I am starting to think the Wii really is a fad

Why do some people think the Wii remoteit's the most awesome thing ever and will make nintendo win the war?

Wow instead of pressing B I wiggle it around...yay! :|
Instead on press down + A I move it down and press A.
Don't press A to jump! Just move it up and down! Err...yeah lame.

It's really only good for a few games like mini-games, ones like red steel if they do it right and RTS which the Wii isn't powerful enough to run any of the new ones anyway. What else is it good for? Racing? No if you want to steer buy a wheel. Fighting? No whats the difference between down + A and moving down + A? Nothing. Platform? Maybe for a few little things but still nothing great. RPG? Meh it'll be used like a mouse.

So why do people act like it's the ultimate thing? I hope the Wii does keep selling well but it could very well end up as a fad.
Think 3 years on the PC is miles ahead in graphics with full DX10, PS3 and 360 would have dropped in price and using every bit of power they haveand the Wii will have released all major hits like SMG, SSBB and MP3 plus will look very dated and the "coolness" of the wii remote would have gone by then. Would people still want it then? Will casuals move towards the PS3 when they drop the price and bring out games like singstar which casuals love?

It may be sell well now but I think the "less power, difference controller" way will come back to haunt them when it's missing out on a lot of multiplat games because it came run it and it doesn't have the mobility of the DS which is why casuals love it so much. Sure things like brain age or some other puzzle game is a great way to waste time on the way to work on the train or whatever but who really wants to play that at home on a big tv when you could be playing halo 3, spore, GTA4, mass effect, quake wars ect?

I am not even a sheep and I think not only is the Wii is a fad thing getting old I also think it is kinda bad timing. Best to wait and say that when it is not crushing everything like it isright now. Also xbox had the best graphics last gen and it did not win either.

actually making the movements is more fun and more immersive than just pressing buttons. It was play any genre, and some games, like trauma centre, couldn't be done any where else.

It's not a fad, it's really alot of fun.

How would you know that though? I know of plenty of people who are interested in the Wii just because the control scheme is so easy. My parents for instance were very much into NES and SNES but after N64 and PS1 the control schemes got so complex that they just gave up.

As someone who bought both DS and Wii on launch day I can quite honestly say that the Wii is more fun faster.

At this point in the DS cycle I was using it almost exclusively as a GBA with a nicer screen and stereo speakers.

no one cares what the ppl you know and deem "casual" think. I have friends that wouldn't buy any console and others that only like the wii. until it's reflected in the sales numbers these are all isolated irrelevant cases.

hmm.... if the wii is a fad, then what does that make the other 2 systems?? i mean if they cant even sell as much combined as the this fad, i guess that would make them..............failures. i mean come on? a fad? based on what? your opinion? Its sad for you that no one cares about that, i guess.

The Wii isn't a fad. And if you think that Ninty is already pulled out its big guns, you're forgetting Donkey Kong, Kirby, Mario Kart, StarFox, F-Zero, Kid Icarus, a second Zelda, &Project H.A.M.M.E.R. just to name a few. Then, there is always the increased third-party support which comes with intial sucess of a system. Get over it.

I really think the latter is more likely. For one thing it is nintendo we're talking about so there will be well crafted games with deep gameplay. Look at the cube, people called nintendo's games kiddy in that gen, but the games were high quality. Second, to me it is obvious that the wii will turn out a lot like the ds. It will have a lot of crap games, especially early on, but it will become a great console once it hits its second wind.

That's the point of new ips. For them to become big. How the hell do you think metroid and mario became popular? In order to prgoress, we need to try new thing and take risks.

I'm still skeptical about the wii series. i bought the ds for the games: FF3, 4, tactics, EBA, ouendan, phoenix wrights.... but as of right now the wii has pretty much nothing so don't go compare the ds to the wii

the wii is a gimmick, the excuse people use such as it cant be a gimmick its a true console even my mommy anddaddy enjoy it.

you know why they enjoy the wii... cause the games have absolutly no depth, thats why you will see games like excite truck and wii sports being played more than SSBB or the new metroid prime its because mommy and daddy cant get into games that have any depth into it, and that is the wii for the most part a gimmick that provides easy party games for people that dont know anything about gaming.

Okay all that are posting the WII is a FAD, WII sucks, let's look at the other consoles that are next gen..

PS3 man talk about a lame FAD console if there ever was one.. Most PS3 fanboys trump up the system posting oh This game is the best and, yah that game will rock unfortunatly these games haven't even been released... However on the same note towards the WII you Super Mario Whatever will be lame. What gives you can say your unreleased title will be better than a WII unrelease title... Well look in the Mirror your best scorring game is a 360 port, all else is really craptacular.. Yeah the PS3 is the textbook definition of FAD if there ever was one. On release people were shooting each other to get one, then a month later you could stroll almost into any store and purchase one. Damn talk about being owned PS3 fanboy sony owned you hard... They sold you a blue ray player that just so happens to play console games.

The 360 is less of a fad than the PS3, since it is the sales leader... However it also plays it completly safe, and thefore it is really just an extension of the XBOX. The 360 was the first to the market, and at least it had some worthy launch titles. However M$ wants to nickle and dime you to death...

In 3 years time, if 3rd party developers are still ignoring the Wii, then yeah, its sales will have slowed down. But if 3rd parties ignore the Wii for that long, then I gurantee you're going to hear more horror stories of developers going bankrupt.

If they ignore the Wii then, well, they deserve it.

ok, so lets have every game be exactly the same in a series so junior or mommy or daddy can play it... how boring would that be, i mean dont mess with a formula i agree with ex: halo, it playes like 1&2 but it adds some more elements to keep it fresh.

the problem with the wii is the reason its selling its cause it finally seemed to crack the jackpot motherload of an audiance, skilless and absolutly braindead people that no absolutly nothing of what a good game is and dont like any learning cuve...people that want everygame to be a button tap, good job wii!

now i dodislike the wii because that but its not likeI dispise every game for it i am happy its getting some games like SSBB, metroid, and resident evil... but on the wii, onlyfanboys and people that know games are going to get these games, which is sadly a very small part of its fanbase now, and you will see this by these games being outsoldby crap games that appeal to people that once again have utterly no knowledge of what a good game is. basically these people are starting out like it was the NES again, they are completely new to gaming and willprobably not likethese big title games that actually have somesort of depth to them.

Dude thats what a fad is, something that sells amazingly well for a while and then just dies off, I'd say the Wii has another 6 months to a year before we see any kind of drop off, and then it's still a ok console.

I think Nintendo is very smart, I mean the mainr eason of putting out a console is to make money right? Well hell Nintendo is makeing a killing off the Wii, is cheap to make and yet sells for $250, the games are dirt cheap to make for it to, And all the add ons, and the VC selling old dirt cheap games for more then there worth, is genius.

Hardcore is dead, this is the future, sell a buch of crap to all the dumb ass's that no nothing about gaming to make a killing, sounds great to me, where do i sign up, i want to get rich to man.
