I think with the specs it supposedly has, and the way MS prices things (especially with their surface books), I think this can't be less than $1000. Which I don't get because it's supposed to compete with PS4, but the PRO will be at least $350 by then. That's my two cents anyway. What are you thinking, SW? Cheaper? More expensive?

Both NEO and RX-480 uses Polaris 10 based GPU with 36 CU.

NEO = Polaris 10 with 36 CU and clock speed around 911 Mhz which yields 4.2 TFLOPS

RX-480 = Polaris 10 with 36 CU and up to 1266Mhz clock speed which yields 5.83 TFLOPS. The worst working yield Polaris 10 from Global Foundry is RX-470 which includes 32 CU and up to 1200 Mhz clock speed which yields 4.92 TFLOPS

Scorpio will be launched sometime in 2017 with a 6 TFLOPS GPU which most likely be based from refreshed/refine version of Polaris 10 GPU.

Using past history e.g. R9-390 is refreshed/refine version of "Hawaii Pro" based R9-290. R9-390 (5.1 TFOPS) is faster than R9-290 (4.85 TFLOPS). The price for R9-390 is similar to R9-290.

Scorpio's APU chip size is similar to XBO's 363 mm^2 chip. Polaris 10's chip size is around 232 mm^2 hence 130 mm^2 allocated for CPU, North bridge and South bridge which is enough for full size 8 core FX ZEN (reduce to laptop clock speeds).

For the extra 4 GB of memory for 384 bit memory bus, there's about $30 difference between 4 GB GDDR5 and 8 GDDR5 at the retail level.

My best guess for Scorpio's price would be around $399 to $499 USD.

You guys make absolutely no sense.

Why on Earth would the Scorpio be priced at $500+ in late 2017? There is nothing about the hardware that justifies a $500 price tag, absolutely nothing.

- 6 Tflops GPU will be a $199.99 card in late 2017,

- 12GB's of ram in late 2017 will be cheaper than what 8GB's of ram cost Sony in 2013

- UHD Blu-ray player will be even cheaper.

Then you add the fact that Sony will have a full year head start with the Pro with a possible $50 price drop come late 2017. Microsoft cannot price the Scorpio $100 - $150 more expensive than the Pro if they want to be compeitive. At most the Scorpio has to be no more than $50 more expensive than the Pro.

Radeon RX 4XX with >256 bit bus is in RX 49x class GPU SKU.

Polaris 10 with 384 bit bus doesn't exist is the current PC's RX 4XX SKU lines.

Microsoft's statement on Scorpio's 4K are just a repeat from AMD's SKU structure for RX 4XX.

$499, its probably an amd 470 type gpu which isnt expensive and will be cheaper by then. They want to win back gamers and push their ecosystem so I cant see them going higher than 499

It would be a 480 not 470 and a beefed up 480. The 480 clocks 5.5Tflops.

With proper cooling, 480 with 1266Mhz clock speed has 5.83 TFLOPS.

@Fairmonkey: well. Microsoft technically can sell at a loss. Microsoft earnings in hardware is impossible to find the profit of Xbox or revenue. They only disclose services of Xbox.

Sony is forced do disclose their PS4 sales same with Apple with iPhone

A 1000 ? keep thinking that to feel better

Most likely 500 at most. Considering consumers can buy a 6tf GPU for $220-230 and by this time next year will be even cheaper 500 seems quite logical

well im going to make a few assumptions:

1) the console will still be built mostly of plastic.

2) 1TB HDD as standard (maybe a 2TB model also).

3) it will be using the standard X1 controller...no elite as standard.

so 500 at most (for the 1TB model).

scorpio is not a beast. if it was released right now it would be pretty good. but not earth shattering. 12 months from now...solid but not spectacular. they should be able to sell it and, at least, break even at 500 at launch. its an SOC with a 6TF GPU and an upgraded CPU and 12GB of (confirmed?) GDDR5 memory. woopdie do.

the only reason i would see it going over 500 is if they do something like putting in a 512GB SSD as standard.....now that would raise the price a good bit in fairness. if they do that, make the entire case out of some high end metal and pack in an elite controller as standard then you could be approaching the 1000 mark (which could make for an interesting limited collectors edition maybe).

Since it is launching in late 2017, and the tech will have time to decrease in price, I'll say between $399-$499. I can not see them pricing it higher than that if they want to compete with a $399 or cheaper PS4 Pro. I expect the Pro to be sold at $349 with 2 games bundled with the console next Fall-Winter to take away sales and hype from the Scorpio. MS needs this to be priced competitively if they want it to sell to more than just the core XBox fanbase.

400 dollars not going to happen. Its a 4k native console. Sony can price the PRO its only 1080p machine with 4K upscale.

Hahahaa........ The PS4 can do 4k in the same way the xbox one can do 1080p.

Sony was just smarter than MS and included hardware support for the process, but a 36CU Polaris GPU has no problem running 4k,it just depend on what settings and the frames you want.

Is not desirable to run low settings at 4k i am sure running higher settings and using checkerboard rendering would give better results.

Microsoft has the opportunity here to destroy the PS4 in terms of value by offering a more powerful system at a competitive price and I think it would be a smart business move to take advantage of that. They can afford the short term loss and they would eventually be able to make up the loss in the long term with the content and services that they could now sell to a larger userbase.

Yeah because the xbox 360 and xbox destroyed the wii and PS2..lol

The core 360 was just $50 more than a wii, with graphics 1 full generation apart 1 year before the wii was even out.

The xbox could not hold a candle to the PS2 sales wise, power will not sell consoles alone.

I think after seeing Sony's meeting, MS will go in for the KO with a 450$ price.

Yeah after the sony september 2016 meeting MS will decide to price Scorpio which come 14 or more months latter at $450 just based on that..lol

By the time the Scorpio lands components on the PS4 Pro would be even cheaper,so sony dropping to $350 or even $299 would be devastating for MS,that is what a time advantage will do,MS will have more problems cutting prices than sony because is a new system vs one that has being running 1 year longer.

I ma not always right dude, but time reduces cost, manufacturing prices drop,Scorpio will pass for the same 1 year after launch it would be cheaper to make.

In fact if sales trend keep been like they have,we may see MS with a $400 scorpio vs a $400 Pro after just a few months, because if Scorpio doesn't beat the PS4 pro by a big margin sony will not drop the price,it happen already MS had to discount the xbox one to the point where they offer it for $50 less than the PS4 with 2 free games, and it wasn't until that happen that we saw a response from sony.

So i predict $500,if they fail to sell of the pro outsell it i see MS dropping the price quick and making bundles with freebies all around kind of like the Titanfall Bundle which was sold for $449 with the game.

Scorpio = $499 if;

  • It get 12GBs of GDDR5 memory.
  • Uses a "Zen Lite" CPU cores instead of Jaguar.
  • 2TB Hard Drive as Standard

Scorpio = $399 if;

  • It gets 8GBs of GDDR5 memory.
  • Uses the same old Jaguar CPU cores

If the APU on the Scorpio is similar enough to the PS Pro's APU, then Microsoft might take advantage of the economics of scale from manufacturing of the PS Pro.

My 2 cents: $499.99 at launch and $449.99 after 4-6 months afterwards.$399.99 After the first year.I'm probably wrong, time will tell.
