Try replying to the whole post instead of taking one line out of context from the whole thing. There is much more going on than storing stats but you just want to knock the service so I see no point in trying to show you the light.

GundamGuy0

Ok, so match making is free with PSN and Wi-Ficonnection... So why does it cost Xbox users so much? I mean if it's so expensive and has to use dedicated match making servers why can Nintendo and Sony provide it for free, were as Microsoft can not?

So stats cost 14c a day to store... man that's messed up.

Matchmaking is free? Then why do I have to scroll through a list of servers on Warhawk and manually select a game, hope it hasn't filled up in the meantime etc? There is no match making that I can find on PSN.

You see when I play Burnout online I can load it up, hit join ranked/player match and be put in the most relevant game to my skill level etc. That is matchmaking.

Ok so one game is all games for the PSN? Madden Xbox 360 uses lobbies to... I guess that means Xbox 360 doesn't have match making either...

Oh and the DS and Wii have free matching making.

*Sigh* ok, whatever you want to believe. Simply don't pay, stick with the PS3 and enjoy the inferior experience this gen. I am happy to pay a tiny sum of money for the best online gaming experience out there, and yes that includes my PC.

I'm just glad that whenidiots startcrying on LiveI can hit a button and ban them across all games so I never have to be put in a game with them again. I can then provide global feedback on them so others get the chance to avoid them as well.....oh why bother heh, just enjoy your free PSN.

And you self owned yourself. Sony makes less profits than MS, and yet they're offering free online for their games. Why can't MS do this when Sony is doing it? Companies aren't charities, like you said, and yet Sony is giving away free online. Answer this question. Why can't MS?

LosDaddie

Because the networks are totally different.

That's why.

Right. It costs Sony more money running dedicated servers than it does MS providing P2P, and yet, Sony is the one giving online away for free. How can MS justify charging 360 users $50 a year?

How do you know it cost Sony more for PSN and it does MS for XBL?

Do you have a link?

Actually it costs Sony very little as it is up to the developers to host the servers for the most part.

[QUOTE="Zhengi"][QUOTE="Stonin"]Right, and Sony makes lots of money in it's other divisions so I suppose by your logic they should give us all a free PS3 .

Companies are not charities.

Stonin

Your logic is wrong here. No one said anything about giving away PS3s or 360s. We're talking about online games here.

And you self owned yourself. Sony makes less profits than MS, and yet they're offering free online for their games. Why can't MS do this when Sony is doing it? Companies aren't charities, like you said, and yet Sony is giving away free online. Answer this question. Why can't MS?

Self owned? What are you talking about lol. Sony are offering a very poor service for free and that is exactly why it is free. 6 million+ people happily pay for Live, how many do you think Sony would get paying for their service if they charged $50 a year? I'm guessing near to zero.

I'm done trying to explain to you though as it is clear you've never used both services (even though you will now try and claim you have).

So you don't think MS can provide the same service of XBL right now for free? In fact, the only thing you get with the Gold membership is online play. The Silver account already lets any user go on to the servers for free demos, XBLA games to buy, etc. What service are you paying for exactly? The online aspect. You mean to say that that would change dramatically even though the infrastructure is already in place and that the quality will fall? It's freaking P2P. How can the quality fall?

And like I've said before and you've avoided like the plague, MS does make $14 billion a year and can provide free online. Like you've been arguing, it costs 14 cents a day just for you. MS can't afford that, but you can?

And you haven't really explained anything. All you've given are excuses for MS to charge you money. Seriously, put away your fanboyism for a second and look at it.

It's not .14 cents a day. It's $50 for one year. According to you, the PS3 if you have it for 6 years, that means it's .27 cents a day. And it's not the money, it's the principle. I shouldn't have to pay for P2P online. Simple as that. manningbowl135

Then don't pay, it's as simple as that. Go buy a PC and enjoy the free online experience in all it's convoluted, cheater filled glory.

And what does it cost MS to provide P2P? Are you saying that they don't have dedicated servers for their own games like Warhawk? That costs money and yet they're giving that away for free.

[QUOTE="ShmenonPie"]It still costs more than PSN, and PSN is still a great online service for FREE!!!! It isn't an experiment gone wrong, that's just your opinion. It doesn't matter how much content there is, as you have to pay for the XBL games, and there are loads of demos on PSN as well. There's a lot of content on both, but again, PSN is FREE!!!! I can spend the money I save on MORE GAMES!!!! So I win, IMO. Also, P2P sucks, compared to dedicated servers. It's way more laggy and slow, and if the dedicated servers go down, they can release a P2P patch, wwhich I can download onto my GUARANTEED HDD!!!Stonin

Yeah those dedicated servers are so great I still get kicked out of Warhawk several weeks after release!

You see I own both the PS3 and the 360 and there is simply no contest in any way shape or form. Loads of demos on PSN? I can almost count them all on one hand, 90% of them being multiplats that I played the demo of first on my 360.

You might be able to buy one more game with your $50 but we get guarenteed online with every game we buy thus increasing the replay value of every title we ever own. With the PS3 it is totally hit and miss, some have ok online, others none at all and some have a fairly good service. Live feels like a coherant service while PSN just feels like something they tacked on at the last minute.

I will await Home and I hope it is able to offer some of the things Live does but I am highly dubious of Sony's ability to pull it off.

Warhawk has been out for 17 days my good friend. Several weeks is a tad verging on an exageration no? ;) Well, It's been out for exactly 2 weeks for me since I live in the UK and it came out 3 days later for us...grrr!

Anyway I digress. I don't believe you're correct about a garanteed online element to every game though. I might be wrong but isn't Kameo offline-only? I may be wrong but there may be more too. Just highlighting some erroneous statements there that's all.

I don't have a link as to how much it costs each of them. But with MS earning $14 billion a year which is more than what Sony is earning, they can afford to provide free P2P.

Also, I'm almost sure that it is costing MS $0 providing internet to its users. Why? Because games are hosted by your 360. That's the definition of P2P.

I own both consolesas well....there is no question which one has the better online service.. XBOX LIVE >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>PSN. I will gladly pay for something that is far superior. PS3 servers must suck if dedicated is sooo much better than p2p.

Sure I can join random games no problem but I don't want to play random games.

Kameo had online co-op over Live.

I mean saying serveral instead of a couple is hardly erroneous though is it, even though you could get me slightly on a complete technicallity that doesn't invalidate my point ;).

Your point hinged on the fact that after "several weeks" of Warhawk being released you still get kicked off servers. I pointed out that it hasn't been several weeks. Of course I am implicitly implying that such games always go through a teething phase. I have been out the country this week and haven't had a chance to see what it's like but it wasn't as bad as it was a week into it's life cycle and from what I've been hearing, it'll be better after today.

I do stand corrected about Kameo though, never played it.

[QUOTE="myke2010"]Yes, XBL has some nice stuff on it, but you are missing the two most important points against it. 1. Other then online MP, Silver members get all that stuff for free. 2. Since MP is hosted P2P and you must pay seperately for your internet connection, you are basically paying MS for the privelage of using your own stuff. Yes, XBL is awesome, but still, $50 is too much for what you are getting.myke2010

I have a job. I can afford .14 cent a day for the service that M$ provides....

Way to completely miss my point there. It isn't that it is too expensive, it is that I don't feel I'm getting my money's worth. Look at what you are paying for. Silver and Gold members get access to all the demos, XBLA, movies, shows, etc. Gold members get access to MP, but where exactly is that $50 a year going? Since all games are played p2p the servers already belong to us. Since we already pay our ISP the connection likewise belongs to us. Since we already own the game it likewise belongs to us. So in essence you're paying MS $50 a year to enjoy the products you have already paid for. You seriously see no problem with that? Oh, and I likewise had a job until I recently decided go back to school. Between my wife and I we made over six figures annually. However, if you would actually try to understand the intent of my post you would see it's not about the money, but the principal behind it.

This is system wars...this will go over alot of peoples heads just because they're caught up in the hype of which system is better...

Again, do you have link? How do you know XBL costs MS $0?

I told you, I don't have a link. Do you have a link for that info yourself?

Also, I have links showing Microsoft earning about $10 billion from Jan 2007 to Jun 2007. Do you really think they can't afford giving you free online despite the cost?

Yeah, I mean clicking on page 6 and scrolling to the bottom is just so hard!! Or looking in my post history for the first one I made in this thread.....tricky stuff indeed. No, instead you'll just try and call me for not doing something i've already done. If you can't read the rest of the thread then you shouldn't be in the discussion at this point.Stonin

If it's so easy, why don't you click and copy and paste it? And to let you know, I have different settings on GS. Your pg. 6 is not my pg. 6. I'm actually viewing 50 posts per page, so the thread hasn't even passed pg 4 yet for me. Like I said, I'm not changing my settings or waddling through all those posts to find yours.

[QUOTE="Magical_Zebra"][QUOTE="manningbowl135"]It's not .14 cents a day. It's $50 for one year.Magical_Zebra

Well holy bejesus!! You think? .14 cent per day roughly equates to $50 for 365 days.....

You could've quoted the part about PS3 being .27 cents a day by that logic. But why would you? This way you can look mightly and feel big.

We are talking about the the service, not the console correct?

And the service is not .14 cents a day. Meaning I can't spend .14 cents right now and have live for today and .14 cents tomorrow and have live for tomorrow. I have to spend $50 at once and have live for one year. By your definition a $100,000 sports car is only $13 a day if you have it for 20 years. But it doesn't work that way. You don't get the sports car for a day if you give them $13. That's why most people don't buy sports cars. You have to have a bulk of money at once to get it, which is why it's expensive and not cheap like $13 a day...The same of course doesn't work for Live. It's $50 a year and that's still cheap. But it's $50 a year and not .14 a day, clearing that up.

BTW, if you quote me, remember to quote that last part.

Magical_Zebra

I have never had those issues with any new released 360 game. By your logic newly released games always go through these issues?

I would say he was right if reffering to MMO's but like you say i've never had a problem on 360 and there are far more online enabled games available.

Thing is that MS is a software company and Sony is much more hardware focused. Guess what, the 360 has hardware issues and thePS3 software issues.

I'd gladly pay $50/year for hundreds of developers to spend time on creating gameplay rather than net code. If SONY would do this, maybe they would have more AAAs

And the old ones? My logic is true, though some are more significant than others. I can give you examples of some online games which went online without such issues if you'd like? I take it you haven't played much MMORPG's? What you have done is illustrate an advantage of the online architecture of the 360's over Warhawk's, well done. You should remember why they are having the joining issues, sheer lack of anticipation for demand for the game. Unfortunately this is Insomniac's problem.

What we will see, and quite plainly when the problems are resolved, is how online gaming should be - free.

No you dont. There are 1 month, 3 month and 1 year subscriptions. And no, you dont SPEND .14 cent everyday, thats what the cost equates to on a day to day basis. What part of that are you not understanding?

Xbox Live Subscription Cards
Look for prepaid Subscription Cards available only at your favorite videogame retailer. Subscription cards get you a Gold membership to Xbox Live for 1 month, 3 months, or 12 months.

Not to mention that most 360 games come with a FREE live membership for a month. I have like 14 of them rotting away in various games... You were saying?

But that's not what you're paying. So don't say I can afford to pay .14 cents a day for live, b/c you're not paying .14 cents a day. I can afford to pay .27 cents a day for a PS3, that doesn't mean PS3 costs .27 cents a day.

With live silver you get everything besides the ability to play others online but wait if you act now for only $50 you can get p2p gaming !!!

Really gold is a joke after they get some servers like the pc has had forever and psn then it might be worth it I say might. I can buy a game for that price like say crysis for example on pc that is exclusive and owns for the price of just one year of live and play online free with free mods for alot longer than 1 year. Just look at cs 1.6 still free years later if it was on live I would have paid $350 to continue to play it on p2p and got micro tranactioned to death !!

Flied_Lice

You're so lucky!

I am not lucky I am a pc gamer that $50 gets me a pc game that last longer than just one year and while live gold is a good service it's not worth $50 imo. Sure guys will try to find excuses for live gold like it's only .14 cent a day but as a pc gamer I know better. If all you have is a 360 then ms has you by the balls if you want to game online and they know it hence the $50 for live gold. Ialso have a ps3 and that is free also while not as good as live gold's or pc multiplayerit is free also and does what it's supposed to providelag free online gaming.

For online gaming there is only one platform that requires you to pay even the wii has free online gaming, I personally find it funny that ms has people thinking live gold is worth $50 a year. If the 360 last 6 years that's $300 not counting microtransactions and that is the cost of a core 360 or a wii !!!

Ms knows this why don't the gold users is beyond me ???

And you are talking about only using part of someones quote? Take your own advice and quote my entire post. Also you still didnt answer how the only option you have for Live is a 1 year subscription. I provided links to refute yours, good luck with the spin.....
