35+ single. Im a sales guy dealing in SIEMENS PLM softwares.Got no family, parents (Live alone as parents dead ages ago) to look after so i guess i spend most of what i earn ( Earn not much tho :P) on my gaming Hobby.

wbu? :)

FYI:

No need to be ashamed if you are a young student and parents provide for your any Hobbies. Its natural in every family till you start earning.

And its a System Wars Topic, asking users a common question related to gaming. Asking for mods approval if they deem it fit.

I'm unable to have a job ever. So I pay for it with money I get from fellow citizens to help me live a somewhat decent life. It's not much, but there are ways around it. I live together with family so having this roof over my head costs me like half of what it would cost other people to live in a much shittier place. It helps to be flexible and have a good relationship with people. My phone only costs me $10 per month. It's a Google Nexus I quite like it and I don't see the need to upgrade it cause I don't like phone games. I don't smoke, I don't drink. I do exercise with free YouTube videos, it only cost me a gym mat ($60) every few years. I have no car because I don't need one.

So I save a whole lot of money by living in a smart way and yeah, I live a life of relative luxury with lots of food to pick from, people cook for me and wash my clothes, a luxurious house, a good environment, enough money to buy plenty of games. And a lot of time to think. The downside is that I will never make a lot of money and I will never achieve much in life unless it's through things that cost no money. I'm starting to think of some ways in which I could still be 'useful'. When people complain about having 'only' $1200 a month or something it makes me laugh because I could do a whole lot with that kind of money, if you would see what I can do with 3/4th of that.

I work as an animator, and only a small portion of the revenue feeds my relatively casual (compared to others here) gaming hobby.

I'm 29 and have a job, so I pay for everything myself. Got a NES from my parents with my brothers when I was 1 year old. Later when I was 5, me and my brothers got together with our savings and bought a SNES. Same for N64. The rest (later Nintendo systems and PCs with games) I've bought myself.

Well it's mental. It's a problem with how my brain is structured. Which has quite a few consequences, the biggest of which I would say is energy management. Because that basically cuts my life in 4. It's also somewhat unique to my case. So if - for example - I have to go shopping (or walk through any crowded loud area), that will be all I do for that day. Because when I'm done shopping I will be completely exhausted. I can still play a game after I lay down for a bit, but that's kind of it. Same thing when I have an appointment with someone, because the anticipation of it tires me out. It's nothing physical though. I started exercising quite intensely about an hour a day (except for one rest day a week), and it has had zero impact on my ability to do other things in a day.

Because it's mental and different from person to person it's not clear to me, even, what does and what does not work. So I'm learning throughout the years what I shouldn't do.

And then there's a problem with traffic. I really don't want to get involved in traffic situations because I can't see who is going where. That sounds odd, maybe, but my brain cannot get an overview of what everyone wants to do on the road. So I do have a bicycle but I don't trust myself with anything more lethal because I am a real traffic hazard. And there's other problems like that, sometimes in places you wouldn't expect. (Like, I can't look someone in the eyes.)

It's quite silly because aside from these weird problems it's invisible, and I am pretty good at thinking. Especially when it's about thinking things through. So not too many variables, but exploring something in depth. Thinking about things from different angles. So when I'm at home everybody keeps sharing problems with me that need creative solutions. Which also tires me out but it's fine, at least I'm somewhat useful that way.

I understand and feel you. Is there any cure for it from doctors? Like medicines or exercises on regular exercise?

The only cure is death. At least that's what they tell me (and I'm stubborn so I will try some things). But it's not like I suffer a lot. It just limits my options. Causes some problems. People misinterpreting me all the time. I manage to enjoy life. That's more than most people can say, probably. Have you ever seen that piece of software that simulates a random life on Earth? (http://www.educationalsimulations.com/) I think I count myself pretty lucky really.

Today I'm going to go outside, face traffic, and have a burger at this place called Boekmans for lunch. (If I survive getting there.) I love those burgers. Most people wouldn't think much of doing something like that, it would just be a small part of their day. Maybe a backdrop for a conversation. But for me it is something special, a couple years back I wouldn't have been able to do it, and I enjoy it immensely. Every disadvantage has its advantage. There's no point in being all sad about it, just make of it what you can.

37 and earn my own bread for gaming. However most of my money goes on weed, which I enjoy with gaming.. I need to stop or cut down though as can sometimes spend £300 a month on it.. When the weed stops the gaming will probably stop as that's what happened when I gave up before. I just can't stay interested.

Sorry to hear about your parents mate !

My first ever consoles: Commodore 64 and SNES were both given to me and my brother from my parents. I also remember them paying for games, and me begging my dad to go to a game store with me :D

After that I got into PC gaming, and without any disposable income (I was a student) to pay for games I pirated a lot of games. And bought the occasianal gem like Half Life, Day of Defeat or Age of Empires.

As soon as I got to the age of 15-16 I started to work in vacations, and though going out was fun too, I found a lot of my income went to buying new games, new consoles, but especially new PCs.

Buying a new PC can be quite expensive (I spend around 1000 euro on one) so I save up for that, and I know long in advance when I'll get one and when I'll be able to afford them.

But yeah, as soon as I got a job (not even full time, just vacations) I've been paying for my games myself. I remember years back on my birthday that I took my dad to the gamestore to buy me a Gamecube (at the end of its life was 99 euro for gamecube and mario kart). But that is the last console my parents ever bought for me.

I buy all my own stuff, software and hardware. Hell, even when I was in school and taken care of by my parents, I still payed for my games and consoles myself (most often on sales) with part time jobs. Only time family bought for me were some birthdays when I got a Gamestop gift card.

28, I live with my cousin and work, saved up to build my very own gaming Rig and been paying for my own games since, before I use to rely on my bigger brother and Christmas gifts.

@indzman: They say the better you know a person the better you feel about them. Which to me means people are actually very similar, even when they're yelling at each other thinking they're so different. Because if we get real, we're all trying to make the best of things. That's all we really are. And sometimes that goes wrong. And we point at it and say "That's not who I am. Look at how bad that person is. I'm not like that." But really, more often than not that is a person like you and me who just wanted everything to be alright.

Was a nice burger. Burger looked a little tired itself, but it was real tasty.

Grow some yourself. Equipment for it costs, it's smelly and you'll need some space, but you'll save money in the long run.

No need to be ashamed if you are a young student and parents provide for your any Hobbies. Its natural in every family till you start earning

How do you define studying? My parents hadn't pay for my hobbys back when I was 15. During my apprenticeship I used the money I gathered there and during my study I worked 50% besides my study. I don't get why some people are so lazy.

That said, now that I'm done studying and working 100%, I make a lot of money. So I can buy a lot of stuff.

@Litchie: I tried this year but without the equipment it's too hard and I don't really have the space for it. Plus my girlfriend hates the smell. :(

@Jshoelace: Just my two cents but if you want to change habits even very addictive ones, I would take it real slow. Like set a 2 year goal. Not to postpone it. With a plan on how to get there that starts next week. And take it serious.

If you stop doing something real fast and things happen, it's easy to roll back into old habits. But if you make it a long term plan you'll get ups and downs and there will be periods that things won't work out as well as you wanted during that plan, but overall you'll see progress. And then it starts to become less about reaching that goal on that day 2 years later, more about the progress you're making. That really helped me with changing the way I did some things. Who knows, maybe it works.

I just turned 25 and used to think I was getting old. I am a soon to be grad student but I work so I don't have much time to buy all the games i want. That being said I usually buy my own, but I get money from mommy once in awhile and might splurge on games.

This is a good alternative, but I would suggest edibles. Just harvest the oil and make brownies or treats, a good batch can last for a good month

I had been paying for my video games ever since I turned 18 more than twenty-four years ago. I am currently 42 years old and work at a warehouse.

Well when I was young they used to buy everything cause I had no money. I got a gamecube around launch and was like damnnn cause I knew that was $200 out of my parents pocket.

Now a days I buy most of my own games and hardware but I get a game as a gift occasionally.
