somehow I do not understand how Sony is any better than Microsoft at "caring" about their costumers.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
People will claim all big companies/corporations do this. That's bollocks. It's mostly just Microsoft. KHAndAnimeIf you truly believe that, you know nothing about big business and economics.

Some lems really want this to be 06 sooooooo bad :P
Reality is, a decent 360 (that's not LOL 4G) is as much as a PS3. Actually more if you count XBLG.
4GB system is good. Reality is MS still has the cheaper SKU, and reality is outside of the US 360 is cheaper than a PS3, reality is if you want to buy the system for one or two games you have the cheaper console option; even more tempting if it's a multiplat.rofl, you mean the console that is almost the same price as an xbox??Did you buy the DLC? If so, that's why Microsoft treats you that way. Why give free stuff to 2 million users when you can charge them for it instead? Sure, 100,000 might be well informed enough to give them the bird & go to the PS3, but MS are still making cash off of 1.9 million. Yes, it's stupid that they are charging for something the developers want to be free, but there are many that are even more stupid by buying it...
..Or poor like me & can't afford a PS3 or gaming rig & just shell out the 8-15 bucks every few months.

No it's free because nobody ever before M$ thought about charging customers for a feature they are already paying for. Most companies at least try not to participate in scams like that but for M$ it is just how they operate. You can cry all you want, but at the end of the day, all companies want your money. Do you really think Sony has a free online service because they love their customers? No, it's free because they know it's a major selling point. Nobody owes you free stuff.

It's funny, I felt the same way about Sony, which is why I sold my PS2 and bought an xbox. Then they launched the PS3 which was a huge bust for people who bought it at launch. I finally bought one in 2009 after they tacked on all the things that should have been there day 1, released enough games to last me more than a weekend, and made it a worthwhile purchase.

Most companies at least try not to participate in scams like that but for M$ it is just how they operate. No, PSN is free because it gives them an edge over competition. How is it an edge if all other online services before DIDN'T charge for online? M$ was the first ever to rip off consumers so shamely with that, Sony probably didn't even considered it before since it was only logical not to charge consumers for online since they already pay for it to their respective internet service providers. You make it sound like without M$ in the picture everybody would be charging for online when it was with M$ that such a ridiculous thing came to be.[QUOTE="kuraimen"][QUOTE="yodaddyninja"]

It doesn't give Sony an edge over the competition, if PSN (not PSN+) was offered at a monthly price, at or below the cost of XBL, it would be a terrible investment in comparison. It's really the only option they have to make the service look attractive to consumers.

Exactly. If psn wasn't free, PS3 sales would of suffered greatly. And you also have to look at how high the launching price of the console was. There's no way they could of justified charging people for an inferior online service when they released a console for $600.
Well shame on the idiots who pay for it... If people will pay then MS will charge.... If MS could sell a DLC for $300 then they wouldn't hesitate to do so. Right, everyone who pays for XBL is an idiot...:?There's no possible way that it could be a worthwhile service. Perhaps that's the reason why Sony has almost completely copied every aspect of live, and now have a paid service as well.

They run a giant server/hosting/matchmaking system, and they haven't got nothing to do with your internet provider. How long have you been gaming? There have been many instances of paying to play online. Early gamespy comes to mind. Even though the endproduct doesn't resemble an MMO, the working of Sonys and MS' service does compare somewhat to it, and you pay for the service of an MMO. And Sony didn't charge for online in PS2 era, because they didn't have a central serer system, every online game was hosted by the publisher. Sony would like to charge for PSN, but can't because they were forced to go free in the beginning, and now people expect it (plus it's been a selling point for them).
I laugh at how people hate MS so much, the consumer is ripped off by every single product out there. sony rips off consumers who buy there tvs. and there home theatre in a box. the point of a company is to make profit, nothing is free, when something is cheap, it means its bad or they are hooking people in, its like PSN+ you say it good with huge discounts and free stuff, but probably sony is making more money off it because more people are buying the discounted games which they normally wouldnt. but facebook rips off customers the most

It's really not all that impressive when you realize they havn't really given much away for free during the past year and a half. I don't know how you've gotten that many themes for free (maybe it's american only). The majority of the free games are promotional items and games that really are not that great, and only select pieces of the free DLC are any good.

If MS were a generous as you make them out to be they would have released the LFD2 DLC for free like on the PC. MS presures developers to charge for extra content, the developers of Super Meat Boy had to create a loophole in order to release free DLC for their game. The fact that little gamer pictures cost a dollar is enough for anybody to see that MS only gives out good free content when they have to.
I lol at people saying that SONY cares for their costumers because they keep PSN free. The only reason PSN is free is so PSN has something over XBL. People see the free online so they buy a PS3, thus giving SONY money. No company hates you, they just don't care about you. It's more about the stuff in your wallet.ujjval16

Sony would like to charge for PSN, but can't because they were forced to go free in the beginning, and now people expect it (plus it's been a selling point for them). I'm not arguing about the services Live provides but the ability to play online which is a service NOT provided by Microsoft. You do realize that when you buy a game with an online portion the developers of that game were the ones who worked on it and are charging you for that part of the game when they sell it? So if you decide not to pay for Live you're basically paying the whole game with the online portion to the developers but you can't use it because you have to pay Microsoft to let you use something you already paid for. Also the SERVICE of using online which is the only thing you need to play those parts of the games is already provided by your ISP and it is their service NOT Microsoft's. Live has some services alright like coss game chat and maybe servers and it's ok if they charge you for that but when on top they charge you for something as basic as letting you play online it is a rip off since they are charging you to let you use something that is basically not theirs. Did Gamespy prevented you from playing your games online at all if you didn't want to pay for their service even when you purchased the complete game? of course not. MMO's are different since basically you're paying the developers and the game is made in a way that you don't have to keep buying newer versions and the developer's profit doesn't depend on releasing new games all the time like normal game devs. That's why it makes sense in such an environment for the customer to pay constantly. People expect it to go free from the beggining because no one should be paying for a service or the ability to play a game twice. Microsoft of course changed the standards and next gen gamers will probably have to shell for 3 online services, one for each console each year. Microsoft basically changed the future of console gaming to one where customers are going to get more milked and people defend this which is beyond my belief but I guess I lost my faith on the good judgement of the average consumer long ago. If Sony starts charging for playing online next gen I won't be buying their console either.

Right, XBL gold is just for P2P games, it includes nothing else...besides P2P is fine.

No companies like to take care of their "fans" (customers). They do however like to create the illusion that they are.
