For being the console that had Splatoon, Bayonetta 2, and Mario Maker. (atleast splatoon 1 and mario maker 1)
A cult console that will soar in value when all is said and done. I can only imagine what developers.do with it underground. It will be the last Nintendo console that plays GC and Wii games, natively, along with potentially tons of other consoles. Get it while you can.
I don't think it'll shake its image as one of Nintendo's worst consoles, but I'm sure it'll fetch a high price in the future if some of its games are never ported to future systems.

Only will soar in value if the NX doesn't offer backwards compatible with Wii U games.
Lastly, it doesn't play GC games natively in terms of physical disks which is more important than the few digital GC titles available.
@emgesp:
No, native GC and Wii. USB ports. External memory. A second screen. Long after the fact it will see support. The dual screen can be used well. It will become people ultimate hub for older games. The price will rise.

Again, the Wii U doesn't offer true native GC support. There is just a handful of GC games available digitally. You can't play your physical gamecube library on the Wii U. Also, there is no evidence that the NX won't have Wii U BC.
I'm guessing overall by the gaming community it will be remembered in the same way the N64 and GC have be remembered with a bit more negativity thrown in the mix
For me, I'll remember it as a great system that gave me a good library of games, and one that got more of a bad rap than I feel it deserved, but whatevs.
I don't think anyone other than diehard Nintendo fans will remember it.
It will be remembered as an epic flop.
To me, it'll be remembered as the Nintendo console that I should have skipped. To the majority, it'll be recognized as a flop, well that is if they remember it.

And ohh boy, the GameCube's reception is probably one of the worst cases of flip-flopping I have ever seen. As much as I love the system myself, even Sean Malstrom questions where the hell the love for it came from.

Sorry, but you are wrong about that. The Wii U is capable of playing all Gamecube games natively, you just have to unlock it with a simple softmod. It's true that the Wii U cannot read the physical Gamecube discs, but you can easily rip all of your Gamecube discs to iso files and then play them all natively on the Wii U, and since it is native and not emulation, they all play perfectly.
I completely agree with Heirren that the Wii U will be a cult classic console and will soar in value. That's why I plan to buy a second Wii U before they stop production to have as a backup in case my original Wii U ever breaks.
The Wii U has a library of very fun exclusives that you cannot get anywhere else as well as the ability to play all Wii games and all Gamecube games natively, plus it can also play many of the best games from many other consoles via the Virtual Console. There is no other console and there might never be another console that has the ability to play games from as many different consoles as the Wii U does and that is an incredible value.
Personally, the Wii U is going to go down as one of my top 5 favorite consoles of all time. I absolutely love it.

I specifically stated natively in terms of physical discs. I don't count it having true BC unless its a feature that comes standard out of the box.
That's a matter of opinion.
Numbers don't lie.
Number of games on the Gamecube and Wii U that got a Metacritic score in the 90's
Wii U = 7
Gamecube = 25
Number of games with a Metacritic score in the 80's.
Wii U = 49
Gamecube = 94
Yet people have the audacity to call the Wii U a Gamecube 2.................
Like I said, it's opinion and point of view. Gamecube was really underrated and looked over when it was out and it had some gems on it. Wii U is the same in the aspect. I'm not saying it's better than gamecube, i'm just saying it reminds me of it :)

Yeah, but you can't say the Wii U has as large and diverse lineup of games as the Gamecube.

It does not, yet it's still not done either.

2016 is Swansong for Wii U, don't expect much support in 2017.

That's an unknown and speculation at this point.

You know why they call the Wii U a GameCube 2? Because both consoles are (for Wii U)/were (for GameCube) DESPISED for their time, despite the good games it had, no matter how many numbers you're going to throw.

I'm just making a point that the Gamecube is still superior overall in terms of its library of games. I don't even think that is an opinion at this point and even if it is then the vast majority would agree with me. I'm sure some will prefer the Wii U over the Gamecube, but that's a small group of people.
I think it will be remember as Iwata's great last gift to Nintendo console, he made some mistakes in the early days of Wii U, but the man tried is best as he could for Wii U and that he will be remember he gave us the Wii U.
Gamecube 2.
Come on, that's an insult to the Gamecube.
I'm still playing my Gamecube to this day.
Ever since the Wii U was announced I thought it looked like a sort of Dreamcast 2. You know, a console that drummed up a small amount of hype pre-launch, but was eventually beat out by PlayStation. It would eventually leave the race early because of it. Regardless it still has tons of niche titles that people are going to go gaga over in 20 years. (Not to forget the second screen!)
That's how I think it will be remembered, like another Dreamcast or Saturn.
To some a classic console with games that no self respecting gamer can deny. To the unwashed subscription paying, Division playing masses its another failed Nintendo experiment.
It will be remembered by me as that console with a few gems and with a weird huge ass controller with a screen on it that's mostly useless. It will be remembered more fondly by me than the Wii and will be remembered as a small light in a very dark generation of gaming consoles.
People are downplaying the wiiu in comparison to the Gamecube. Gamecube had Mario Sunshine. Yes, the second best 3D Mario game, but contrast that with the wiiu having nsmbu, donkey Kong tropical freeze, super Mario maker, and 3D World.
Then there's the addition of the eshop/VC. Lots nes, DS, GBA, and a few Wii games. There's also n64, but I have a hard time recommending them because there's an odd amount of lag added. Not exactly sure why.
Both consoles have their share of sports titles. Wiiu adds Nintendo Land and Wii Sports. Looking exists on both consoles. GC had Windwaker and Twilight Princess--wiiu has both those plus Zelda U.
Then there's bayonetta 1&2, Hyrule Warriors, Captain Toad, and the infinitely superior Mario Kart 8, vs Double Dash. Xenoblade and SmashBros....people sell Nintendo short with what they offer on the wiiu.
How will it be remembered to you? And what do you think the general perception be about it in years to come? Will it be percieved better like Wind waker is now, or just seen as a failure?
Boring as ****? Probably no.
Seriously, I can't wait for it to be over so I can sell it and maybe get TP instead (the superior Zelda).
