Just a thought, since PC gamer say their games look alot nicer and better on a PC, how many PC gamers can run a game on high res, (My comp sure can't) It's kinda funny, My cousin has a copy of Overlord, and his comp is running it at about meduim resolution, so the visuals looks less sharp and less texture features, lower than the 360...Just curious, as I have been playing with my comp and graphics card for the past 4 years...I have not upgraded since then, (shocked?)

Which is why I am so easily impressed when I saw Gears for the first time on 360, also Mass effect and even Killzone 2, Halo 3 wowed me with the latest trailer....(not sure why People are so mad about it, it looks great!)

Depends on the game reallly. Plus you're not taking in account that some people like high FPS instead of high resolution.

Don't worry my games on the PC have looked better than the 360/PS3 since the 360's launch.

BTW: KZ2 looked nothing like the trailer. Still decent though, but not like the trailer.

What is your definition of High res? If its 1600x1200 then yes but if you go by some hermit's definition of high then hell no. Some people play at crazy high resolutions *drool*

I can which is why it doesn't make sense to have a 360 standing beside my wii and ps3. They'll keep me busy while I wait for them to arrive on my platform.

My definition of high resolution for a comp, (Even though I have never saw a Gamer's Top end line PC) If something that beats or even looks greator runs slightly better than a 360 verison or PS3 verison, (Crysis) in short it looks good....

I can for some. remember that pc options for maxing out is much greater than what console games have. most consoles games won't have the top AA and AF options that pc's have.

put it this way i play lost planet at 1680x1050 in dx10, maximum everything,8xaa,16xaf at 40-50fps. So it both runs bette but also looks significantly better than the 360 version. Not too mention this is on dx10 drivers that are in their infancy and also a bit of a shoddy port(but not too bad). Same with world in conflict, higher res,dx10, more aa and af, oblivion? again maximum everything 1680x1050, better looking mods,16xaa/16xaf45-60fps outdoors, 100+ indoors.

so yes my rig is significantly mroe powerful than the 360/ps3

My current computer would need a new Gfx card, PSU, and CPU over clock for it to run more modern games at high setting with good FPS. My computer does run Farcry a lot better than the Wii... looks a lot better too.

The E4400, P35-DS3R, and 2X1024MB DDR2-800 crucial memory came a few days ago... going to try a first time build... lets hope it works and I don't blow off an ass load of my parents money.

Do you think Crytek hs been demoing it on anything less than max? Theres plenty of hardware out there that can max out Crysis.

8800GTS 640 = ultra high settings, I'm gussing in 1920X1200 res... since thats the res the 8800GTX maxes Crysis on. I'm sure 8800GTS 320s and 640s will max the game. (I'm using a 17" display.)

Crossfire 1950XTX can emulate DX10, a single 1950XTX will max it DX9. Even a 7800GTX runs the game on high / ultra high / maxed DX9....

There is no 'max resolution'. Ps3 and 360 output games at 720p hd resolution(ps3 does some of the worse looking ones at 1080p, but remeber a hdtv that does 1080p is hugely expensive at the moment). This is 1280x720 pixels. I personall play at 1680x1050 pixels which looks amazing, and i reckon crysis will run pretty well on my 8800gtx from what ive seen and heard from the devs. ofcourse if you had 2xu;tras in sli you could probably push it 1900x1200 or even 2560x1600 which is beyond 1080p.

1280x1024 which is the native resolution for my LCD.

If a game doesn't have that (usually older games)I go for the highest setting the game allows.

Also I have Quality on the highest setting in my nVidia control panel. I use a little AA High Anisotropic, etc.

I'm talking about how high res on a computer, forget console now, but the question was how many PC gamers run their games at Max or High Resolution.....It seems alot can....Sadly my comp is still in the dark ages....

But is there anyone here who is not excited about Crysis other than it's graphics? Maybe gameplay, or multiplayer? It looks very photo-realistic, even fooled me with that house....

What I mean by Max is the most you can get out of a computer that is humanly possible. (Without crashing or freezing)

Max settings on common PC resolutions, EX. 1280*1024, 1600*1200, etc.

Crysis is the game.

A lot of us are looking forward to gameplay but its not the thing that is in common discussion. I plan to play the game as a sniper... thats what I like.

The emphasis is on PCGAMER here. If your a pc gamer then you have a high end rig. If your a Console gamer then in your case you woulen't have a high end rig. Its simple. If your a PCgamer and you have a **** rig maybe your no1 gaming machine is not a pc. In your case this is the case.

Yeah it is the cheapest way to go, and learn how to overclock yourself.

My first build last Year was a E6600, Asus P5W-DH Deluxe, ATI X1900 XT ( I flashed with the XTX bios, and it magically became a XTX. Same memory modules as the XTX. ) 2x250gb WD HDD's in RAID-0, 2gb XMS2-PC6400, X-Fi Extrememusic sound card. Then I upgraded the processor 3 months ago to a X6800, memory added 2 more of the same sticks, Windows Vista Ultimate, and recently my GPU to HD2900 XT. So yes I'm ready for some action.

Mine can run any current game on max settings on the highest resolution possible, just a shame I've only got a 19" TFT monitor :(

Built mine myself (1st time build) and saved about £3500 on what Dell or Alienware wanted for this spec so I'm happy.

Spec btw, E6700 Core 2 Duo Extreme (Quad core), GeForce 8800GTX 658MB, 4Gb 800MHz OCZ RAM, BFG nForce 680i mobo, 1x 500Gb HDD and so on.

Waiting to see what happens when DX10 games come out, I'm hoping this thing will play at least Crysis on max settings.

atm I am playing mostly at medium settings with my bit old card, but before crysis and boshock are relased I am going buy a new graphics card to max them out. Also , like the tc I don't really mind playing games low to medium resolution (except crysis, which I think is a crime to play at medium - low settings)
But why do you want to know all this ??

I mostly play DOD:S, but this card rips through it like butter. 1680x1050 8xMSAA/16xHQAF + HDR = 70-90fps, Fear with 4x is kinda crappy but thats because the drivers are still crappy for this game. Oblivion runs perfect with 6xCFAA+HDR, and all i need is another card and 2GB more mem for crysis/UT3 DX10.

covhunter:

If you have a E6700 thats a dual core, not a quad. And your videocard has 768MB of memory, sorry had to correct. ;)

My goal is 1280x1024 with 4 or 6X AA, 8X AF, max draw distance, max textures, max particle detail, full HDR and shadows. FPS between 50-60 is good enough for me. I always keep Vsync on with my refresh at 75hz. So I'm not going to be breaking any FPS records anytime soon.

Not me. I recently sold my desktop, and bought a laptop. I have a PS3 and I'm just going with it for gaming from now on...I've just grown tired of trying to keep up with standards, and then only to be behind again in a month, running into problems with games, ect.

yeah pretty much. the machine cost an absolute fortune though (i live in ireland.....rip off capital of the world). anyway i went a bit nuts with the specs because

A. i like to be able to buy a PC and not upgrade it for a while (i would have liked 4GB of ram but couldnt streatch the budget)

B. i wanted to treat myself

C. Im worth it :D

dot ask for a price though....i get ill mentioning the figure. specs below
