I don't think you people understand, consoles are meant to be sold at a loss. The purpose of consoles is to create a massive installed base so that SOFTWARE sales get a boost, that's where the real money is. It's called investment.

Sony is not going to drop the price in the Spring/Summer (the slowest part of the year for sales), they will cut the price sometime between Sept-Nov for maximum holiday impact. Does this make sense to you why they would do that? Good. Now that you realise this, you should certainly realise why they would not announce a pricecut at E3. That would basicly be shouting to the world: "Hey everyone! Don't buy a PS3 for the next 3-6 months because we are gonna cut the price by $100 soon!" This is a fairly easy concept to grasp, but some people just don't get it. MegajerkNYC

Fact is they should have dropped the price last holiday season. And really do you think it matters wether you drop the price now or later this year? I mean if you drop the price now it'll still be cheap later this year.. there won't be any 'impact' loss and the sales will still get a massive boost.

Price drops wouldn't make a difference to people who already have PS3s. Having said that, I admit I was a little disappointed to hear nothing of a price drop. Sony probably can't afford to do that just yet.

Buy a 360 arcade today. Buy an overpriced hard drive tomorrow. Play online for a couple years. And congratulations, you just bought a PS3 without a Blu Ray drive or any of its exclusives.

Buy a Wii today. Buy 3 controllers tomorrow because online play is garbage. Buy a classic controller. Congratulations, you just bought a PS3 without a Blu Ray drive, any of the PS3 exclusives, but as an added bonus, you got a free downgrade to last gen graphics and the distinct possibility of having to register as a sex offended if you try to communicate with anyone else who owns a Wii.

The PS2 is still the best selling system, Now why do you think that is?The Wii is better than the Gamecube and 360 is better than the first Xbox. PS3 is no where near is good as the PS2 , $ony, lower the price now.

sony can't afford a ps3 price drop. i think they have to make a new ps3 model (with less features) witch will be cheaper

I am sure Sony will announce a major price-cut round Oct / Nov 2009..with releases such as Uncharted2, Ratchet & Clank, MAG & a few multiplats having a price-cut prior the holiday season is ideal...

a playstation is not expensive.. i dont know about the states but here in australia.. u can work full time at like mcdonalds or something for a week and earn 700$ which is basically how much it is here!campzor

Everyone keeps saying they're still losing money, but i remember Sony being close to breaking even a long while back so i'm sure they're making money by now. Anyone with some links? X360PS3AMD05

anyone knows how much did the 360 arcade cost round end 2006?

Cause lets say someone got an arcade 360 in november for $xxx and enjoys playing online he'll spend around $150 extra for XBLby end 2009..

(Am not even considering the other costs like Buying an additional Hard Drive or Wi-Fi, or else the batteries for the controller / charger...)

Also not considering the many thousands of gamers who had to go through the hassles of having RROD problems, though free of charge still a hassle..

All of the above would still not give the 360 owner the edge since 360 still doesnt have the other many features the 60GB PS3 has like SD card slots, Blu-ray player, Web browser & 7.1 sound capabilities...

Those who got a PS3 at $599 late 2006 had to spend only extra money for HD cables,at least those who had an HDTV.. Nothing more !!!

So does the 360 sound still the best 'PACKAGE' you get for the money you spent ?

You're joking right? PS2 still being the best selling system is moronic, LOL. PS2 is current has sold the most, but the Wii is catching up easily, currently Wii is the fastest selling system ever.

Firstly, this generation is far from over. With the current outlook on the upcoming Wii games for both third and first party, the Wii will over take the GC in terms of being the better console. N64, it is fully debatable, but not currently. Verse the current Wii situation, yes N64 is of course has had more influence.

But where did GC and N64 get Nintendo? Other bigger companies just stole all the revolutionary things they did for consoles whether it be wireless, the analog (and making FPS consoles actually WORK on consoles, Rare + N... and no, Rare is not the same as it is today, the only thing that really changed the same when MS got Rare was that MS recieved the copyright for them... ALL the key players from Rare in SNES/N64 are GONE and Nintendo sold 49% of their company once they left), rumble and more.

Either way, Nintendo smartened up, Wii was slow at certain points... But that had to be done to make Nintendo's pool of players bigger. Nintendo still making great games and they are in the money.

Anyway, if Nintendo died after GC, well... Where would all the unique gaming ideas come from? Lol, M$? Or Sony? Funny!

it's a little more complex than this but basically if you are weak you try to appear strong and if you are strong you try to appear weak.
