I haven't bought a wii because it does not appeal to me. I only want to play mario galaxy, metroid prime 3, and future brawl. It's not enough to warrant a purchase. Well ironically I bought a wii this Xmax along with mario galaxy and a 2nd remote and nunchuck for $402 after taxes. My friend says I'm a hypocrite. The truth is that I bought it for my nieces, their father(my older brother), and their mother(sister in law im very close with). I can see how the wii can bring a family together. My nieces are very young; 3 and 5. I can see how they can start off with wii sports to have a blast. My older brother has always been a mario fan so I really bought galaxy for him. For my sister in law, she is not a gamer at all, but i bet wii sports will change that somewhat when she starts playing it with my nieces. So I dont think that makes me a hypocrite at all! Doesnt that just make me a good uncle/brother/brother in law? I do plan on barrowing it for galaxy once their bored with it though lol (but I've stated I want to play this game a a few select others many times before). What do you guys think?Rage010101That's great that you bought something so great for your family, you're not a hipocrite, you're a good uncle for buying something for your family. If you want to play Galaxy, but don't want to own a Wii, then that's fine, it's like me playing Halo 3 on my brother's 360 even though he bought it, or vice versa with my Wii.
I say it makes you an oppotunist
You have a device to use as well as share with your family and anyone else in the mix. There are much more than those three games. people generally overlooked gems on that console like Zack & Wiki for an example. Trust me, whether yours or your neices', you all will have a blast. I always say if you spent at least the amount of games to the amount the console, you bought yourself a worthwhile system. 100 away from 250, you and your neices are on the way of having a good fun system with a good library of shared games.
ya i was trying to tell my friend the same thing. but maybe sometime in the future i may just buy a wii and a ps3 when they pump more titles that i like. and im sure that will happen, just like last gen i bought a cube and xbox very late into their life span. this gen im sticktin with 360 for now until these change. Im sure i'll be buying a ps3 sometime mid 2008. money is not an issue. i can easily buy any system, hell i bought my parents a 46' lcd sony for xmas; it'll benefit me as well though since they are my room mates rofl. back to topic: man i cant wait til their bored with it...but then again, they are children, and things like a wii they will rarely let go...crap! i want to just play mario. hmmm i can always visit though...perhaps a good few hours a day? for a little mario....? :D
Good Uncle, even better if you spend time with them playing it.VScalar
im their favorite out of 4 brothers lol. i play with them all the time, now we can do something i'm into. it sucked when my nieces would watch me play games like bf2, cs:s, GoW2, GeoW, GH3, etc and they couldnt jump in on the fun (even though they still enjoyed watching me just play, I still wanted them to play in some way too). I think the wii will change that. Now we can game together lol. plus I couldnt stand playing dora the explorer one more damn time! lol I can see now how the wii is good for gaming; stories like my nieces' wii xmas.
It depends on how really "close" you are with your sister-in-law, but other than that those were nice gifts.

Well, you failed to stand by your own principles. You lack character, but it's just a gaming system, so you shouldn't have made such wild principles about buying it in the first place. You may have lost respect from your friends (And RIGHTFULLY SO), it's your own fault for mentioning this particular issue to them so long ago.
The bottom line : The Wii was $250 a year ago, yet you bought one now, missing out for a full year by "standing by your principles", yet you threw those principles out the window, hiding behind an excuse that was VALID a year ago, "it's for my nieces/family". There's no way out of it, you are a hypocrite, but I think you shouldn't have told us, because now, like your friend, we know too much about your character.
People shouldn't take stands on entertainment system's anyway, there are more important things in life.
Still, as a Wii owner, welcome to the fold!

You sold your soul to the devil(Nintendo)
I think this topic sounds more important than it really is. You were just being a good guy who wanted to make your family happy. Ok so even if you are a hypocrit gamer who's friends are.... they're discourages at you right (big deal)?... so what? You'd rather tell your neices to buzz off instead because you didn't stand by some petty princible?
There is nothing hypocritical about buying a gift for your family, regardless of your personal feelings about the product. You didn't get it for yourself anyway. I'm sure they will have a blast with it.
What would have been worse is if you had decided NOT to get the Wii because of a personal bias. Why deny your nieces and brother the Wii when you are the only one that doesn't want it?
Forget about all of the dumb responses you'll get from your friends and fanboys in SW. You did a good thing.
Assuming he's giving the Wii to them, he's doing a good thing. Judging from his post, he's keeping it as his place, and letting them play with his Wii.
If someone says one thing than does the exact opposite, they are a hypocrite. Did you do that or not?
TC, don't listen to all the fanboy's here for or against the Wii, you know what you did. You either are a hypocrite, or you really gave the Wii to them, and aren't a hypocrite.
Like I said, we aren't your friends, but your friends are the ones you let down according to your own post. If your post is accurate, then you need to look into why you ever cared to tell your friends in the first place you weren't going to buy a Wii. it's an entertainment device, all the other fanboys n here aren't looking at this from the angle you proposed. They either are for or against the Wii. Forget that nonsense.
My question is WHY? Why did you ever tell them you weren't going to buy a Wii, that's tragic! Why not take a stand on better things?
Why would you NOT buy something as a gift just because of your own bias?
If it really is a gift, then there isn't an issue.
This topic is silly, I was just drawn to it for some reason.
