Since I can get Bravely Second earlier than expected (getting it in 2 days) I've decided to replay Bravely Default on New Game+ just so I can get all the original games story quickly.

Normally I find JRPGs extremely hard to replay though due to them being so story driven but I find other games like Resident Evil or Zelda extremely easy to replay.

Do you replay games often and does it matter on what the genre is?

It has been a long time since I've replayed a game that wasn't paying out something new. The closest recent game would be Demons Soul's ++ and that was right after I finished it both times. Other that, I would guess Super Mario World, and a bit of Super Mario RPG on my phone about a year ago.

FSX? All the time.

Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 4? Every damn day. Reset outposts. Recapture them. Rinse. Repeat.

The Bioshock games? Crysis series? Annually.

Throughout high school and college I would replay games all the time! Especially Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Mario Kart, Paper Mario, and Smash.

Nowadays, I don't replay games much. I'm trying to make some of those games a little more fresh. I've also accumulated a bit of a backlog I want to try and get through.

I'm also not spending as much time in some games- like Fallout

Hardly ever for me. Unless its a remake, i usually wont go back much. Im too addicted to playing something new. rather it be an old new game or a modern new game.

Depends on how much I like the game.

Like, I just replayed A Link Between Worlds three or four days back (played it compulsively and finished it in like a day, my second playthrough), and I'm already thinking of giving it another go on Hero mode.

When my backlog isn't too big, I like to go back and play games often if I really enjoyed them.

Recently no, backlog is crazy right now. On some cases when the next sequel is coming i'll run through the previous games on my son ps account. I'll probably play through the Uncharted games since UC4 is right around the corner.

Depends on how much I like/liked the game. For example my modded Wii has the entire NES library and some of the games in it I play a lot are Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr, Joust and Q*bert, I´ve played like 20 times MOH Underground ( PS1 ) and I can mention many games in different systems as examples.

not often, as there are always too many new games to play. I did come back to Max Payne 3 before I picked up PS4 earlier last year on 360 and played xcom again. On PC I like to come back and play some of my indie titles such as Jamestown, Hammerwatch, FTL, on occasion.

Depends.

Some games I've played dozen(s) of times like the MGS games, Chaos Theory, Thief 1 and 2, Ninja Gaiden Black, Resident Evil 4, Yoshis Island, Symphony of the Night, Super Metroid, Link to the Past, Contra, Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 (NES), etc..

Some games probably have over a hundred plays from me like SMB3, Mike Tysons Punch Out, SMW, and maybe a couple of more.

It really comes down to a combo of game length and just how well the mechanics are executed for multiple plays. It's pretty much a guarantee that I'll replay any game that I truly liked at least once. After that, it has to be something that struck a perfect balance for me to keep coming back.

@naughtyottsel: simple, because i loved it. I have been interested in some elements of victorian london for years. Grew up fascinated by our english legend of king arthur and the knights of the round table.

One of my fave movies is "the prestige" which is set in london at the same time period and features nikola tesla, who was also in the game.

I love the tv show "penny dreadful" which again had similarities, being victorian london with supernaturwl twists.

So order 1886, well it could have been written just for me. It was a big reason i got a ps4 so early. Its the best new ip so far this gen imo and i did enjoy the gameplay. I would be very happy to hear news of a sequel.

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn that's high praise, never tried it myself and from the footage I saw I don't plan to change that.

Glad it has a niche though

Rarely, used to be more common when I was younger playing GameCube/SNES games.

I think the only series I always replay at least once is fire emblem, so I can bump up the difficulty (or take a different path like FE 7 and 8) and the RNG always makes it interesting. I always try to beat them on the hardest difficulty, though I failed on lunatic+ in Awakening.

It depends on the time commitment and replayability. For instance FNV had so much replay value that I beat it 3 times despite it being a rather large time commitment, while FO3&4 have virtually zero replayability. Also indie rogue-like games like Hand of Fate have alot of replay value.

If it's single player, not to often. Usually will beat it and years later will play through it again. But, if it's a really long game, I'm even less likely to replay it.

If it's a co-op game, all the time. Co-op of course. And if the campaign has match making mode, all the time. Especially if it has a scoring mode.

Hardly ever.

I can see the appeal in replaying classics, or shorter games. But longer, more drawn out RPG's or open world games I can't spend the time to replay more than once. If I've put 30 or 50 or 100+ hours to 100% a game and all it's quests, the odds of me going back and starting from zero are practically nill - even if the game was great. Sometimes if there are alternate story paths I will want to mess around right away and do a different story, but that's about it.

Yes, all the time. I replayed Spec Ops, MGSV, and Uncharted 2 recently, and it was great fun.

I tend to stick with shorter length games when I replay them. It's very rare for me to play a 30+ hour game again.

Very rarely, only when I really enjoyed the game. Only games I ever replayed are the Ace Attorney games (except Investigations and Dual Destinies), Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, and Devil Survivor Overclocked. Might replay Persona 4 Golden though. Might.

This gen:

  • Metro Redux, on top of playing 2033 multiple times on Xbox 360 ast gen, and Last Light on the PS3, I got Metro Redux for the Xbox One and it was among some of the first games I played on my Xbox One. I recently went back to replay 2033 Redux, and want to play Last Light again.
  • Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, the 2013 Tomb Raider was a great game when I played it last gen, and I looked forward to its upcoming sequel on Xbox One. It was without question a must have for when I got my Xbox One. One of the first games on the console I played as well, I went back and replayed it a couple months before Rise of the Tomb Raider to get pumped up. Great game.
  • Alien Isolation, the very first game I played on my Xbox One, I loved it, as a big Alien(s) fan it did the series justice. I went back and replayed it around Halloween, searched for more collectibles. Still want to go back and play more of it, get all collectibles, do DLC, and play the hardest playthrough. Have it installed and pinned on standby.
  • Zombie Army Trilogy, went back and replayed this recently. Such an undervalued game all around.
  • Dying Light, basically the release of The Following DLC got me back here, it was a bit overrated or oversold expansion, but Dying Light is an excellent game and worth revisiting for playing Dying Light by itself. Still, Dead Island was a much better series, I'd love if Techland worked with Deep Silver to produce a next gen collection for that.

Anyhow, that's about it for now. I've got tons of backlist so it makes it kind of hard to want to step backwards except for the most loved games. I also want to replay The Evil Within for DLC, and Sunset Overdrive just because it was fucking awesome. Also have Destiny still installed as the gameplay is addictive... which is also why I stay away from it.

Xbox One BC has caused me to go back and dabble in old games, like Toy Soldiers and Toy Soldiers Cold War, Gears of War games, Doom and Doom II, but I'll probably spend more time on games I haven't played. Started Gears of War Judgement other night, loving it. Also want to jump on other games I missed like South Park Stick of Truth and Call of Juarez Gunslinger. Though I'd jump on opportunity to replay RDR or Catherine if they ever gave it to me.

I like to replay RPGs like Witcher, Dragon Age and Mass Effect. Replayed Witcher 2 like 5 times, Mass Effect 2 three times. I also replayed action-adventure games like Assassin's Creed II-B (replayed AC2 3 or 4 times & Brotherhood 3 times) or Prince of Persia 1-3.
