At first, I thought that Sony made the worst mistake in the history of gaming by adding blu-ray to the PS3, delaying the crap out of the system, and then making it cost $600. In fact, it probably was the worst mistake in the history of gaming. But in terms of the PS3, I am starting to see that possibly Sony's worst mistake is letting holidays 2007 go completely to Microsoft, with nary even a fight.
Since games take years to develop, and we all know how cocky Sony was about the PS3 (see: numerous insanely arrogant comments by Sony "People will work to save up for PS3" etc etc), when they launched the PS3 they probably assumed that by holidays 2007 they would already have overtaken the 360 and become the market leader. They probably assumed that all they had to do was coast through the holidays, with nothing to worry about from the 360, thanks mostly to Sony's massive propaganda campaign. However, as we all know, this has not happened, and now Sony is left with almost painful gaming drought from August 2007 until spring 2008, or whenever the "heavy hitters" drop on the market (minus probable low-AA games like Uncharted and a few others).
Meanwhile, Microsoft took the intiative and are making holidays 2007 one of the most ridiculously awesome gaming times for any console ever- starting from July 2007 until the holidays, I will literally not be able to afford all of the AAA exclusives and other amazing games (i.e. the superior version of multi-plats, as always is the case) that are coming to the 360.
In conclusion, Sony has made possibly the WORSE decision ever in letting holidays 2007 completely go to the 360 (and Wii), with barely even putting up a fight. They really should have planned better for his holidays, and are now allowing the 360 to brutalize them in games and consoles for the second holidays in a row. Need I remind you that the holidays (not spring!) of each year have the highest sales of the year. The 360 is simply going to widen the gap EVEN MORE than it already is going into 2008, and developers will certainly take note, which will translate ultimately into consumers getting the best deal from the 360. The release of 3-4 "heavy hitting" spring 2008 PS3 titles will not matter by the time this gap is wide enough, and the PS3 will begin to visibly go down in flames. Thoughts?
