There are two people queuing for a PS3. The first one is a woman. All the other people in this picture are journalists and PR people who were probably expecting a better turn out, plus security guards who can't believe how easy the job is as all they have to do is take the names of a few meek writers who want to take photos for their blogs.






UPDATE: We are reliably informed by a reporter friend that the second guy in the queue is "buying six to sell on Ebay". Worst. Idea. Ever.

We would imagine that there will indeed be some PS3s left over to buy this weekend. Bring a van, you can have 50,000 if you want.

I pre-ordered my PS3 months ago (when the price was first announced) thinking I would be one of the lucky ones to get it. I'm picking up my console tomorrow, but I have to go to college afterwards :(

It was merely an illusion that the UK is the bastion of Sony, in reality the PS2 simply offered the most appealing games to the bulk of the audience (Fifa, Pro Evo, GTA, DDR) with the 'security' of the brand name to go with it.

 Thats called damage control. I remember the pictures of the Japan Xbox 360 launch :P

Considering Virgin Megastores is one of the biggest entertainment retailers in the country, this is surprising. Even the original Xbox launch had a proper queue.

And if anyone's wondering, this thread wasn't made to bash the PS3 or anything, I just thought it was funny

No. The UK is PS2 kingdom, and the PS3 is not the PS2. They are completely different systems and it's a mistake to assume that a sequel system will be just as big of a success when they are completely unalike in price & features. 

You know, why in the world would people queue up for hours and hours to get a PS3 when they could just order one off the internet easily and have it delivered directly to their door?

Still plenty of PS3s can be found on various websites throughout the EU!

the aussie launch is over. the ps3 drew 1/10th of the crowd the 360 drew. while retailers were bragging about record preorders it seems nobody is coming to pick them up. the abay floppage has been noticed. nobody actually wants a ps3, they just want free ebay money that isn't there. but the retailer did act like true cows "well they haven't come to the launch......but you just wait till monday". rdo

Lol that would have been oh so cruel. I can see it now. Thousands of consumers flood the store, rush past security and come up on a warehouse full of PS3's. The consumers then all turn around, look at the employees, employees are looking at the consumers and one of the consumers says "get em!!!!". Later on the news you find out that the store was burned to the ground with all PS3's still accounted for.  :lol:
