PS3 needs more then a simple price cut and some exclusives.

*They need to get PSN on par or to exceed Live. Live is still console online king, even for a paid subscription.

*Multiplat Games need to start showing "the power of teh Cell" as enticement over the Xbox360. since PS3 is "superior"

A more clear strategy and support -

-Marketing- There is little information and public showing of Wand,

-better PR "PS3 will instill discipline, and people will want to work harder to get a PS3" will not cut it and they simply have nothing to be arrogant about,

-more development support tools.

*More innovation and initiative then just simply playing catch up with knee jerk responses i.e. Six-axis, Wand, downplaying rumble, complaining about SKu comparrisons, better relationships with 3rp parties-Activision??

oh forget it. They just need a miracle.

I actually sold my ps3 because its done nothing but let me down since i bought the thing a few years ago.I bought my ps3 mainly for metal gear and killzone 2 but both of those games let me down.Dont get me wrong metal gear solid was a good game but for some reason i just wasnt as into it as i thought id be.With kill zone i just didnt like the control,it felt wierd and hard to control to me.I was let down time and time again waiting on those games just to find out that they had been delayed like a hundred times and when i finally got my hands on em i really didnt enjoy them as much as i thought i would.Im big on online multiplayer and the fact that communication is so crappy over psn killed it for me because my friends and i like to chat while were playing games and sony dropped the ball in that area.Psn as a whole just isnt user friendly and can be pretty frustrating if your already an xbox live member and are use to how well that service works.Another problem i have with the ps3 is that out dated controller,update that damn thing already.Fps games just arent as fun with that controller.As u can tell im more of an xbox guy than sony but im definatly not a fanboy of consoles,im a fan of products that work well and as of right now im sticking with my 360.

Not that the Xbox 360 would even have to drop its price. It already has an SKU cheaper than Wii, and it's still lagging far behind in sales. That alone should prove that price isn't everything.

Wii is very popular with a different demographic, and this is Nintendo with its famous IPs. That's already accepted the Wi is popular and Nintendo have clinched this generation.

Microsoft's Xbox360 and Sony's PS3 are nore similar and target the same audience/demographic then Wi.

Microsoft and Sony said it themselves that they don't exactly see the Wii as in direct competition.

we can dream, but Sony said they can't afford a price drop certainly not something of that magnitude, but then isn't Sony richer or bigger then Microsoft? That's what has been stated here, but is still being debated.

So what's going on there ? Either Sony is not as rich as they seem or they are more greedy then Microsoft. Which one is it?

Sony want's to get into a price war with Microsoft they better be willing to take HUGE hits and sustain it.

Microsoft did this with the first Xbox and lose like what $100 per console. They did what was required to get a foot in the vide game market.

Now they are in a better position then Sony with this current generation, and are obviously better positioned to make price cuts.

They even said it themselves they will simply cut the price of the Xbox360 even more if Sony does so with the PS3, and they also said they will continually support the Xbox360 one day longer then Sony has for the PS3.

Why would Microsoft drop the Xbox360 anywhere around this time either when it is making them money.

They are making more Skus now with Project Natal coming out next year and have purchased some developers to start making first party games as well.

they need to sell 8-9 million PS3 this year to catch up to the Xbox360 if it is to be this year, and that is on the basis that the Xbox360 stops selling.

really need 10~12 million this year to clearly be ahead of the Xbox360.

True, but Sony will also go bankrupt in the process. I think it's safe to say that the PS3 will be last in sales this gen and the Wii will be first (by the start of the next gen at least). Though its always funny to see people saying 'just wait', its become a motto of sorts.

this remids me of Sony's mythical/extra dimentional ad "The third place" how appropriate now since they're in it and so are some of it's fanboys.

regardless of some Cows dellusions, the PS3 is a beautiful console I think and Sony just needs to focus on its strengths and perception.

_PS3 for it's exclusives- and they need to keep pumping out more and greater titles, because MGS4 and LBP though great are not enough.

-PS3 percepton as a high quality hardware, but it will not be cheaper then the more standard Xbox360. Sony must keep adding more to the PS3 and keep enchancing it's multimedia aspects if it is to justify its price and be seen as more of a premium game console.

Look at it this way. Though Micrsoft and Sony do compete with one another in many things in regards to the current gen consoles, there is room to distinguish from each other and capture there intended audience from the beggning.

The PS3 with its premium features blu ray, Wii-fi, blu tooth is naturally going to have to be more expensive.

Sony's biggest strength is to cater more towards that market who want premium things but expect such a market to be smaller.

The Xbox360 is obviosuly a more all rounder console as it can appeal more to mainstream games as evident in its multi console games performance, choices in multiple SKUs that can apeal to those who are more "casual" in their gaming and to those who want the extra features and are more inclined to pay for the extras- Wi - Fi, bigger hardrives (1 TB drive comming out soon).

The reason Micrsoft are beating Sony is because they have a bigger market appeal with more room to shift inbetween "Casual" and "Hardcore" though not at the extreme poler opposites that is the PS3 and Wii.

Sonys sees their consoles as a Hardcore gamers console, with features that are pretty incredible -PSP remote play, audio functions support bit rate, etc

Microsoft sees their console as the face of gaming that is it features more of the essentials of tradtional games, customising your own Skus, a wider price range for Skus- Arcade, Pro, Elite and the soon to be Project Natal package.

Wii is for the those who are relatively new to video games, a younger and different demographic and has seen the entry into video games as a kind of barrier because games are too complicated for them, the control schemes to sophisticated and maybe too violent and hardcore.

They are the biggest potential market and they also deserve to play games too.

The're will be some competition and of course Microsoft and Sony want to rule the living room but some people have to realise that these are the very nature of the consoles they were designed for.

Here is an anology though extreme.

Ferrari's are known to be premium super cars , expensiv, high performance and quite exclusive to those who have the money. Howvever will be in less number like you would say a Ford or Mitsubishi Evo. They can accept different fuels, there maybe more car repair stores for Fords and Mitsubishis then Ferraris and of course there will be more people who own Fords then Ferraris.

It is not likely Ferraris will be sold more then Fords other wise they would be bankrupt if they had to lower the price for each Ferrari or they had to start making some stripped down versions

Sonys problem is the PS3 is great, but not that good to really distinguish itself from the Xbox360 to play it's strengths to be the Ferraris of consoles.

Sony thought they could clinche the market with their Blu-ray -ps3 combination like dvd-ps2, but this misjudgement (and may also be inpart arrogance) have underestimated Microsoft- digital distribution, software strategy and the already abundante dvd out there. Blu ray simply is not big enough of a leap from dvd like dvd was from VHS.

You can't be the elite (or try to be elite) and be the mainstream at the same time.

A price cut would boost sales for PS3, however i dont think it will be enough to reach 360 and definately not enough to reach Wii in terms of WW install base..

I think its safe to assume by end 2011 we'll see new consoles coming from all 3 so should these new consoles be sold at reasonable prices, people will surely jump to next-gen...though Sony will continue support for PS3 many would want to get the PS4 and enjoy its visually superior titles / new IP's, so in 2 years (till 2011)i dont see PS3 catching up with competition..

(Once next-gen kicks off, the only chance for PS3 to keep selling is if it will be competitive price-wise against other Blu-Ray players, cause families/casuals might get it as a Blu-ray player while having their kids use it as a gaming system if it keeps being supported by devs).. but am not sure this will happen.

360 is the best gaming console because i has more A+ exclusives, full third party support (PC/360 games), best console version of most multiplats, my favourite controller and a better online service.

Wii is not better than PS3 but considering PS3 share too much games with 360 i see no reason to get both. Wii also have some of my favourite franshises all time like mario, zelda, metroid, etc

PS3, like i said above is better than Wii but is also to similar to 360. Unfortunatly it has less games, its overhyped/rated and too expensive. It have 2 games i sadly will not play: Heavy Rain and God of War3 but i can live without them :)
