Who else does? This gen is expensive enough, and insane. Bricking firmware updates, RRODs, multiple SKUs, motion control, the old HDDVD/Blu Ray war, $60 games, microtransactions, etc, etc, etc.

It's driving me crazy. I cant imagine what next-gen will be like. If it really starts in 2010 I absolutely dread it. lol.

We can only hope that they've learned from their mistakes and can get the proper SKU's out and learn to test software/hardware before release.

Maybe prices will drop for games. It certainly did with the transition from the PS1/N64 era to the PS2/GC/Xbox era.

by the time next gen starts, i'll probably be too busy for gaming. at least, if next gen isn't rushed. that's my only worry.

why dread it?

Ms will get yet another head start on PS4. This time Sony brand loyalty will be nowhere near PS2 levels and MS will learn to make better hardware.

MS will launch first and HOLD their lead on PS4. Sonys going down next gen, whats not to love?

I don't remember PS1 games being any more expensive than PS2 games. N64 games could be pricey, but that was because of the medium (carts cost a lot more to make than discs).

The reason game prices have gone up this generation is because the cost of production has skyrocketed. If anything it'll get worse next gen.

I don't think theres anything else beyond what games have accomplished. I don't think we need a next gen, and if we get one, its a virtual reality type thing which will cost $10000 or something. We've reached the pinnacle of technology, so why move on?

MS cant choose to "hold" their lead whenever they want. Look at the 360. It had Gears of War released the same month the PS3 came out. Halo 3 was released a year later, with Mass Effect, and Bioshock. If MS couldnt put away the PS3 with those games, then cant you see it's not up to MS to hold any lead?

I've got worries for the next generation of consoles as well. All this talk about digital distribution and motion-sensing stuff makes me wonder if they'll go in a direction I don't want them to go. And many of the issues you mentioned make me wonder if console manufacturers are starting to get a little lazy and cheap and if the quality of the consoles is dropping. I won't be buying the next ones right away, and if it does end up like I'm hoping it doesn't, then I'll stick with upgrading my gaming PC from now on. (Since it's really capable of most anything consoles do and then some.)

I look forward to next gen. The Wii is quite easily something that can be improved on with more hardware and MS and Sony will need to think up a new control scheme. 6th Gen will be the most interesting yet.

However I think that either Sony of MS will drop out of the race at the end of this gen. We're nearly halfway and while the PS3 value is increasing the 360 value is decreasing. But in the world of gaming, anything can happen.

there are factors like European brand loyalty from the PS1 and PS2 eras. They also arent the biggest fans of the games u mentioned, unlike NA. Also I feel that RROD played a big role in MS not holding their lead.

You harp on brand loyalty so much but ignore the fact that the PS3 actually has alot of quality exclusives.

So by that logic the system that always launches first should sell the most because it has the biggest game variety?

Maybe alot of people bought the PS3 for old PS franchises like Ratchet, SOCOM, God of War, etc, etc, etc. Not to mention quality new IPs like Resistance and Uncharted.

Not everyone bought the PS3 based soley on brand loyalty. You cant argue that.

no console has a userbase that is purely a brand loyalist......but many are in PS3's case.

My logic for that claim? Both Wii and 360 are set to outsell their previous gen lifetime sales... proving they are attracting a new crowd. It seems most people who buy a PS3 had a PS2 or bought it for the bluray.

Ya know why the Gamecube and Xbox have sold more than their previous consoles? Because they only sold 22 and 24 million last gen! Yeah, the 360 stepped up MS's game alot. And of course the Wii is a phenomenon.

What proof at all do you have that "it seems most people buy a PS3 had a PS2 or bought it for Blu Ray". None.

Lol is because of this kind of comments I will laugh hard seeing the system that began in first place end up rotting in 3RD.

The Ps brand will be stronger than ever next gen, No more 600$ initial price tags means Unstoppable Ps console, sony wont make that mistake ever again.

why dread it?

Ms will get yet another head start on PS4. This time Sony brand loyalty will be nowhere near PS2 levels and MS will learn to make better hardware.

MS will launch first and HOLD their lead on PS4. Sonys going down next gen, whats not to love?

I think it's a joke on the whole superstitous theory everyone's come up with that the world is going to end on December 21, 2012. It'll probably start in 2010 though, which is when I hear Microsoft wants to get their's out.

Microsoft has openly admitted to cutting corners during development, leading to the RROD issue (which they've probably lost more money on than they initially saved). It's a mistake they would be foolish to repeat.

Haha agreed

Yes, because we all know Competition always makes things so much worse. Don't people understand the competition is a bad thing?

Seriously though, I think you underestimate Sony. Sony makes some great stuff. If you think you know what's going to happen next gen, you're fooling yourself.

It wouldn't be the second time Microsoft made a realy unreliable product.

The wii2 xbox 3 and ps4 have to come out by Christmas '10,however it's not out of the imagination to think the xbox 3 or wii2 might come out in holiday '09,the xbox came out in 2001,the 350 in 2005,4 years between them,so using math, that means an xbox 3 coming out in late '09 is entirely possible, especially since the 360 isn't so hot any more.

The PS4 may even launch first, I mean they're having the worst generation so why not? I mean the one that launches first one-generation doesn't always have to launch first next-gen. After all, not counting the Dreamcast(For obvious reasons) the PS2 came first but PS3 came out late.
