I don't see the hype behind Heavy Rain and Killzone 2.

Yes, they both have incredible graphics. Absolutely stunning.

But explain to me what innovations or special features they have going for them.

Killzone 2 seems to be a generic FPS with ridiculous and over-the-top motion blur and effects.

Heavy Rain seems to be a strange QTE and semi-on rails thing. It looks like it has very boring gameplay.

I'm open minded here, so don't flame, I'm actually curious: what do these games have going for them in the gameplay department?

There's the source of the initial hype. But after the KZ2 beta the hype stems from gameplay.

I'm hyped for Heavy Rain because Indigo Prophecy was awesome, I liked the style of it too, the ending may have been poor, but the rest of the game was awesome, that's what I base my hype off, it has nothing to do with graphics. Killzone 2 is a console FPS, so I don't care so much for it either way.

The effects are too over the top for me. I don't like the crazy camera shakes and motion blur: this is a game, not a movie. Any other reasons?

first person cover, online class system with mix and match badges, oh yeah... the awesome graphics, and most beta testers and previews seem to be very positive aboutthe game

KZ2's lean and peak (I don't really know the details THAT well) is you press a button to latch onto cover. From there, you can go out to the side using L2 for left and R2 for right, and I think both is up... IDK, I don't know it that well.

and you think COD4 is original, in what way? That every one just kills each other like crazy monkeys, that can you respawn and get killed by the same air strike twice!? the game is like any other FPS or COD, its just done right, like Resistance and hopefully Killzone 2

I just chose it as an example. My point is that I don't want ten versions of the same FPS. Yes they are all slightly different and good bla bla bla, but my question was if they had any gameplay innovations or not. I never said a game needed innovation to be good.

Yeah I guess the hype is mainly for its graphics.

Judging by the gameplay vids I have a feeling Heavy Rain will feel like another interactive movie, which means you'll probably watch more than play.

But I think Killzone 2 will rock.

That sounds good, it sounds like the one used in Medal of Honor Airborne (but maybe more refined), i liked that one because it was different from the old lean and peak from PC, and absence or third person from consoles.

Since you want to hear about gameplay ill tell. It is a tactical first person shooter that is NOT like COD. Its not a arcady game, it has smart AI and that is one of the main reasons im getting it. Its a hype factor that is never shown when mindless fanboys hype this game. From the review i posted above they will describe the game has a good challenge factor and that really excites me because challenge is lacking from almost all games this gen, its truely a much missed element in games this gen for me.

Shooting mechanics is also another part that im excited for. The cover system, the way the guns shoot and reload, the way you have to aim your shots to win a fight. This is not a run and gun shooter, so stop comparing it to COD which is in fact run and gun.

As for your question on the clan thing, its the clans choice just like clans in every game if its try out based or not, go look up a multiplayer preview for better details, i dont want to explain but its a nice system they have implemented.

Now im still vague and im missing many points but i provided more then most people do, if you have any questions please ask, ill be happy to answer or elaborate on more if you so wish.

how do you innovate a shooting game, make it like Halo? jump a hundred feet in the air and shoot their "so" called shield and then shoot them again. you chose COD4 cause you know you like it and used it twice(clan tag). Killzone 2 will be fine as long as people like you don't play it. Why do know you need people telling you if you need to buy the game or not, arguing for the game is expected, but should i get and why? because I have COD4. Come on dude, EVERY FPS is generic, its if the dev does it right to their style. Why have so many people already bought COD World At World even though its the same as COD4, because its done right.

Heavy Rain is being hyped not only for its incredible graphics, but also because it is from the same developer as Indigo Prophecy. Indigo Prophecy used the same sort of "cinematic gameplay" mechanics that Heavy Rain will be using, and many people consider it to be a masterpiece because the on rail adventure game mechanics allow it to tell its great story in a very natural and seamless fashion. I personally didn't like the game much, but it was very well received by both the critics and the gaming public (at least on System Wars), so it's only natural that people would hype a game coming from the same vein.

Killzone 2 you'll have to ask somebody else on, I don't follow that game.

I like the complaints about generic but there has not been a game this gen that could not be called generic by your reasoning.

See Killzone 2 looks like Gears 2 did, a rock solid use of the genre. Killzone 2 does look "genaric", but so was CoD 4. It looks like a really fun romp for a good few hours then an amazingly polished online porportion.

If you want a FPS that follows the same formula but sucks, play CoD 3. The campaign is not even fun, its just boring. Killzone 2 looks to at least be fun with some pretty tense situations, breakable cover, first person cover system, decent AI, and some of the best graphics ever seen. Remember we have really only been hyping the graphics of the game, but it looks to be much better than jsut a graphical showcase.

Heavy Rain, all about the graphics.

Because Heavy Rain comes from a line of games that are very good.

Killzone 2... well, just look at all the praise it's getting. It is not a generic FPS, it oozes atmosphere and style, and after the beta was released, has people scrambling left and right singing its praises. Fine tuned gameplay, powerful cinematic feel, all bundled with incredible AI that provides a realistic challenge and a ton of variety. If you still dont understand the hype, then I grieve for you.

The effects are too over the top for me. I don't like the crazy camera shakes and motion blur: this is a game, not a movie. Any other reasons?awsss

now your just nit-picking.

Indeed. But is there anything gameplay-wise that isn't generic?

how can we explain anything to you about the gameplay when we haven't play the game yet to comment on it. All we can do is take the news we get from this game from the previews, and every preview i've read all state that the gameplay is awesome

everything doesn't have to innovate:(ps3_owns_360Wii

If something doesn't innovate or refine it only stagnates. Killzone 2 doesn't look like its doing either.

Anyways thats sweet... but is the clan system tryout based or just put their tag in your name like in COD4?

johnnyboy5000

I am hyping/buying this game because of the story, past experience with the series, and gameplay.

Please refer to this review before reading, dont read the side stuff well i didnt for spoiler purposes, but the main review talked about some things i will talk about. Any videos just go to gametrailers and look them up yourself.http://forums.gametrailers.com/?do=show_thread&id=570122&page=1#post_row_13766996

Now im still vague and im missing many points but i provided more then most people do, if you have any questions please ask, ill be happy to answer or elaborate on more if you so wish.

 how could you forget the badge system thing

oh trust me i didnt, i just didnt want to go into every detail before i knew he would reaspond, and as you can see, he hasnt even posted back yet so i dont regret my decision of not mentioning it at all. But damn i cant wait my friend, its gonna be a really fun game online and off :D

Killzone was to the ps2 what haze is to the ps3: A total letdown.

I'm not going to believe the hype, or the previews from the press. Because every hyped game in its preview stage talked up by either IGN or Gamespot, turns to crap upon release..save the obvious successes.
