First of all this is my second RROD now, which has come at a very inconvenient time right before the holidays. The failure rate of the xbox 360 is absolutely pathetic. Second off, xbox customer support has been utter TRASH. I have been told THREE times now that their "database is down" for upgrades so than i am forced to call back later. Than I finally get ahold of them and they send me my shipping label and all is well.....until i realize they now expect me to provide the shipping box and the padding that goes on the inside. The online tech support guy did not tell me they offer either an electronic shipping label OR they can send you the box with the label already. It's a scam if you ask me. They don't offer the box, but they do ship them out only if you ask. Microsoft has had me pretty loyal since the first xbox, but i am DONE. Two RROD and bad service, however they did send me a free xbox 360 wireless remote ***CONTENT REMOVED***

the hardware failures do stink. I personally went with the ps3 after hearing all the RROD stories. Hope they get it fixed quickly for you.

Yea, I've had a lot of trouble with them in the past, I went through tworrods and the third time I called in (which I did for a freind of mine whose 360 rrod) to get a box, well they sent it to me but forgot to include a return address and I had to wait an extra 3 weeks before I could get a new one for him. I was through with microsoft long ago, switching to ps3 has been the most refreshing experience.

RROD is the only reason I don't own a 360 and don't plan on owning it. (unless, of course, they fix it...permanently)

I work 25 hours a week, and take 18 credit hours as a science major. I have no time to be going to a store spending MY hard earned money on a box and padding for it. I mostly only use my xbox 360 for movies anyway when i actually have some free time. This has been such an inconvenience. And i am still not even done with them. I am still trying to get them to send me a box over the phone, but they constantly need to talk to a supervisor, and the other night i called after class before they closed and they had no supervisor!!! so now i am have to call back again!!

You can get free boxes from stores. Padding should be pretty easy to locate, too. Sure, it'll take a bit of thought and work, but it won't kill you, I promise.

For every person whining about the RROD, there are ten more who enjoy their 360 without any problems.  Sorry for your luck.

Why not? Just go buy another one then, that's the easiest solution. You're the one trying to use an existing warranty, and it's your item, of course it's your burden.

I don't think it has anything to do with luck, more so the xbox 360 wasn't designed well. My friends xbox 360 has gone through it's 3rd repair recently.

I mean your covered for 3 years, they send you a box and then you get your system back later, most likely they've fixed your problem. I've had 3 RROD and I've had it for 2 years now with out RROD, I think they installed the newer chip in mine. I do have my PS3 which I can't see ever breaking, the only problem is I have no reason to turn it on. Other than MGS4 and Valkyria Chronicles It hasn't been turned on. I've had mine from launch.

I will 100% agree the RRoD is unacceptable.

However, I find it odd that people have such trouble dealing with this issue.  I got the RRoD on a Sunday morning, around the 4th of July.  I logged onto xbox.com.  Went to support, reported the problem online, and never spoke to a single person.  I received a box, shipping label, packing material and even tape first thing Tuesday morning.  I dropped it in the mail that aftenoon.  Microsoft received it on Friday morning, in TX I believe, and had it processed, "repaired" and in the mail by the afternoon.  I received it Tuesday.  6 business day I was without my xbox.  A free month of Live (whoopie).

RRoD is crazy bad for MS, but at least, for me, they have taken care of me.  Just tossing in my experience.

how should it be his burden? tis not his fault the consoles broken AGAIN. HE shouldnt have to supply a box for something thats not his fault. its microsofts fault. its their fault that it broke. its their fault they created the console that doesnt work for more then 3 weeks. ive had mine fixed 3 times and it broke AGAIN last month so i put it were it belongs. in the bin. bought a ps3 and what a difference. so much better then 360. in the long run its cheaper too. only extra ive had to pay is for the headset £20 and games. beats microsofts £40 a year and buying an hd dvd player( if you want one)

True, Microsoft didn't break his 360, but they didn't build it reliable enough. Heck, a friend of mine had to send in his 360 right after he had it sent back to him. So, it's not just him that is having these problems with their consoles.

And I hold nothing against Microsoft or the 360, but I just know they can break.

I've had this happen to me three time already and sadly theres no alternative for me with any other console. The PS3 just doesnt have the games I want to play and I wont pay $60 for broken ports. The dilema for me now is is that my arcade game license seems to have gotten lost throughout having to send in 3 RROD consoles. I'm pretty pissed about having to (once again) call the illiterate M$ customer support. *massive sigh*

What can I do though? Ya...not many choices, but to go through this...again.

If there is a next generation of consoles, you can be d*** sure I wont be looking at M$ firsthand for my gaming hobby.

One, blog it. Two, I'm on my fourth box on my upstairs machine, and the downstairs one is a launch. Yeah, I agree with you, it sucks. But it's rather easy to get it replaced, and it's nothing more than a little hassle on your part. MS did the right thing by offering compensation for their mistake. Three, blog it.

MS and Sony both suck, they just cannot make reliable systems for some reason, despite their money and resources. But I seem to have bad luck in general when it comes to electronical products.

Maybe so, but sadly I already own quite a large library of 360 games. Most of which are console exclusives and games I simply love. The PS3 just isnt for me. I love Xbox Live and have been a member since its launch many years ago. Having owned an original Xbox and liking much of what it offered, I went to the 360 right off the bat this gen. The community aspect and console exclusives are what keep me holding on. These frustrations are just ridiculous and M$ deserves to lose every penny theyve lost (so far), due to being sued numerous times over this huge fallacy. There...rant=done...for now.

the only reason they offerd the warranty was so they didnt have have a total recall because there product had over 9percent failure rate, the right and smart thing would have been 2 recall but no they just had 2 1up sony it would have only been delayed 3 or 4 months 2 and saved them tons of $ but they said who cares about the customer

They send you the shipping label so you don't have to wait for the box to come. You CAN request for a box, but all you are doing is making it so you have no 360 for another three days.

Yeah, sure does suck when they give you an option of getting a box and label in 3 days or a label today. DAMN them and their clever ruse to screw the customer.

I've been pretty lucky. No RROD for me and I have a 360 manufactured in November of 2005. I think that should be worth some bigtime Xbox Live achievement, personally.

To bad for all of you having such problems. I have a close to launch 360 and an Elite with Zero issues. Friend of mine has another 2 and zero issues. So I hate to hear your woes but not everyone is having issues.

[QUOTE="iamthetruth55"]I don't think it has anything to do with luck, more so the xbox 360 wasn't designed well. My friends xbox 360 has gone through it's 3rd repair recently.thinicer

I've been pretty lucky. No RROD for me and I have a 360 manufactured in November of 2005. I think that should be worth some bigtime Xbox Live achievement, personally.

Achievement unlocked: Beat the odds: 250G.

... It's not Microsoft's fault the console broke.Jandurin

Now what kind of logic is that?  He didn't build the console did he?  No, Microsoft did.  They built a console that fails 33% of the time, not him.  They built a console that is EXTREMELY sensitive to heat, not him.  They built a console that comes with a three-year warranty to help the 1/3 of users who have a broken 360 due to shoddy quality control.  They--Microsft were the ones who cut corners, and YOU'RE saying it's HIS. . .Fault?

Oh man, this made every fiber in my business minoring body cry out in absolute agony. I think you're the one here who could never run a business.Verge_6

Everyone has a degree of somekind here. . .

Anyway, the consumer is always right, and there is no defending shoddy quality control by Microsoft.

Good thing I never stated I had the degree. I'm in the process of making an attempt to obtain in. Reading comprehension, it does the body good. ^^ "The consumer is always right." No, no, no, a thousand times no. That is an outmoded, outdated saying.business model that should have died with the 1950's.

"There is no defending shoddy QC on MS's part" Again, reading comprehension is goooooood. Nowhere was I defending Microsoft's QC. That wasn't even part of the original bloody topic for Christ's sakes. This is about the way they are managing the faulty 360 issue.
