It's simply not enough for anyone all that into gaming as a hobbie, and they fool themselves thinking otherwise. The best games on the app store are 5 minute distractions, tops. Perhaps that fills a nieche, when I've already checked facebook to chop some fruit while waiting for my order to be taken but anything longer? please. If i've got even 15 minutes than why the hell not get in some Mario Kart? I'm typing this on an iPad, and listening to music on my iPhone. I love these devices to death and cannot imagine life without a tablet or smartphone anymore. but I also have a 3DS and Vita on docks right beside it. Which one am i going to be spending the most time with tonight? surely not a marathon session of Infinity blade when I can play MGS2. I challenge any System Warrior to give me a game that can hold my attention for as long as Metal Gear, or Kid Icarus. With the limited control possibilities, I'm not sure it can be done. Please, prove me wrong.

If they have enough money to afford an Apple product, then they won't have trouble buying a gaming system if they choose to.

Well,iOS isn't intended for serious gaming, there are hardly any gamers that play exclusively in iOS.Those games are intended as distractions to kill time while waiting for something, and that's it.You won't use iOS for more "organized" gaming...

You really don't have anything to feel "bad" about :?

Find me a 3DS or Vita game that's as or more convenient to play when i've only got a phone.

I dont want to carry 3 systems around every time i go out.

So we gonna pretend the games aren't improving as years pass by. We got Angry Bird in the early days, and now we get AAA games from Epic, and Dungeon Defenders, etc. The future is tablets for all things. Key: Current hardware limitation, but future = replacement for PC, console, handheld. The world is waiting for the other big boys to jump in (Intel, nVidia).

I don't live in Japan. I drive my car to work. I don't take long car rides with my parents anymore. Handhelds are irrelevant and impractical for many people, including myself.

Infinity blade 2? I could have played punch out years ago. Visuals in such a on-rails game don't impress me.

Like mentioned above iOS games are basically distractions while waiting at the Drs. office, or while getting the oil changed in your car. They are serious games to people who think games like Farmville are serious games.

iOS gaming is not meant to be in the same space as 3DS and Vita gaming. It's a more casualized and streamlined experience, and it offers some great games within that niche. It is great for what it is. Think of iOS gaming as the 'Wii' of handheld gaming, while the 3DS and Vita are the Xbox 360 and PS3 of Vita gaming, and you will begin to understand.

The IOS games does it job - playing short sessions while on the go. But I find it tedious to be engaged with it for extended periods.

IOS is not built for hardcore gamers. When I'm on the go, I tend to want to surf or listen to music a lot more than play games. If I am playing games, I don't want cinematic adventures. I want word warp, or tetris, or coin drop. Something that is fun for literally two minutes.

So don't feel bad for IOS gamers. They are most likely not your game hobbyists.

I can play a game on my iPod, but It really does blow.

I played Sonic All Star Racing on there recently and at first I thought you had to hold the screen button down to move. Nope, it's practically all Auto.

not necessarily. ios games are cheaper so in the long run you spend less money on gaming than to console or handheld gaming.

Funny because I can play FIFA soccer, NBA 2K12, FF3, GTA 3, Modern Combat 3 and a whole bunch of other "full fledged" type games on my iPad and not look like a complete tool doing so out in public. I mean seriously who looks more like a loser, the 20-40+ guy with the Vita or the same guy with an iPhone or iPad??

You can customise the controls on there so it you can have accelerator buttons as well as brakes. It's really up to you.

There's no one out there trying to have a deep gaming experience on their iPhone, or at least anyone who is trying will soon stop. I don't see who you're directing this towards, really.

Are you sure? I'm sure I saw some! I only bought it for my nephew so I've scarcely played it. I'm sure there was an option though. I'll have to take your word for it, I've been playing Final Freeway instead.

Gas is automatic.

Mobile games are designed to be played on the go, unlike the majority of handheld titles that seem to just be inferior console like experiences.

It stinks, I agree. The rumoured controller will make a big difference though. Games like pinball work better than the consoles, and old arcade games with the icade are just fine. The biggest problem with iOS, though, is QUALiTY CONTROL in the App store. Apparently, there is none.

I've never played PW so I can't comment on mission structure, but the one thing I've always heard was that the controls were bad on psp. Having a second analog stick remedied this problem. Some of these handheld games feel shoehorned onto the platfroms.

Whioe I like Android better, I admit iOS has a larger game selection. My Android phone is good enough so far to stop me from buying a 3DS and/or a Vita. I have around 60 games on my phone and they all cost me less than just one 3DS or Vita game. Then there is everything else I can do on my phone that you can't do as good or at all on the 3DS or Vita.

You've got that right, and while there are horrible games on any platform, the sheer number of shovelware games on iOS is unbelievable. Anyone with 99 bucks can get a license and try to strike it rich on the AppStore. Of course, that's the same reason we've seen some truly awesome Indy games on the platform too. At least on the AppStore you're not spending 30-40 bucks on the latest mobile stinker, if you even paid for it at all.

It sounds like the platform just isn't for you. Personally I actually prefer the more console type experiences and classic ports on my iPad 2 over the casual stuff, spending a lot of time with them lately too. Its even sweeter when you get them on sale though, I recommend AppZapp HD for latest sales and freebies.

Here's all my App Store games. I got each and every one for free:

Ragdoll Blaster 2

Swordigo

Wolfenstein 3D

Zenonia

Zenonia 2

Zenonia 3

Zenonia 4

Temple Run

Dawn of Magic

Zombie Life

Happy Park

Nyan Cat: Lost in Space

Contract Killer: Zombies

Nuts!

Ricky Carmichael's Motocross

iGun Pro

Monster Pet Shop

Warring States

DragonVale

Fling!

Legendary Wars

Zombie Highway

Quell

Sudoku

Anodia

Demon Hunter

Racing Penguin

Siege Hero

Gun Bros

Pocket Frogs

Third Blade

Icy Escort

Parachute

Gravity Guy

Eternity Warriors

Cave Bowling

Poker by Zynga

Baseball Superstars

NinJump

Crime INC.

FarmVille

Chess

Checkers

Retro Pinball

Zombie Farm

Army of Darkness Defense

Solitare

MetalStorm: Wingman

Smurfs' Village

Fragger

The ones I've bolded are deep games that you can drop hours upon hours into. I mean, you can drop hours into a lot of them if you find them fun, but those games are RPG's with stat building, character building and stuff like that. To get all those games for free is pretty good.

While I do use my iPhone and iPad for games, it's not their primary function. Though there have been a fair few good games to play, they have been touch and swipe, and not anything that requires gamepad control. Those games never work quite as well as they should.

I still prefer a real controller, or KB and mouse.

IOS gaming to console/PC gaming is similar to crossword puzzle on the bus to a chess tournament. Different situation and different time commitment. I can never accept the argument that any IOS game experience can be superior than gaming on a proper console/PC, there is simply not enough resource and scale to even compete. However I also can't accept the argument that console/PC gaming will be as readily available as IOS gaming everywhere, I can't even carry my 1440p monitor on a bus let alone the rest of the build.

As does my PC. But I didn't play a few flash games on it and decide I had to make a thread dismissing the entire platform. :|
