I do like some songs from video games, but this is the only song from a game I have on my MP3 player :)

Being that you said "song" on general, Ill have to dig into my song bag.
If you have ever lost someone you love, be it a lover that left you, a lover that passed on, or just a close friend that moved on in life away from you.... this is the best song ever written.....
Pictures of You
the main themes from the Medal of Honor serie:
Allied Assault: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Z-xTChFstk
Rising Sun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zD-aeaE8lJs&feature=related
Pacific Assault: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlE6sVpkEf8&feature=related
to name a few
The Cure kicks all kinds of ass. I also like There Is No If... As for video games, look up Room of Angel by Akira Yamaoka from Silent Hill: The Room.Being that you said "song" on general, Ill have to dig into my song bag.

That is one of the songs I have listened to the most. VERY EPIC. MGS "DEFINES EPIC".This [Even though its within the MGS world, my advice to you is to watch/listen it all.] Simply spectacular.
XxSTILL_BORNxX
I went down to the Mary Carter paint store
I said give me one of them Smith and Wesson magnum forty fours
Cause there's a man that the law let loose and justice was not done
This man killed my wife and my only little son
I'll never forget the way he looked all through the trial
He had his big named lawyer and he had that smirkey smile
Oh yeah he got you off on a technicality
But you'll have to grow wings and fly to ever get away from me
Cause I got rights I got rights too
And this time there won't be no damn lawyer and system to protect you
But I'm gonna read you I'm gonna read you your rights
You gotta right to know that you're gonna go to hell one of these black nights
When the trial was over he had the nerve to say that's the way it goes
I said well hoss you better get you some corks
Cause you're gonna have to plug up a few holes
Guess he thought I was talkin' just to pass away time
But it kinda looks different now on his knees beggin' for his life
Hey I got rights I got some rights too...
No this time there ain't no damn lawyers and systems to save you
Anyone whom is happily married & has children like myself gotta feel for those lyrics.
You're kidding right? RIGHT?You can't get more emo than that. Except for, you know. Actual emo music :| Which happens to be an awesome genre of music by the way[QUOTE="Juggernaut140"][QUOTE="dark-warmachine"]

Final Fantasy has the greatest music in the history of gaming.
Aero5555
That is debatable, yes it's one of the best but I can't say it's the king of all.
Not if you take into consideration both the quality and quantity of the music the Final Fantasy series have managed to produce spanning several decades.

If it's about the quality and quantity and historic impact then I believe that Dragon Quest deserves just as much recognition if not more.

Eh it's not as popular in NA (not sure about other regions outside Asia), and I don't find the music memorable.
as the poster above me just said, Old Snake
EDIT: or alternatively KH2 intro song :) anyone whose played Kingdom Hearts 2 will share my love for this song :D
EDIT 2: Also if we're talking about emotional outside of video games, bow down to untitled #1 by Sigur Ros... I still almost break down when i hear this song with good headphones on :/ memories of loves that have come and gone, etc, etc
I cried my but off at the ending of MGS3. So emotional! But the music really did help set it off.
i really like Utada Hikaru she has an amazing voice her Deep River album was her best so far every song was great her other ablums where good but this is where see really found her voice and sang beautifully. Her newest album heart station (as far as japanease releases go) is also really good and her second best albulm to date.In terms of sad songs, my favorites are:
Stay Gold - Utada Hikaru
Memory - Rap Mix - Younha ft. Tablo
Memorial Address - Ayumi Hamasaki
Sakura Drops - Utada Hikaru
But I think that's enough from me, I don't want to flood you guys with Asian music and have people start sending me weeaboo msgs or whatnot.
None are songs from a game, though Utada Hikaru does sing the song for Kingdom Hearts :P

I had the pleasure to see Video Games Live and hearing that song live put tears in my eyes. Amazing song. You win the thread. For the record, the VGL Live version so much more epic. I'm getting chills just thinking about it.
But If I had to choose a non video game song, Meadows of Heaven by Nightwish.

yeah it really is an awesome song and i've heard people say some good thing abouts it at video games live shame i couldn't see it in person :( can proably find a video of it somewhere but obviously not the same as being there. Not really a OST but I found the rendition of Ave Maria in Himant Blood money heartwrenching.
