'm happy to be doing a lot of things at once, but when it comes to games like Heavy Rain, it has my complete attention.

I've played Games (Team fortress 2 for this example) in windowed on one side of my screen with Media Center on the other side watching TV and Editing &/or Converting software running in the back ground many of times. :P I've easily eat up 4-5 gigs of ram before I only have 6 Gigs so unfortunately I still have my limits.

The amazing thing is though TF2 still ran insanely smooth.

I need to concentrate at the task at hand or I just get stressed out.
