A lot of people makes the point about removing the kinect and selling the xbox one for 399 to bring it in line with the ps4. That is pretty much to say that microsoft feels like the kinect v2 is worth 100$ but like someone wrote in a post I seen is what if MS was just greedy and felt like 499$ was justified. I know myself when they removed DRM and 24 hour check ins I canceled me ps4 preorder and preordered the xbox one cause I just like the xbox games a little more at the time. Thinking most people would be happy to see the policies go most people were pissed and still hated MS for even suggesting them. So my question is if they dropped the price before launch would the same thing happen and people would be pissed again?

If they dropped the price it would be more fair game. Then you just look at pure specs.. anyone that cares about that would still get a Ps4. I've already made up my to jump to PS4 this gen... and get WiiU shortly after.. and Xbone about 3 or 4 years down the line after some price drops.

I would think "So the machines are now identical in most ways besides actual power, I still have no reason to want the Xbone"

Going to be completely honest, it wouldn't matter at all to me.  The biggest problem I have with X1 is knowing that MS doesn't support their systems with a variety of high quality content throughout the generation.

Look at the 369 this year, look at it since 2009, look at how they abandoned the original Xbox.  Once MS has made money off you MS no longer cares about the investment you made in their product.

Over the specs and any other nitpick, this is the biggest factor in why or why not to buy the console.

My mind's already set with PS4/Wii U. Based on the past gen, Microsft's console was pretty much identicle to sony's but with fewer and less interesting excusives. Then there's the whole trust thing... A price drop would make no difference to me.

Everyone assumes the Kinect is 100 dollars, but I think different. If you remember, the first Kinect was 150 dollars. Knowing the Kinect "2.0" is a much better, more sophisticated device, it COULD drop the Xbox One price by 150 dollars. If that were the case, only cows would by the PS4. But Microsoft is too damn far up its own ass to realize they could destroy Sony if they took out the Kinect, but whatever.

Oh, forgot to answer the question. I would be more happy. The Kinect is badass, but I say that as a person who likes technology. I don't think I would have any less of a problem navigating menus and playing games the old-school way. Either way I'm fine with the Xbox, but a cheaper price is always welcome.

Look at the facts. It's one of the biggest disasters in gaming history coming from the worst console maker who doens't give a **** about its fans. Here's what EDGE said: - PS4 focusses on players, that it is cheaper is 'merely one of its various advantages' - Success isn't merely about price, but unfortunately for Microsoft PS4 is more powerful, and more developer friendly and has far better brand perception - Microsoft's brand perception after the DRM reversal may no longer be 'down the toilet' but is still 'dangling somewhere around the rim'. - Sony is willing to let indies self publish and release on PC and that, along with Sony's 17-strong WWS, leads Edge to believe that 'leaves little doubt as to which of the platform holders will offer the broadest range of games, at least early on'. - Edge believes Microsoft has 'alienated the most vibrant development community in the modern era' and that their approach to indies is akin to them not courting EA or Epic last generation. - Edge thinks their policies may see hundreds of game losses to PS4 over time - After weeks of mixed messages Microsoft is 'a difficult company to trust'. - Xbox One is the latest in a line of Microsoft experiments that consumers have rejected for similar reasons - a line that arrived too late with features that were too early for the market. Microsoft 'has constantly misjudged consumers' expectations', their new box 'equally confused'. - Microsoft has 16 exclusive titles but are "trapped in the shadows of a mythical magic box that 'solves a hundred problems you never cared about solving in the first place". - "In turning things around, Microsoft faces the kind of challenge that once drove the mighty Sega out of the hardware business"

Even at $100 more the X1 is a way better deal than the PS4. The X1 has way more hardware and features than the PS4. If I bought a PS4 I would feel like I was getting robbed.

I might preorder one if they dropped the price to $399, but I doubt that will happen. Microsoft would lose billions. The XBox One probably cost close to $600 to manufacture. I still want to wait anyways to see if 3rd party games are better on PS4 or XBox One.

I think Microsoft's best play would be to include a voucher for a free game. Including a game with the console and including the Kinect brings it a lot closer to the PS4.

Why should a revolutionary and far superior system bring its price down? Xbox One is next generation entertainment and gaming. PoS4 is a overpriced PS3.5

I'm buying the X1 because of Halo, I have to have me some Halo, but honestly that won't be until next year close to when Halo launches. I generally wait a year before buying a new system so all the launch kinks are worked out or exposed. PS2 had tons of games but that system was shit for reliability. I switched over to the Xbox for Halo:CE and I never had a problem with microsoft sans the RROD. But a little tuniq thermal paste changed that.

the only reason for Microsoft to lower the price is to appeal to the casuals (which is obviously very important).. they have to appeal to those people who are going to make their buying decision right there in Wal-Mart, looking at a $499 Xbox One vs a $399 PS4.. the people on these boards have probably already made up their minds for the most part, so from a business standpoint there is little reason to drop the price for us.. even looking through this thread, the majority of people are saying that a pricecut wouldnt sway them from a PS4 anyway, so why should Microsoft drop the price?.

Its going to come down to marketing. If they can get the casual consumer to want to pay a $100 extra for the Kinect 2.0 "bundle", then really the problem is solved. If they can explain to the customer that "hey the PS4 is cheaper, but it doesnt have Kinect. The Xbox One comes with Kinect packed in", then they would be taking steps in the right direction.. especially since at its core, the Kinect is aimed at the casual market anyway.. that being said, hopefully since the Kinect 2 will be bundled with every XB1, developers will find natureal ways for it to enhance gameplay for hardcore players as well..

It all comes down to marketing and whether or not Microsoft can properly convey that message..

I'll be waiting until the consoles have been out at least a year before I bother buying one.

A price drop now wouldn't make me go out and get it at launch.

A console would have to be less than $200 for me to consider it if I am going to have to pay a $50-$60 annual fee to continue playing it.

If they dropped the price but kept everything in the box the same, I'd be happy. Still wouldn't buy until it was $300, but I'd be happier. Can't say I have any desire to pay more when I could buy the same product for less.

A cheaper price and no Kinect required? Then I'd be more inclined to pick one up sooner but wouldn't be this year or maybe not even next year.

So far, Microsoft's lineup of games has been really underwhelming in my opinion. Only ones I really care about are Below, D4, Project Spark, Quantum Break, and Sunset Overdrive. That's it.

However, Below is an indie title so it'll probably head to PC eventually, D4 sounds light on the gameplay (so I'll just watch the story on youtube), Project Spark is coming to 360/PC  Quantum Break will probably head to PC like Alan Wake did and after the lukewarm reception Fuse received, I'm worried about Sunset Overdrive no matter how good it looks.

There's still more to unveil (e.g. Black Tusk's Studio's project) so we'll see.
