How would you rank the MGS series and why?

Personally, from what I've played,

MGS2 > MGS1 > MGS4 > MGS3

I liked MGS2 the most 'cause I seem to remember it having the most gameplay. Raiden of course was a complete douche but you still got to use Snake for the tanker mission. Also, I remember the first time I saw it the graphics totally blew me away. Really like that game, had the most fun from it.

MGS1 was good, a definite classic and truly revolutionary game taking advantage of PS1. MGS4 is a good game, I don't think it's AAAA. I've played through it three times - once on Normal, (then it got stolen and I bought it again) and then again on Normal, and finally on Big Boss Extreme (that time I played just for the game and skipped the vids). Personally though it really felt way too short and the load times and installations were horrible. I don't see myself touching the game for at least another two or even three years. I don't care about the emlems.

I ranked MGS3 last because I found it incredibly annoying to keep changing the camouflage by pausing and going to the menu... really sucks. Also, I remember the first time we were hearing about it being about "survival" and Snake will be eating live animals. Sounded brutal and cool, but then you play and knife the creatures and turn them into rations and boxes... that was disappointing.

I liked MGS4 the best. It was a perfect culmination of the series... thats why I'm not so excited about MGS Rising.

Gameplay and story-wise:

3 > 1 > 4 > 2

Epic Win OMFG WOW WTF-wise:

4 > 1 > 2 > 3

I guess technically MGS3 is the best of all of them, but MGS4 is the one that left me feeling like it was the best game of all time after I played it, it was the most complete, nostalgia-ridden, MGS game, and was amazing for the hardcore MGS fans from beginning to end.

I honestly can't decide between 1, 3, and 4...

MGS4 > MGS1 > MGS2 > MGS3

MGS3 is by far the best in the series. The story in it is just heart wrenching.

1 and 4 are close but I would put 1 a bit ahead of 4.

2 is the only MGS game I didnt really like but it was still good.

1. Mgs3- One of the 5 greatest games ever

2. Mgs4- Almost as good as 3 but 3 will always be sentimental favorite.

3. Mgs1-still great, even if outdated, second best strory in series after 3.

4. Mgs2- Raiden sucks but core game i still awesome.

1. Metal Gear Solid 4 -----> So far best game this generation

MGS3 is my favorite game of all time, MGS4 is way overrated and MGS3 is better then MGS4 in many ways.

MGS4 is by far the best. The story, the emotions it brings up, and the best gameplay by far.
MGS3 was the worst.

Haven't played 4 yet. MGS1 was great, but pretty overrated, MGS2 was just a giant disappointment, and MGS3 is the only MGS I consider to be excellent. Overall I think the series is pretty overappreciated from its stealth gameplay to its story. But due to the greatness that is Snake Eater, I'm lenient on the criticism.

One of the greatest series in computer game history.

I would place them as:

1.MGS3 and MGS1 (I can't separate them)

2.MGS2

? MGS4(I have it but i haven't gotten around to it yet, but maybe I'll start it in a couple of weeks when I'm less busy)

MGS3 > MGS4 > MGS2 > MGS

I didn't like MGS1 at all, though I only played it recently. Maybe it's because I've been spoiled by the later games but it seemed like it had aged really badly.

I loved MGS3's gameplay and story the most. MGS4's story just didn't have as much emotional resonance for me.

I never really rate the games. To me the MGS series is like one big game and each part is different at what it tries yet awesome at the same time.

Sons of Liberty was my favorite because I loved the way they expanded the story, and I didn't really mind playing as Raiden. He was cool.

Guns of the Patriots was my least favorite because of the whole Ocelot "liquid's mental doppelganger" fiasco that ruined the story for me.

I've only played 1 and 4, and out of those, i like 4 better

MGS4 = MGS3, MGS1, MGS2.

My favourite was the first one. It was really impressive for PSX standards! The sacond one was a desapointment since the best part was the one that came on the demo with Zone of the Enders I hated the resat of the game. MGS3 was good and i find MGS4 great too. Just not a 10/10 imo

So, for me MGS >>> MGS3 = MGS4 >>> MGS2

The third, because it's the only one I have played through entirely.

Haven't played 4 yet, but 3 was my favourite, followed by 2 and then 1. Haven't played portable ops either.

MGS4>3>1>2 , I really wish i had MGS3 Subsistance :(

mgs 3 was clearly the best, followed by mgs 1. portable ops was better than 2 or 4, which were about even

This is a hard one. Mostly because I haven't played some of them. But, I've seen them in action, so I'll voice an incomplete opinion:

MGS:3 > MGS:2 > MGS:TS (Twin Snakes)

I have yet to play MGS:4 or Portable Ops. So, they'll stay out of my list. And yes, I like Raiden.
