If you buy a video game console before buying an HDTV, you're doing it wrong. Very wrong.

I've been doing it very wrong for a while. Only recently I got a cheap HDTV for my PS3. But since 2007 I've been using an SDTV with my PS3. Games look a lot better on an HDTV, but still look great on an SD screen.
It's really no big deal, I still use an SDTV with my 360. As long as I can play video games, I'm good. I don't need to see every little detail on the screen.
Bough my 360 day one. Bough my HDTV in 06. Now its impossible for me to go back to that blurryness we were using last gen. I only have a 26" HDTV and no money for more... but do i really need more? Maybe a 32" but over that its pointless.silversix_Are you kidding? I would have a hard time with an hdtv less than 50". Over 50" is just...beautiful!
I currently play PS3 on an HDTV, but I'm too cheap to buy an HDMI cable so I am technically playing PS3 in standard definition using the cables that are supplied free with the console. The games look so darn good that I don't really have much interest in shelling out for an HDMI cable.
I've been playing PS3 since 2007 with no HDTV. I just bought one literally 3 hours ago (3DTV), though.
Thank you Best Buy christmas deals. Santa came early this year.

How far back you have to sit just to not go blind from the pretty colors? :p
Pretty much the same here. Which reminds me, I should go back and replay some older games now that I will be able to read thier ****ing text.HDTV earlier this year. So yeah I played the majority of this gen on a sdtv. It's nice being able to read text and understand menus and small icons.

It's cool to be able play an RPG and read the text. Thank goddess for voice acting. Otherwise, RPGs would be impossible to play on a 19" SDTV.

I never said anything about playing games in HD.

But the kicker is HD isnt necessary for anything? bout all telly channels still transmit in SD resolution.
HD is necessary for a 1080p/720p HD viewing experience ;).
I only use HD for games and local tv channels. The rest of my cable channels are in sd and I still have not bought or rented a bluray movie. DVD and netflix is all I need.I have an HD TV and a SD TV, but my consoles are hooked up to the SD tv. My grandma is always watching the HD TV so I cant play my games on it.
HDMI cables are as cheap as 99 cents if you know where to get them. Almost all of them work the same, so 99 cents can't hurt that much.I currently play PS3 on an HDTV, but I'm too cheap to buy an HDMI cable so I am technically playing PS3 in standard definition using the cables that are supplied free with the console. The games look so darn good that I don't really have much interest in shelling out for an HDMI cable.

I'm shocked that theres console peasants that haven't even moved up to HD yet. You guys know that Monitors are dirt cheap, There's no reason to still be in the dark ages of TV's anymore.
this. whats the point[QUOTE="mems_1224"][QUOTE="Tikeio"]

well i'm sure plenty of gamers started off this gen with a standard tv (like myself), as most of us used them last gen. once you go HD though, there's no going back.
I would go back to crt if I had the option to play on a crt or a hdtv. I cant play on hdtv's. I have to either play on a crt or a computer monitor. I use a 24 inch monitor to play my 360 on.I am currently gaming on an SDTV, but I'm hoping for an HDTV. Had two gorgeous HDTVs before I moved out of my dad's place.verbtex
Just get a monitor. Theres some really great deals on newegg right now. 200$ will get you somthing 23-27 inches. The samsung monitor I use is fantastic cheap and has great picture quality and black levels.

I'm pretty sure the big box in my living room right now is an HDTV, but if not, I'll take you up on your suggestion of getting a monitor. Thanks for the tip![QUOTE="vtoshkatur"][QUOTE="verbtex"]I am currently gaming on an SDTV, but I'm hoping for an HDTV. Had two gorgeous HDTVs before I moved out of my dad's place.verbtex

After gaming on a HDTV, I can't imagine playing on a standard tv. Really a day and night difference between the two.
How the hell did you afford an HDTV but not an HDMI cable?I currently play PS3 on an HDTV, but I'm too cheap to buy an HDMI cable so I am technically playing PS3 in standard definition using the cables that are supplied free with the console. I guess I'm doing it wrong then. I have a standard def tv, a PS3, and a Wii. What's so necessary about playing games in HD?
After playing a game on a hdtv and then going back to sdtv theres a big difference. One of the reasons I bought my hdtv was cause I experianced it and noticed how different it was.
Sony still has that 3DTV/monitor bundle going. It features the "Simulview" two-player multiplayer without split screen. (each player sees a different full screen image).
It comes with the 1080p 240hz 24-inch LED TV/monitor, Motorstorm Apocalypse, HDMI cable, and 3D glasses. Sets you right up for 3D gaming for $500. All you need is a PS3. Now that's it christmas, you can find them cheaper. I snatched one up for $300. Awesome TV. Fits anywhere.
I went from a tiny SDTV to 3D gaming. HUGE DIFFERENCE! :D I'll never go back.
[QUOTE="JakeMeltzer"]How the hell did you afford an HDTV but not an HDMI cable? And how can he say it looks really good using composite connections either he is sitting super far away or has really bad vision without correction.I currently play PS3 on an HDTV, but I'm too cheap to buy an HDMI cable so I am technically playing PS3 in standard definition using the cables that are supplied free with the console. There you go, dude. Spoil yourself.
i got my HDTV back in late 2008. its so much better in 1080p... i remember playing GTA IV on my sdtv, and the numbers on the cell phone were pretty much white little blobs and it was hard to imput cheat codes.
How could you not game in HD with a ps3 or 360 if given the chance?Ghost_702
The fact that HD naturally has input lag.
