Honestly, i'd rather Sony launch last. I'd like to see the devs get used to the new hardware and max it out, i mean the difference between the first batch of games and the end batch was night and day on the PS2 (see GOW2).

I would hold off and let M$ and Nintendo launch their new consoles, see what they put in and then launch in the middle of the next gen. That way Sony would have superior hardware for two generations in a row (i know the 360 is pretty much on par)

as late as possible... 2012 is fine for the new consoles coming out, but these current consoles should have good support until 2014.

From a hardware point of view, I agree. But IMO, this has been by far the best gen for games, and the gen is just hitting its stride with games.

More than pleased with the games. Now some more experimenting and niche titles would be welcome. Other than that, hardware needs sorting out, but hopefully they all learned something in that area.

Sony doesn't really have much choice in letting the PS3 ride. If they came out with a PS4 first, Sony would be damning their games division further into the red.

Console launches are hell on a companies profits. The longer they can let their current hardware ride, the more profits they stand to make on it, and Sony knows this.

To rush a new unit out after the losses they took establishing the PS3, it would be a financial disaster.

I would say the same thing about MS, but they need to launch new hardware that is reliable. I don't think they could let the 360 ride that long even if they wanted to (and I am sure that they would have wanted to).

They have to be careful not to release their new consoles to soon, if they do release them early only few will buy them and they will be in a situation where they will have to support 2 consoles at the same time, not good.

Also this has been the most expensive gen yet as it is required to have a HD-TV to fully enjoy the new games. I don't think that I'm the only one who bought a new TV together with my PS3 (or 360) and I'm definetly not ready to spend more money on a new console in the near future. Many people are still sticking with the old sd-tv's or can't afford the new ones and I think it would be unwise not to wait untill a bigger percentage of people owned hd-tv's.

Its not about MS making the same mistake again, its about public perception. Public think MS make crap hardware that will fail.

This will hamper sales of the next system. You can also guess that MS will be dropping the name Xbox because of the association with faulty goods.

Well, for one most console came standard $300 last gen. This gen (unless you count the core) 2 out of 3 of the consoles launched cost $400+ bucks. Not to mention the price of Live, microtransactions, $600 launch PS3, $60 games, etc, etc, etc.

It's the most expensive gen we've ever had.

And I only mentioned RROD, bricking frimwear updates, etc because they are just a headache.

EDIT: Last gen games only cost 50 by the way... and greatest/platinum hits only cost 20. This gen it's 60 and 30.

As primarily PC gamer I'm used to upgrading and I'd be very happy to see a new gen every 4 yrs, as long as they are all BC (just like a PC ....)

I think people are forgetting the ps3 wasn't supposed to come out a year after the 360 but a few months,it was initialy slated for spring 2006...

Microsoft got a lucky break when Sony had to delay there system in America all the way to November and till march in Europe the following year,mainly because they couldn't manufacture enough blu ray diodes.

It's also logical that Sony will pull ahead of MS later this gen considering MS is doing nothing to sustain it's early lead.

I'm already moving painfully slow into this generation. Next Gen, I may just have to be Pro-Nintendo since they're the brand that gives more mercy on your wallet.

Who else does? This gen is expensive enough, and insane. Bricking firmware updates, RRODs, multiple SKUs, motion control, the old HDDVD/Blu Ray war, $60 games, microtransactions, etc, etc, etc.

It's driving me crazy. I cant imagine what next-gen will be like. If it really starts in 2010 I absolutely dread it. lol.
