How many were you able to get the RTX 5090 last week? 50 series not really worth it?

So, I woke up early and kept refreshing the page waiting for the RTX 5090 to drop. It finally did and I was able to add to cart on the Best Buy site. I thought I will get a 5090 little did I know it puts you in a que and it kept me waiting and it then kicked me out forcing me to log back in and by that time it was gone which is not surprising. I found the entire episode kind of stupid, why am I waking up early losing sleep just to get a card that costs $2000 and not getting anything in the end. It’s not like it’s Black Friday and I am saving money. I find the concept of sitting on my a** waiting for a card to drop ridiculous and a total waste of time. I shouldn’t have to scramble this much especially considering the fact that we are not in the middle of a mining boom. What happened to the good old days of selecting the card you want and checking it and always being in stock. I think might as well wait to get a RTX 5080 (at least when the 24GB) version drops. It will be a descent upgrade from my last NVIDIA GPU the RTX 3090 or get a 4090 if I could find one.

So, how many were you able to get one? Is the 5000 series really worth it? I was hoping to keep the streak of buying every other generation over the past 20 years going every since the GeForce 7600 GT going.

Maybe time to switch back to AMD after 7+ years. Hopefully they will have 9070 series in stock.

And from what Hardware Unboxed showed at CES with FSR 4 AMD might have caught up with NVIDIA with upscaling.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xt_opWoL89w&pp=ygUYSGFyZHdhcmUgdW5ib3hlZCBjZXMgQU1E

What do you guys think the 5000 series worth it or should I break my 20 year cycle of upgrading every other generation of GPU purchases and get a 40 series like the 4090?

I didn't try, it doesn't seem worth it to me. If someone did want it, maybe it would be better to wait because power connectors are melting.

I won't be upgrading anyway. I have a 6900XT so that's working away happy out at the moment. Won't be getting an RX 9000 series either by the looks of things.

The 50 series itself is not an impressive upgrade from the 40 series from a gaming standpoint. It's exclusive feature, multi frame gen, is nice. But not a critical feature and certainly not worth the asking price. As an upgrade from the 40 series....well basically it's not. It's more a side grade. The 5080 in particular is very poor.

Anywho I suspect the 5090 especially is going to be scalped for a while. For people who have back channels into China, they will be able to sell those for 8-10 K a piece easy. It's a pretty insane amount of money for a gaming GPU. But for prosumer or compute/AI workloads, it's a downright bargain compared to Nvidias B2B offerings.

Where Nvidia did bring the niceness though, from what I have seen anyway, is the DLSS upgrades. And those (except MFG) work on all RTX cards. Looks like a nice win for image quality. Some potentially cool tech too around texture compression will be worth keeping an eye on (and that works on all GPUs as I understand it: not just Nvidia. Cheers Nvidia. More of that please).

I didnt even try. I'm usually on the frontlines trying to get in on the newest GPU. This generation just doesnt seem worth it coming from the 4090 given it still supports AI features and frame gen (which I barely use)

I may jump onboard if games come out that the 4090 struggles with, but I cant see that happening.

Not worth it for price/performance. May have been viable had my 3080 held on, but the prices are stupid.

Rebirth is a brilliant showcase that a UE 4 game can run and look amazing and at the same time it highlights that a lot of graphical prowess is just being thrown at gimmicks (ray tracing first and foremost)

I always forget it actually runs on UE4. Honestly, performance-wise and with VRR my experience has been really solid.

It was a paper launch anyway. The only way some were able to get these cards were to get them in a pre-built

It was always a dumb meme.

Especially since Yahtzee used it to mock a certain group of PC gamers, and they started appropriating it unironically.

@Maroxad: It's a great meme though, because everyone can use it against them just like I did, and do on a semi-regular basis 🤣

$2000 US to buy a graphics card to play PUBG with. Look how shiny that grass is bruh 🤣🤣🤣

I tried just to see how bad the que is even tho I have no plan to buy a gpu right now, it was laughable. Was on the best buy checkout then it kicked me out 😆. My 7900 XTX will last me for years to come. Maybe take a look at UDNA or RTX 7000

I was considering purchasing the RTX 5070Ti before the launch of 5090/5080. Given the fact this launch is a major disappointment, this is really telling me the 5070Ti launch is going to be a paper launch, and not only that, the reviews on the 5080 were a major disappointment from Tech YouTubers, the 5070Ti is going to flop due to poor units per shipment. I'm just gonna keep my 4070 FE until the 6000 series arrives.

Even on the AMD side of things, I really hope they have a great launch on RX 9070 XT despite they are no longer competing in the higher class tier, at least the mid-range players will get something good out of this I hope.

I don't even know why that meme became a thing at all. This whole "master race" was always BS.

I've got a 4070Ti Super that seems to be fine enough for the moment. I'd be far more interested in a 5070Ti. I'm the 16GB of VRAM club now.

2000 bucks. Are you insane? Just use your 3090, it's still a great card. Get a 4090 whenever the price is acceptable.

Don't buy at best buy, it's just a waste of time. You are competing against hundreds of bots who click instantly. Just wait for 6 months, when the craze will go down. Also back-order from more obscure niche retailers. I got my 4090 on launch when I backordered at my local computer shop, had to wait 4 weeks but got it at msrp. Also, just don't buy it. Too expensive. Wait for AMD flagship that will arrive in the summer.

I heard it's impossible to get 5090 rtn, since Nvidia sent like 5000 units for the whole Noth Amerika retail. Most of the production batch was sold to the AI farms. We retailers/ gamers will not see a single unit for the next 6 months at least. Getting a 5090 at Msrp is like winning a lottery rtn.

Pretty sure most of the chips that Nvidia produces go straight to the Chinese market.

Western countries get pittance.
