I would give it a name that doesn't confuse and annoy people. I would give it hardware that is at least from this decade. I would make all gimmicky control schemes 100% optional for third party developers. That's about it. It would be a viable console at that point.
Ditch the tablet, Advertise it as a 200 dollar box that plays HD Nintendo games, put every classic Nintendo game on E-shop, start doing HD collections/remakes like crazy, make it as appealing as possible to indie devs. Thats all they had to do.
They could still do it too.
Much Bigger Storage/HDD, longer standard battery life for tablet, improved OS (coming), and Nintendo ID limitation (one per console) fixed.
EDIT : I had a longer list, but I will keep this list short and sweet.
EDIT 2 : Nov 2013, the f*ckin' OS still SUCKS. Oh well.
Add some Blast Processing!!!
Also name change, lose the tablet crap thing, and have Suda51 make me No More Heroes 3!:P
Needs dat Kaz blessing with the 8 GB of GDDR5 RAM.Â

It's GOAT processing now. Even more fasterer and HDer than Blast Processing.
Also, I would've made the screen 720p and triple the battery capacity. Would've also had games tied to the account which can log in from another console and downloaded.

OMG they have processing using the Generalized Occupational Aptitude Test from Fallout 3?!:o *ba-dum-tish*...*walks away*
I would just release more games for it because IMO that is all it needs is more games to get people interested in the Wii U.
Name change, pretty muchMonsieurXnailed it. I still think people just think it's a tablet add on If they don't follow game news.
adding 3DS emulator for download to it then put games up on e-shop or add on like they did for Gamecube would be nice . Of course it would be hard for me to buy anything on Eshop until they fix the issue of tieing downloads to console instead of your name
PLAY YOUR GAMES ON BIG SCREEN! Thats just a wish though.
Real solution is they should done better job releasing IP's even paying third parties to do so to get the console out and selling

Something like the Super Game Boy for the SNES. It's a perfect fit really, and I really wanna play SM3DL on a big screen. Although, that means they have to increase the internal resolution render or else it'll look like pixelated piss.
I would not change it, because then i would have to buy one more console
Right now i can skip WiiU until it is 150$ and has a really good Zelda (which may never happen together)
I would drop the pointless tablet controller then drop the price for both SKU's by $150-200. After that the other problems should start to solve themselves.
3rd party support and specs on at least in same ballpark as PS4. And dump the tablet controller...basically Wii U is an abomination.
Why does it need to be in the same ball park?MonsieurX
Power = everything and new ideas/change is bad.

So it can run next gen games. I don't think Wii U will be capable of running the games that will be released 2 or 3 years down the line. If so probably at sub HD...if it is even being supported at that point.
Name change, pretty muchMonsieurXName is fine. Just needs a new design so it doesn't look like a giant Wii.

LOL so power is everything for all platforms except shitty Nintendo games right?

It could potential run crysis 3 at a resolution higher than 720P if the gamepad was removed. The same could possible apply to next gen games.

Having a bunch of power will never make up for the lack of games.

So removing the gamepad somehow makes the system more powerful? Or are you saying therotically scrap the gamepad and spend the more on GPU/CPU?

Crytek was testing out the WiiU's power before they canceled the WiiU Â version crysis 3. They managed to make the game run at 720P and 45fps or something like that. They thought that if they were able ot turn the gamepad off the WiiU version of the game would look better.

I'm guessing this is not something Nintendo wants to support?
I'd fix the three main things that I take issue with as far as the Wii U goes:
