I can counter you: I play all my video games online for free. Thats what I want it for right? To play video games on? It is a video game console afterall. My PS3 and Wii online > Your subscription service..

3DSOG

Have fun doing CROSS GAME CHAT with your friends. Or ESPN

Cross game chat isn't worth 60 dollars, and if I want to watch ESPN, I change the channel to EPSN :S Have fun wasting your money just to be able to play your video games?

...but Xbox Live subscribers received all of those features before the price hike. :?

Valiant_Rebel
Apart from the enhanced audio quality for voice chat. That's about the only improvement they have done.

it really irritates me when people try to justify a companie essentially stealing 60bucks from us and then comparing live to psn and how inferior it is. i have both. and the psn and xbox are the same, and whatever live might offer does not nearly justify the additional 60 bucks that live charges. both online services are the same, who gives a ****

In my opnion, i think that ms jacked the prices up to offset the costs of the sales they have been doing. live used to never be on sale. now that they are, they need to increase prices to sustain the losses incurred on sale.

When I voicechat while gaming, I generally prefer to talk to the people playing the game with me. If I just HAVE to talk to a buddy who is playing something else, I have plenty of ways to do so.

And ESPN on Live is just letting you access espn3.com content on your 360. If your ISP does not already provide you with espn3.com service, you cannot use ESPN for Live. If they do already provide it, then you can use any device with a web browser (such as a pc or ps3) from your home or anywhere else to view that exact same espn3.com content. ESPN for Live is just another case of MS making you pay (in the form of Gold fees) for a service that you already are paying for or getting for free.

Netflix streaming

PC: free, with Nerflix subscription

PS3: free, with Netflix subscription

Wii: free, with Netflix subscription

360: requires Netflix subscription AND Gold membership

Facebook

PC: free

PS3: free

Wii: free

360: requires Gold membership

Twitter

PC: free

PS3: free

Wii: free

360: requires Gold membership

ESPN3.com

PC: free, if your isp supports it

PS3: free, if your isp supports it

Wii: free, if your isp supports it

360: available with Gold membership, if your isp supports it

Onlie gaming

PC: free

PS3: free

Wii: free

360: requires Gold membership

I believe ESPN3.com access requires both your ISP supporting it and you having a subscription to ESPN on cable. I could be wrong, but that's the message I get when I tried the website, which leads me to believe I'd have to have cable with ESPN to access the website.

I dunno. My isp/cable provider are the same, and give me both, but if they weren't, how would they know what kind of cable service I have when I go to espn3.com on my pc? It's not like I have to sign in to espn3 or anything. On ESPN3's faq, it just says "ESPN3 is available nationwide, but you must subscribe to a participating high speed internet service provider."

You have ESPN3 as long as your ISP has it. You don't even need cable TV.

I think they blocked it on PS3 just like Hulu, But most people here have a computer if they really wanted that service I suspect.

If you really want it on your PS3 there are ways... so I hear ;)

Did they? I haven't tried it in a while, because frankly, I don't care about sports, but a while back I pulled up espn3.com on my ps3 browser. It amused me to go to the page saying that it was going to be available on 360, on my ps3.

I tried it on my PC, not my ps3. I just wanted to see if my ISP supported it.

I just checked again, it has me login through TimeWarner, then tells me that my current subscription doesn't include this service. I think it used to say my ISP didn't support it, but now it says my subscription. Error messageQE12DCSN01.

Last time I check the last time there was a ESPN3 thread :P

back to the topic.... free on other platforms so why pay for it?

Maybe TW only offers espn3 with a certain tier of internet service...

[QUOTE="coolkid93"][QUOTE="3DSOG"]Psn- You get to play online for free. Yeah great and all. But your getting a lackluster service. Xbox live gold- The creme de la creme of online gaming. You get a crapload more content. - Cross game chat Plagueless
NO. Oops my bad, having xchat is what makes XBL better. And go under your players met list on your ps3 (IF you own one) if you want to add someone. You don't have to type it in. Everything is smoother and faster? I thought that it all depended on your connection. Bottom line is, xchat and an "Excellent voice system" is worth $60? LIVE is good don't get me wrong. I like it as much as I like PSN but it's not worth no where near that much. It's not worth anything at all. I can see them charging you that for extra stuff like how Sony does with PS+. You can play online for free on there but if you want some extra content, you've got to pay for it. I can get the same things (except xchat) on my PS3 for free. I don't see how LIVE has a "crapload" of more content than PSN.

I agree with you to an extent, but the place where Live shines over PSN is in the online store department. Live has so much more good content its not even funny. Ever looked at scores for Arcade games?

I was talking about how much stuff you'd get for GOLD. I've seen the online store and it is bigger. No I've never looked at the scores for Arcade games.

Didn't Kotick say he Activision was getting money from xlive. Maybe MS gave in to Activision demands so they could guarantee their timed exclusive DLCs..

But you aren't paying to pay RuneScape online, are you? If you are, can you imagine if you suddenly had to pay 60 bucks a year just to play online? That's actually not a bad price for something that has no alternative, but I'm not paying for Live because my PS3 has that for free and Reach has split-screen for me. Win!

I read an article where that was the writer's theory. I'd say Activision is getting some money from MS for it, just because Activision has so much muscle right now.
