They went and put both the Cell and Blu-ray in the thing, without first considering the consequences of using such new-fangled and expensive technology. They wanted to make the "home media hub" and not just a gaming console. I buy gaming consoles to play games on, not to watch movies. Which is one reason why I still don't have a PS3, it hasn't reached the $300 magic number for consoles yet.foxhound_fox
I think this is why nintendo have done so well this gen. They have made a machine solely for gaming.
Maybe if microsoft and sony stopped putting out crap like Home, marketplaces, dlc, blu ray movies etc maybe they could release a game only machine that would be extremely powerful while keeping costs down by not having extra gimmicks.
[QUOTE="DethSkematik"]I don't get it either: free online, blu-ray, 3 systems in one (well, at the time...thank the cheap asses for that one...now it's 2), and people are still ungrateful? Well, the PS3 is gaining momentum, though. I'd say the price is justified. Pimpshigity21
Gaining momentum?:?
The PS3 has been losing momentum for months now. Why do you keep posting lies? Does it make you feel better? Are you just misinformed? Are you hoping to convince a PS2 owner or two that the PS3 is a great purchase? I don't get it.
The only reason why the 360 has been selling more is because of its price cut. The last part of your post seemed more like demented whisper to yourself than a comment on Gamespot.
[QUOTE="navyguy21"]because sony is going for profitability this gen, its no longer about winning, its about obligations to shareholders, when you are a publicly traded company, you HAVE to have worry about keeping the guys who bought your stock happy, or they will sell and your whole company will collapse. If they werent still incurring losses on every unit sold, or the software was selling really really well, (except for MGS4) then maybe they could offset it somehow, but right now, its not going to happen, if they did, then it would only please fanboys and abandon the people who bought stock in you, which is more important????bez2083
And for some reason, people fail to realize this. This is why sales ARE important, even though we as gamers can't "play" them.
The discs cost cents to make, yet there selling millions of copies for SOME games for $60 a pop.

... are you serious? Publisher Fees-Manucfatruing plants/ Wage Expense/ Tax/ Creative Design Wages/ Plant Assetts/ Equipment/ Transportation costs/Copywright Fees and a whole list of expenses for 60 dollars for great properties such as LBP/COD4/Bioshock is easily worth the 60 bucks. And half of the gaming population buys from the used market so where do the publishers and developers get their piece of teh PIE they are the producers of this product.
who the heck would design games if they weren't going to make money? Don't tell me you would do a better job.

Sony makes plenty of money from the games it sells, is all I'm saying.

What?
PS1 and PS2 games could be played in the PS3 before BC for PS2 was taken out.
