do you play all these games? Cause this is no different then running out of space on your old PSX memmorycards(or 360 for that mater). Just delete the stuff you don't use. If you feel like playing those games again some day then just install them again, it takes you no more then 5 minutes.

I mean ,when I got mine I thought 40 GB was plenty of room, i don't keep any media on the disk, just game data and I'll never fill that up right?

Well, its 5 months later and I've picked up a few of the better PS3 titles and guess what? MY HDD IS ALMOST FULL!!

PS3 MANDATORY install sizes:

GTAIV - 3.3 GB
Devil May Cry 4 - 4.834GB
Gran Turismo 5: Prologue - 5.235GB
Oblivion - 4.6 GB
Heavenly Sword - 2.068GB
Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds - 3.612GB
Assassin's Creed - 1.3GB
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction - 417MB
Resistance: Fall of Man - 219MB
Warhawk w/o boosters (PSN) - 798 MB

Coming soon:
MGS4: mandatory 4.6 GB install

So this means I'm at 30+ gigs come June, and i don't want to have to constantly go through an uninstall/reinstall process just because Sony didn't put enough GD disk space in their console!!! And why if Blu Ray stores 50 GB of data do i have install FIVE GIGS just to play the GT5 DEMO?

yeah yeah, I KNOW I can install a bigger drive and will obviously HAVE to but do the majority of users (ie non technical) know how to swap it out or will they just put up with the limitations of the 40gb model?

Yea, good luck with the 360's 20gb harddrive, its half full when you buy it (20gb, but only have 13gb left)

Delete the install data of games you aren't playing Jenius. It's separate from saves and just reinstalls if you ever want to play again.

It came with a moderately sized hdd, just buy a 250gig or something and install it yourself if you are worried later on. There's not much Sony could've done, they are trying to cater to as many poeple as possible, 40 gigs is usually enough.

afaik the mandatory installs will disappear when devs get a better hang of the blu ray technology and thus overcome the reading slowness

I think your next $60 you spend shouldn't be on a game, maybe some books?
