There are alot of manti-cores these days and alot of fanboys.

How many games you usually buy for a console or handheld for that matter?

Shrug.  How can I tell how many I will buy until I buy them?

I've bought like 6 for the DS and Wii or something?  But I haven't even bought the PS3 or 360 yet...

This question needs to be asked in 4 years.  Unless you mean for last gen?  Doesn't it depend on games and all sorts of factors?

In a consoles lifetime til it stops getting support? More than 20 that's for sure. But with $60 games it's gonna be a different story.

Highly variable.

I had about 6 for SNES. 10 for PS. 20 for PS2. Estimating about 8-12 that I will be getting for the Wii over the next year. And just for the sake of mentioning it... I have about 80 for PC (not that it counts or anything). As for DS I have 3 ATM and will be going and getting 2 oe 3 GBA games and another 2 or 3 DS games within the next couple weeks.

I am not one of those rich gamers. Up until recently I have played the hell out of every game that I owned.

I mostly rent from Gameznflix but always buy each year's Madden and NCAA Football.  I also tend to buy games like Oblivion, which include larger manuals and maps.

any gen really Majatt
I haven't been a diligent collector in my days, but let's see.

Probably around 6-10 on average.  I have probably purchased almost as many computer games a generation as for consoles.

And, I was too busy with college almost all of last gen. to buy many games.

Now that I have a full time job, I seem to be buying MANY more games.

Edit:  That's per console, not per generation.

I have 12 PS2 games and 4 PS3 games currently. For the N64 I had about 10 games but I can't really count them because I sold them. For the PC I have well over 20-30 games over a period of 10 years (PC games tend to individually occupy my time more than console games).

10/20 or more. Even tough I buy about 5 games for the full price, like Gears of War, Mass Effect, Halo etc etc. , all those special greath games you need to have at launch, the rest of them I wait till they get in 30 euro range. Games are getting way to damn expensive if you ask me.

At the end of the war I have over 21. Right now I have 7 Xbox 360 games, and 1 Wii game (unless you count Wii Sports). I`ll probably only buy about 5 Wii games and tons and tons of 360 games.

Definitely not more then 20. I can't really afford that. Even in 5 years time. I have other expenses too. 20 games is still 1200 euro's. And usually, I don't need that many. I know my own taste and only buy games that last.

8 games for the Nintendo DS

12 games for the Nintendo Gamecube

?? games for the PS2 (I traded in games so I don't know anymore)

The most interesting system is the Xbox 360 - I don't own one yet, but I'm stock piling games that I get good deals on for when I do - I already have GeoW, GRAW, and PGR3.

The best two systems for building a library on right now are the PS2 and the Xbox 360. On both systems there are a ton of awesome games that can be had for $20 brand new off Amazon or Ebay. There's so much game pressure on both systems that all the games drop down to around $20 after six to eight months.

I'll probably be picking up Phantasy Star Universe for the 360 pretty soon, making it my fourth game for a system I don't own.

Hmm well the only console I had for basically its lifetime and during its lifetime (I had older systems later) with money to spend I bought about 60+ games for PS2.  I have 4 for psp after about 5 months, but will maybe buy some more later. My bro has about 7 ds games in about a year and 7 wii games in like a month. I have 3 ps3 games in 2 months and will likely have maybe 10+ by the end of this year.

I've got around 40 PS1 games and 40 PS2 games.  So far I've got 8 games for my 360 and I've had it for 8 months and I've got 8 PC games, most of which I can't really play at the moment (I need a new Graphics card).

Many. I own around 30 games for my GameCube, PS2, and Xbox, around 25 for my DS, and 7 for my Wii.

Thing is, I very rarely buy at full price. At least half of all of those games I picked up for under $10, and others I got as a gift.

EB has a pretty good used game catalog but s/h to where I live is like shoving pine cones up your *cough*.

I don't buy used games - the used games market hurts publishers (which in turn hurts developers), so ultimately I like to find deals on new games. Sales on new games come out of the store's pocket, not the publishers pocket, so I find it to be a better way to buy games while still supporting the industry.

I also find it frustrating on the occasions where I get a game without a manual or in a generic case instead of the proper case with the box art. I don't seel my used games anymore, so I want these things to have all the little goodies when I buy them. I'm not so ridiculous as to want to pay $10 more for a "special edition" (especially since half of those don't fit in normal shelving) but if it's going to cost me $2 more to get a green case, new (unscratched) disc, and a manual, I'll pay the $2.

Amazon and ebay have some great deals on new games, in any case, way better than gs/eb, especially with Google checkout deals and the like. I mean, I'd never pay $60 for PSU, it's not that great of a game, I'm never going to take it online ($10 a month? get out) and I'll only get twenty hours or so out of it for the single player  - but hey, PSO was a favorite, and I'm at least going to give it a chance. It can't possibly be as bad as PSO Episode 3... I'm still repressing my memories of how terrible that game was.

I can honestly say I don't buy as many games now as I did when I was younger (and single). I can't post exact numbers but when things were better financialy I was able to buy an average of 4-5 per month. That was during the genesis and snes days. The newer consoles came out and it began to slow to about 2-3 a month (PS, Sat, N64). Now that I am married and have kids I can barely scrape enough free $$ to get 1 a month.

The average amount of total games per console I own is around 30. A small amount when you consider I have almost all the consoles but I did say average. If I tried to break it down by system I have more genesis games than I do snes but my minimum amount of games per console is 20. I know there are SO many more that I WANT but funds get tight as the kids get older and eat more.
