I don't think there is such thing as IoS gamer. But I prefer IoS gaming to handheld, because I ain't gonna carry a 3DS around with me, and will rarely need to play it anywhere out of home. I always have an iPhone with some good games to kill time, Doodle Jump, and GTA:CW
Find me a 3DS or Vita game that's as or more convenient to play when i've only got a phone.
I dont want to carry 3 systems around every time i go out.

Trick question?
Steve Jobs himself said the gaming on iOS is casual gaming, they have no interest in the core gaming market and that markey simply wouldn't work on their products anyway, I don't understand why everyone is hating. Apple don't even make any games for iOS, it's all independant developers who are earning a living. All the hate is pretty sad to be honest.
One thing newer places like the app store and Steam have done is they have brought back a bit of the madness of the independent. Tiny developers giving it a go with no budget. I've not seen such a thing in this quantity since the spectrum days.
Bring back Manic Miner.
Ok, there is something to say about the RPG games on the iPod now..
Zenoia 3 is pretty cool on the iPod.

all independant developers that leech and steal each others ideas and create hundreds of very closely related copies of the same game.
yeah it's sooo good.

So just like every industry then? Don't act like it's only on iOS
Threads like this are what make gamers look like douches.
"You're not having fun! You're deluding yourself into thinking you're having fun!"
"STOP HAVING FUN DAMMIT!!!"

The best games on the app store are 5 minute distractions, tops. Perhaps that fills a nieche, when I've already checked facebook to chop some fruit while waiting for my order to be taken but anything longer? please. If i've got even 15 minutes than why the hell not get in some Mario Kart? darkspineslayerdodonpachi maximum, dodonpachi resurrection, deathsmiles, espgaluda II, bug princess, and bug princess 2 are pretty awesome.. but then again, I'm just a cave fanboy.
Well,iOS isn't intended for serious gaming, there are hardly any gamers that play exclusively in iOS.Those games are intended as distractions to kill time while waiting for something, and that's it.You won't use iOS for more "organized" gaming...
You really don't have anything to feel "bad" about :?

Pretty much this!
It's simply not enough for anyone all that into gaming as a hobbie, and they fool themselves thinking otherwise. The best games on the app store are 5 minute distractions, tops. Perhaps that fills a nieche, when I've already checked facebook to chop some fruit while waiting for my order to be taken but anything longer? please. If i've got even 15 minutes than why the hell not get in some Mario Kart? I'm typing this on an iPad, and listening to music on my iPhone. I love these devices to death and cannot imagine life without a tablet or smartphone anymore. but I also have a 3DS and Vita on docks right beside it. Which one am i going to be spending the most time with tonight? surely not a marathon session of Infinity blade when I can play MGS2. I challenge any System Warrior to give me a game that can hold my attention for as long as Metal Gear, or Kid Icarus. With the limited control possibilities, I'm not sure it can be done. Please, prove me wrong. darkspineslayer
If you had an Xbox 360 you'd feel the same way about those shltty ps3 games which aren't even worthy of 2 minutes of distraction. Surface RT >>>>> ipad
I mean seriously who looks more like a loser, the 20-40+ guy with the Vita or the same guy with an iPhone or iPad??ShoTTyMcNaDeSThat's an easy one, tablet/laptop user because they are big to carry around. Vita fits in my pocket like a phone so I don't seem them any differently as far as outside appearences are concerned.

I get what ShoTT is saying and agree the 20 - 40 year old looks with the Vita looks like the bigger moron. SLACKERS!
iOS games are time killers for when you're stuck waiting for the underground or waiting for the doctor or something. I definitely wouldn't sit down on my couch and play on my phone like I do with my 3DS. I wouldn't bring my phone to play games on an 8 hour transatlantic flight either... I'd bring my 3DS and an ebook reader.
i would be surprised if i was at a convention and we were talking about games, and someone pulls out their tablet/ipad/phone and talk about how amazing it is.
I got an Iphone 4 and an Ipad Mini. both devices i really like, both i use a lot, both i got a number of games on there, both of which i do not play hardcore with. just waste time on. so far the only game that i've 'completed' all the levels on is Angry Birds Star Wars. For me the most core-game i've played is Mass Effect : Infiltrator.
There's a Mobile Wars forum now, just so you know.
And the best games on iOS as far as I'm concerned are Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, Secret of Mana, The World Ends With You, Chaos Rings and a bunch of great RPGs I wouldn't have had the chance to play if I didn't game on iOS.
I don't understand the problem. IF someone likes games, then why are short 5 minute games a bad thing? One of my biggest problems right now is I work full time, my wife works evenings and we have two young kids. If I'm lucky, I get an hour A WEEK to play a game and find it almost impossible to even get into Skyrim or Read Dead in that short amount of time. I NEED games that are a quick fix.
I disagree that all ios games are only worth 5 minutes. I've played a lot of jetpack joyride since I got it. Sure, only 5 mins at a time, but it is a game I keep coming back to over and over. I can spend 30 minutes at a time playing angry birds, plants vs zombies, cut the rope, etc.
And as a fan of all games, I'm also a collector/fan of board games. Many board games I wouldn't pay $50 - $70 (or more) for are coming out for Ios. I play a lot of amazing games like Summoner Wars and Magic. I also picked up a couple versions of board games I already have because they are much quicker to play on ios than to play phsyically with other people. So I love spending a little free time in the evening playing Le Havre or Dominant Species in an hour when the physical game would take 3 - 4 hours and involve set up and clean up.
And don't get me started on how great ios and ipad is for kids games and other things that are both entertaining and educational. And a touch screen is much more "natural" for really young kids compared to a controller with countless buttons.
These are all options and possibilities that simply can not be matched by consoles or handhelds. And frankly, I would flip your own comment back on you and say that anyone interested in gaming as a hobby should definitely look at ios games. In fact I would argue anyone who would bash games for ios the way you have, and have zero appreciation for the benefits/positives of the platform isn't the "real gamer" they believe themselves to be.
Funny because I can play FIFA soccer, NBA 2K12, FF3, GTA 3, Modern Combat 3 and a whole bunch of other "full fledged" type games on my iPad and not look like a complete tool doing so out in public. I mean seriously who looks more like a loser, the 20-40+ guy with the Vita or the same guy with an iPhone or iPad??ShoTTyMcNaDeS
this, people are afraid to be seen with a handheld console on public cause the vast majority still considers them kiddy, whereas tablets/phones are socially accepted.of course its dumb but thats how people think

I don't feel like I get a any more dirty looks than people with tablet, laptops. But you are right some are more concerned about what others think over themselves, and are easily manipulated. Please Log In to post.
