I almost hate to say it, but my money is going to PS3, NOT 360 (bad hardware)

:D Thanks.

No hard feelings. I don't hold anything against anyone. I just come on here to spend some time having virtual fights with my fellow gamers. Reminds me of the old BBS days.

I know three 360 owners very well. All three have sent their 360's in for service and some of them multiple times. That's all I know.

And I know at least 5 friends with launch or early 360's (me included) which have had no issues at all. On the other hand I am on my third PS2. It's anecdotical evidence which doesn't necessarily paint the whole picture. It is quite obvious that there were issues with some of the launch models of the 360. How big is of course something to debate but I personally think it is very hard to figure that out just from reading posts on the web. In my own experience the last month or so there have been a nice rise of people claiming to be on their 4th or 5th 360 or having a friend or a friends friend which now are on the third (even saw someone claiming 9 360's) and it just becomes hard to believe all of them. Maybe I am cynical but I do not trust many anonymous posters these days. I think it is quite short-sighted to choose a system based on this. Even if new batches of 360 still would have a higher than normal defective-rate the chance that you would pick one of those up still is quite slim. And if it would happen it still would be taken care of by MS. In the long run you should look at the games there are now and the games that you want to play in the future. If the PS3 library (current and future) fits you better then definitley go with the PS3. But if the 360's current and future library is more interesting I see no reason why not to go with the 360.

I also have decided to, later on, go with a PS3. Simply because the games it offers are more appealing to me than Xbox360. the god of wars, ratchet and clanks, FF, Kingdom hearts, etc. the only thing thats appealing to me on 360 is Fable 2 and Mass Effect. I hate halo.

Yeah, that was my biggest complaint. But since MS bumped the warranty up to 12 months I don't really care about hardware issues. Its like I know what I'm getting and if it breaks before the first year then I'll get it fixed. For most proucts, if they don't fail within the first year they are probably not defective.

I have went back and forth for months now, and with all the rumors and the people I speak with at work, game stores, retail stores, etc. there is no way I am taking a chance on buying one of those junky 360's. I really wanted one because there are some great games for the system, and I really like the original XBOX, but my money will be going to either or both SONY and NINTENDO who have proven that make dependable hardware. It's too bad Microsoft makes such bad hardware. JDW_games
It is sad that you think so, the vast majority of 360s doesn't break down. (If that would be the case Microsoft would be sued over their haeds and forced to take the product out of retail) Many of the so called "broken 360s" are undoubtedly false rumors (of course there are broken 360s, but not THAT many). My advice to you is to go for the console with the GAMES that you want. BUt of course it is your decision, have fun with the PS3/Wii.

[QUOTE="asmallchild"]1) Not a bad choice 2) You can always get an Xbox360 from Costco. Free lifetime warranty. Or you can get one from BestBuy ($60 for a 2 year extended warranty. Of course, you're on your own after those 2 years)

I think costco recently changed it's policy on electronics. it's now 90 days (still a lot better than other places)

The PS2 may have had some problems (mine has worked perfectly for almost a year and its been bumped and banged up pretty good, I even bought it refurbished as well. Seems the table has turned on M$ though, I guess thats what happens when you bum rush a console that sucks anyway just to get on the market a year earlier.

Granted I have a solid snake avatar....I own all 3 systems (Wii, PS3 and 360) and I have to say......as far as reliability and build goes.... Wii>PS3>360. and the Wii and PS3 have not given me ONE problem. For the first time in Sony's console history they have built a stable machine. It really is nice in that regard. I went through 2 360's in the first 2 months of owning it, on my 3rd one...ive had it for about 10 months

Here is FACT for you ... I have NEVER had a Nintendo product break down on me. They make a great product. Another fact ... Why would Microsoft extend their warranty if there weren't any problems? It's obvious that the 360 has some problems. Again, my money is going to the PS3 and mabye a Wii.

Or, you could wait until the next hardware revision of the 360 which will make the console run cooler and quiter. You might even get a price cut out of it. Who says you have to get a system now?

You haven't, but some people have had Nintendo consoles break down on them, and lots of people have had PS2s break down on them too.

If you ask me though, you're basing a buying decision on something really silly. If you really are concerned about your hardware, then just buy an extended warranty from Best Buy or Circuit City - they will replace your 360 with a brand new one if it breaks down. That's what I did with my 360 and my Wii - yes, I got my Wii covered too. I don't take any chances.

it dosn't.  there were more defective owners than defective 360s.  people refuse to read the manual so they break/over heat it.  more over heat and damage the brick than the actual console.  but over 50% of people that won multiple broken 360's never even owned a single 360.  the good thing about imiganary 360s is you can by them with imiginary dollars so it's easy for them to get yet another one.

It depends a lot on the manufacture date. If you can get a 360 that was manufactured August or later, you'll probably have a better chance at having a good console.

I've also played the PS3 three times at my local Best Buy, and 2 out of 3 times I've tried it, it froze. I don't know any specifics on PS3 faulty hardware though.

i bought 6 launch units,  all 6 are fine.  my nephuews own most of them now,  and even a 7 yearolds is still working.  why would my luck be so good and others so bad?  with the people that have multiple break downs i think if i had owned their system it would still be fine,  if they had gotten mine they would still claim red lights and defective hardware.  it's defective users,  not defective consoles.

i agree, i think it's gona be wii then ps3, then the 360 at the end, because the ps2 and the ps1 started just as bad or even worse than the ps3 did and it came out to be the top, but this time it's wii then ps3 but it's gona be close fight, i think the 360 is gona be knocked out to be known as last gen console along with little 12 yearolds are gona run xbl now

Ah yes, the second most popular excuse after the "It's a conspiracy!" excuse. It's the "It's the owners' fault!" excuse!

The thing it has in common with "It's a conspiracy!" is the complete lack of any kind of proof to back anything up. Consequently both excuses are inavlid and worthless. The difference is that "It's the owners' fault!" usually contains more content. This content is always some random crap the poster made up or some form of short explanation of how the users mistreat their console (in their imaginary world inside their head).

I like how your post is full of made up bull**** (it's the powerbrick that breaks, not the console, for instance) and how you then then accuse people of making **** up.

suddenly?  to everyone at the same time?  i live in phoenix,  and i dont use a fan.  what i do use is a surge protector.  you should have.  it sounds like your utility company hit your town with power spikes or something,  unless you think ms installed red light timers in all the consoles you and your friends bought,  but not in anyone elses.  it was the console,  it was the electricity.  if you dont believe me go to a pc site and tell them of multiple electronic breakdowns in multiple locations in the same town.  they will all tell you power spike,  and to use a good protector.

all 6 i bought still work.  i am 6-0.  other claim to be 0-5.  what is the difference?  owners.  are you claiming it is pure luck?  if you met my ex you would know that luck would have made me the 0-6.  since you evidently dont understand  electronics and think all things are random i wont waste time explaing why the power brick is the most common problem when people try to hide rather than ventilate it.  i'll just say it's heat, as a result carpet and enclosed spaces are discouraged.

[QUOTE="CwlHeddwyn"]like i said all u need is 1 fanboy on the internet to talk about how their console 'broke down' & it makes the problem sound really bad. Yes some Xbox 360s do break down but the problem isnt as bad as some (Sony) would like you to think.

Sony has never commented on this. I only hear about broken 360s from friends and internet forums (Xbox 360 forums on Gamespot). It's word of mouth. No one in the profession has ever once said anything about Xbox 360s breaking. Meanwhile negative news on the Playstation flows like water out of a fountain. It's not a lie...poll your friends. Ask them how many are on their first Xboxes.

dude ps1 and ps2 sold like crazy at launch and be on. because of the name brand and ps2 was backwards competitbale with ps1 and it was 300. with 600 I don't see the ps3 knocking down xbox360 and when halo 3 comes the ps3 is in trouble.

The number of broken 360's dwarfs in comparison to the number of broken PS2's, for me it's a little hard to trust Sony's machines based on their track record, but that's me.

I bought my X360 late for GeoW, it still crapped on me, but MS has pretty damn good support here, they picked it up from my doorstep to repair and I got it deliverd next week at my doorstep. So if X360 is much more apealing to you I would go for it since even if it broke you can count on getting it fixed without to much hassle.

Tho, I'm trading it in for the PS3 this weekend with my 12 games this friday. The PS3 is priced at 950$ (US currency) here in Sweden btw. The box goes for about 600 bucks here tho, but then you get 1 game aswell.

[QUOTE="InsaneBasura"][QUOTE="rdo"][QUOTE="InsaneBasura"][QUOTE="Illumination77"]You realize most of the bad 360 reports on teh web are false claims by sony fanboys right?rdo
You do realize how ridiculous that statement makes you appear?

it dosn't. there were more defective owners than defective 360s. people refuse to read the manual so they break/over heat it. more over heat and damage the brick than the actual console. but over 50% of people that won multiple broken 360's never even owned a single 360. the good thing about imiganary 360s is you can by them with imiginary dollars so it's easy for them to get yet another one.

I like how your post is full of made up bull**** (it's the powerbrick that breaks, not the console, for instance) and how you then then accuse people of making **** up.

all 6 i bought still work. i am 6-0. other claim to be 0-5. what is the difference? owners. are you claiming it is pure luck? if you met my ex you would know that luck would have made me the 0-6. since you evidently dont understand electronics and think all things are random i wont waste time explaing why the power brick is the most common problem when people try to hide rather than ventilate it. i'll just say it's heat, as a result carpet and enclosed spaces are discouraged.

Now I'm forced to ask why you bought 6 360's.

And yes, that's precisely what I'm claiming. Massproduced electronics with new technology break because of hardware/manufacturing issues. Why is this so hard for you to believe?

You arguement that it's the brick that breaks fails completely due to the fact that Microsoft doesn't require you to send it back. Also I fail to see how the PSU could cause components on the motherboard to fail. Error code 0110 in my case. And I'm sure if the PSU would overheat and die the console would simply shut down and refuse to start up again. I've never heard of anything like that happening to anyone.

Can you prove it? Thought so.
