Hello everyone,,

I think all the comments on here about how exciting and brilliant VR is are all paid shills by an industry desperately trying to create itself out of thin air.

It hurts your neck, you look silly, you have to constantly move your head and eyes around. You are disorientated. Your house could be being robbed as you sit their like a wally. You still need a control pad. Waggle sticks are cumbersome.

There is nothing practical about VR at all.

The best possible use of it as as a kind of iMax at home.

This is the only way it will sell.

Despite the hate, VR keeps chugging forward. While its base is small, its still there. Besides very few here claims it to be exciting or brilliant.

Lol. Here's the thread, posted back in march:

Oh I definitely believe that there are people who really enjoy VR but it really just not something that I want to use to play my games. Just give me a standard controller and a flat screen tv and I’m good to go.

Yeah... no one likes VR, huh. I guess that's why Half-Life: Alyx is the biggest game reveal of all time on r/gaming several times over with a huge amount of likes and positive comments.

We've got a secret metagame in our mod lounge where we claim ownership of a troll alt and we then score points whenever our pet alt gets more rabid than someone else's. This one hasn't had any takers yet... But give it time. I'm already fielding 3, so I'm out.

I know this is a troll thread, but I can't help talking about VR. Granted, my experience has been limited to PSVR, but I've enjoyed it so far. Thumper was amazing. Absolutely loved Resident Evil VII, never even bothered to play it without VR. Astro Bot was Sony's Mario Odyssey. Farpoint was a lot of fun, but there needs to be more games that use the AIM controller. I'm just glad PSVR had more support than their Move controllers. I look forward to what Sony will do with PSVR for the PS5.

VR is great.

Pretty much the only thing holding it back from widespread acceptance is affordability. But, like all new tech, it is expensive in the beginning and eventually comes down in price until it's common enough to be affordable.

Also, people are hypocrites; you have people shelling out 1000+ dollars on phones on one hand then saying a 300-dollar VR kit is too expensive *shrug*

@sakaixx said:

Pretty much.

My experience with VR has been nothing but positive. For reals, no negatives other than screen-door effect (and that is pretty much going to be gone soon).

VR is pretty fun on VR-specific apps that make the most of controllers and so forth, but I think it really excels at sim-type games. Games like DCS World, Elite: Dangerous, and VTOL VR are simply the most immersive games you can experience.

And that's what it really comes down to imo when VR is mentioned: immersion.

There is still a lot of ground to cover with VR but it has made amazing strides and I think it will only get better in terms of quality, affordability, and game selection.

Agreed. They need to get it down to about £200 standard for it to become more widely accepted, better support as well, not little gimmicky tech demos. Valve seems to hopefully, be about to set a new expectation.

Though it's small it's substantial enough to warrant companies developing the content. The cool thing about it is that the budgets can be low so companies are okay with taking chances with a title. That Half Life VR game may have gotten me.

@Pedro: VR is the Carmel nut log that your grandma gives you at Christmas. Clearly someone spent time on this, wanted to reinvent eating sweets, but ultimately it's gonna sit in the junk drawer until July when it grows a beard and I throw it out.

I don't even carry a phone, so I'm not the best example, but I kind of doubt most people, gamers, spend a thousand dollars on phones. The average cost of a smartphone is around 360 dollars.

I tried VR for a couple of minutes. It's too pixelated. Your eyeballs are right up against the crystals. Even with there being a couple of thousand of them, it looks kind of bad. I would also rather use an HDR display than these headsets that are unable to do HDR because they can't get bright enough. And it just doesn't seem worth it at all for games that aren't in first-person view (most games).

I like VR and don’t care what you think about it.

Most who post here that are against it haven't, same rule applies to the hate PC gets its people who don't have gaming PC's posting absolute nonsense.

This guy is concerned about looking silly?... Passing judgement on others?... Really a gamer who by non gamer's is seen as a pathetic man child, you'd think they would be a little less judgemental but nope. Seems like gamer's online posses the level of acceptance only found in a prison yard.

The new headsets (if you have the hardware) are a lot more clear, but if you are use to a 4k tv, it does ruin the experience a little, that's what I found after I got my 4k TV. With the games I do agree. I don't really enjoy the 3rd person as much as any 1st person.

VR is amazing especially when you try it for the first time it's mind blowing with all the great games I've played this gen none of them are more memorable then my VR experiences. Especially playing old games in VR like F.E.A.R. Roaming around in your favorite game in virtual reality is like getting high and listening to your favorite album.

You ever play FEAR.....

on Veeeeeee-Arrrrrrrrrr?

Nah dude but seriously totally agree. Elite: Dangerous is a fun but tedious game on flat screen, but in VR it's one of the most immersive games I've ever played.
