Not everyone likes the Final Fantasy games, just like a lot of people don't like Halo or Killzone. It's all just opinion really.
Tigertech... I mean Fatal_Poison ( ;) ), FFXIII was definitely not a masterpiece. The story was very weak, the ending was forced and didn't make any sense, dialogue was unbearably cheesy, and there simply wasn't enough variety or exploration. 8.5 was extremely generous. I'd give it 7.5 at most.

You still haven't told us why you like it so much...
Because it was new, unique, amazing graphics, brillant soundtrack, and although it wasn't the series best, the battle system was the series best. BTW, I do like linear games.
Yeah Don't go by "professional" scores, have a mind of your own. I can't believe that NSMB Wii and FFXIII scored the same. I agree with NSMB, it was a great game, but nothing really new. While FFXIII did almost everything wrong and deserved a 7 at best.
