I had one PS2, and then I got the infamous disc read error. So I had to buy another one. Now I use the old playstation for DVDs (since they aren't blue bottom) and the new one for PS2 games.

How many did you go through?

I had one fatty, that broke - no DREs, it just wouldn't load any discs.  I have a slimline now, and its been good for 2 years.

1, got it at launch and said disc read error around the start of 2006. i just moved that white dial around till the game worked.

sony gave me a refurb (or fixed mine, i duno) ps2 a few years back for free (and payed for shiping) it was 3 years old at the time.. i dont know why people **** about that DRE... ms wouldent fix a 91 day old system until they extended the waranty...

If a generation is meant to last 5-7 (or 10 apperently) years, a company should buld a system to last that long, and if it dosent they shoudl fix it...

I just realized a big reason why i'll never buy an xbox.

Oh, and my LAUNCH ps1 (model 1001) still works fine to this day, i played it yesterday.. and my sisters that she bought 3 years after launch or so works fine too (though i do need to clean out the 1st controller port.... it's being a hoe.

I'm still on my first fatty. Though I did buy the new slim one from a friend two years ago. Gave the fatty to my sister and kept the slim. Both are running very well.

Launch PS2 and still works fine but i did have the Disk Read Error but I took the PS2 apart and gave it a cleaning and now it works fine.

I'm on my second ps2 , but not because my first one broke. I still have my launch fat PS2 that works perfectly , but I bought a silver PStwo because I liked the way it looked over my fat PS2.

bought mine used in May 2003, and I never had a problem with it. It's gone now, since I upgraded to its successor in December 06, but I'll never forget that wonderful machine.

I also drive a honda.. so i must hate everything automobile represents.

Oh, and my subs are alpine type-r's.. (kevlar reenforced) so... i must hate every thing car audio represents

1 but it was modded so it could play burned games and since i didnt have a multi system tv i wnt and got another one... then a multi system tv :)

had a launch unit that had beer spilled in it. had it fixed and it lasted about 5 years. had a slim ps2 for about 2 years and it still works (but i sold it). ps's have always been reliable, and so far, the ps3 seems to continue this trend.

none have broke yet, i cant play any blue bottom cd ps2 games unless i smudge the disc with toothpaste to make it read

1, and it was used, to boot. i got a DRE once, but i fixed it. (yes, DREs ARE fixable.)

I went through 5, my friend 6. We both got the "If you put a CD (blue bottom disk) in it the diode dies and you have to go buy another" error.

One PS2, although I got the infamous "Dirty Disc" Xbox message on my first Xbox.(I've owned 3 Xbox's) The original Xbox's were just as bad, but due to lower sales, it wasn't noted as much. Sucks for Sony to be #1. #1 target for fanboys.

I've only had one. It's had its share of disk reading errors, and it used to take a while to load the games that did work, but I fixed that back in October after I bought a lens cleaner.

This thread has been done many times for PS2, yet, You never see one complaining about how many Xbox's people went through...That first batch was bad, and the 360 would be another one to check out.

The PS2 is 7 years old by the way.

None I am still on my launch PS3. I had a alil problem along time ago with reading those blue backed disc. I kept getting a disc read error. I just opened it up,dropped a couple magnets on the drive and have not had a problem since.

2. My first one my uncle bought for me. He isn't a smart shopper and bought it at pawn shop. It only played CD but not DVD games. I bought the second one and haven't looked back except occasionally I pop it open to dust it and clean the lens manually for maintenance.
