It’s gotta sting to pay 1500.00 for a card that’s equal in power as an entry card .

Are you new to tech? If you're buying a new GPU thinking it's gonna be the best thing forever, then you have no one to blame but yourself. Folks that bought a 2080Ti knew what they were getting themselves into. The 1070 was better than the 900 series Titan. The XX70-XX80 cards outpunch the previous gens $1K+ GPUs all the time. That's how enthusiast level technology works.
Stop worrying about other people and their money... The video is hilarious though!
A) They got 18 months+, knew it was a rip off.
B) A 3070 will not be better rasterisation wise.
Now if anyone wants a good card now, they are cheap now on Ebay etc.
Happens all the time
Uh yeah so this.
This literally happens all the time. You can get the power of a 3090 in 2 years time in a 500-700 dollar card.
While in 2 years console gamers will have the same box with the same old tech and MAYBE a $50 price cut. But lets laugh at the PC gamers! Suckerz!

I remember when I got the GTX 980TI, it was the hot shit for its time, and was quickly dethroned. Yet, it's been almost 5 years and I still get great performance from it. Only if you want to have the best gigaflops does this pissing contest matter lol. I will be playing Cyberpunk 2077 on PC and I expect it will still look fantastic. I think part of that is because it was designed with current gen consoles in mind.

In 2 years time I'll be able to get the PS5 slim with Forbidden West bundled in, hehe.
That's why I always wait :D
Depends on how much someone can sell it for or how much you are willing to compromise on visuals/performance over time. Note: i have not bought a 2080TI...just for the record. i also just wouldnt have recommended a 2000 series to anyone on a 900 series or newer to be honest (especially if you owned a 1000 series).
If i bought one recently i would certainly feel like a complete muppet.
But if i bought one when it launched (the price has stayed steady since release), sold it for 700-800 quid now (which seems to be a thing) and nabbed a 3080.......not too bad. thats some very very nice performance and i would have had it for years.
the other side is if i bought one at launch and am flexible on performance/visuals then the 2080TI still has years and years of useful service in it. Yes its relatively badly balanced (ray tracing killing performance) and it suffers from the first gen DX rule.
but it still comprehensively beats a PS5/XSX. it will get the RTX IO feature too as i understand it and tricks like DLSS will further extend its life. it has the full tool set (DX ultimate compliant) to deal with the games of tomorrow. so 2080TI owners got next gen conosle beating performance years ago and should continue to get that until a PS5 pro/ XSX_X arrive (if they ever do).
so i wouldn't feel too sorry for them really....unless they bought one recently at full price.....in which case WHAT were they thinking !?
the 2080 ti was a very overpriced/ poor value monster when it released. now its a comically overpriced monster (seriously, dont consider getting one unless you are getting a great model for peanuts). but make no mistake...it's still a monster.
@goldenelementxl: better than never having software fully dedicated the gpu you buy. Unless you boast about dota and wow etc it makes no sense to be pridful about pc power when you virtually depend on consoles for the best base visuals.
Herms pay 1500 plus to play cheap games or console ports. Every 10 years there is only 1 are 2 aaa games that only run on high end pcs

Sure, let's pretend Cyberpunk 2077 which eats 2080Ti's for breakfast doesn't exist.
I guess Witcher 3 PC is somehow dependent on Switch version for "best base visuals" whatever the shit that means.
Never buy the TI's, go with the value card I went with gtx 1070 for 3440x1440 ultra wide resolutions.
970 was value 1070 was a value 1070 super was. good value
screw TI's man
don't say that to @BassMan he sold his 2080ti before this announcement for enough to cover the costs of a more powerful 3000 series card, and still got to use it for a couple years.
the stuff of legends.
I stuck with a 1080 myself and will upgrade to the 3000 series this fall
Shit happens man, no one cannot predict the future...unless you have a Time Machine in your garage that is.
You think a 3070 is entry level?
Compare to the other 3000 series, yes. I know they'll release 3060 (or 3050Ti for that matter) but it's for poor people like me.

This has always been a thing. I don't know why anyone is shocked that graphics cards are terrible at holding value.

yeap. i done that before with cards. penny on the dollar. made a profit doing that 2 times now.
@R10nu: if you think pc would use a 3rd party switch port something is wrong with you. And Certain polygons and character models aren't even worth it unless consoles sales are involved and prioritized.
When i get home ill break it down yall in a way no one can refute.
You think a 3070 is entry level?
No, people who want attention just know that if they exaggerate their point in a way that will irk people, they'll likely get more responses.

Nvidia says the 3070 is better in rasterization as well.
Did they? Fair enough, cracking deal then.
@R10nu: lol go outside more. You and these herms are too technical. I hope yall are trolling lol
When i get to myyyyyyy house i will explain everything in ela format lol
2080 Ti owners knew the card was a rip off from the beginning. With the introduction of RTX (new tech), coming off a mining boom (inflated pricing), and no competition from AMD (pathetic), Nvidia was able to price gouge the shit out of the 2080 Ti. It was bound to take a massive resale hit once the new cards were announced. Thankfully, I sold my card a month before the Ampere announcement for $1250 CAD. That will cover the cost of a 3080 for me. I knew I had to act fast once they stopped production of the Turing cards. This was signalling an imminent launch of the new cards. So, I got to enjoy the card for around 2 years and I am swapping it for an even better card at no cost. I can't complain. :)
All I know is that the new NVIDIA GPU's will run games with better visual settings, Better Ray tracing, better performance and in some cases at higher resolutions across pretty much all AAA games that will run and look quite a bit better on PC, so yes PC will take great advantage of these new GPUs to be better than the next gen consoles, this is just simply a fact. The consoles will still be really good and more than good enough for most people but to pretend that PC will not use the power for AAA games and be well ahead is just fanboy nonsense and ignorance. Just enjoy console if that's what you like, but stop making up BS about PC to make yourself feel better, it just makes you look dumb and like you just feel bitter. Grow up.

After the 3000 series announcement, the Used GPU market is now flooded with 2080Ti going for as low as $500. Everyone is now scrambling to sell'em as fast as they can. If anyone's smart, you'll spend the money on 3070 for $500. You did the right thing and sell it before 2080Ti lost its value. I almost feel sorry whoever bought it from you now lol.
Give it a couple years and they'll release something to make 3080 buyers feel like suckers. Nvidia's development is already a couple generations ahead of releases, there's no reason to release the latest, greatest tech when they can trickle out intermediate levels of their development as new, and people will throw nearly $1,000 at it every couple years. That's just how it goes.
And that's not even the funny part. The funny part is the games themselves won't even catch up to it for a couple more years, so you'll be spending $800 on those 3080s and by time games are to a point to where you can actually take advantage of that hardware, 4080s will be out.
I skipped the 2000 series myself as I still rock a 4790k and a 1080. I will be building a new rig sometime within the next 6 months with a 3080 and fully expect this to happen again when the 4000/5000 series release. Kinda the way it goes with this stuff.
Waiting for the new run of monitors with hdmi 2.1 and 4k 144hz to hit before building a new rig though.
Can't believe how long the 4790k and 1080 lasted for me at 1440p with a 165hz predator. Definitely showing its age now though.
Nice thing about PC is that we don't really have "generations" like console (I suppose you could go by die size or whatever they call it). A 2080 is going to be a viable card for at least five years, given the current state of things.
Seeing as next-gen consoles are inferior to current-"gen" parts found in PC's, a 2080 is going to last half a decade or longer, and still perform better than next-gen console. Well into the 4000 series or whatever is after 3000.
Hell, I was using a 980 up until the beginning of this year, and it was perfect for 1080p. I probably could have gone from 980 to 3070 and skip two generations if I didn't go to 1440p monitor.

YEah there's always something better around the corner when it comes to PC. Thankfully future-proofing is easily done; no one should be feeling buyer's remorse just because a better card comes out.
Plus, with developers generally catering towards the lowest common denominator (console) it is really rare to play a game that needs all that power; better performance, sure, but you don't need it.
@mrbojangles25:
Agreed. The 4790k was great when it came out, I overclocked to 4.8 and have been happy the last 5 years and I am just now getting to the point of "needing" to update. Almost built during the 9900k era but held off. Waiting for the next gen Ryzen now.
If i still had a group of friends on pc I played with like back then I would have probably upgraded sooner but everyone I play multi with are on xbox.
That being said. For those who bought the 2080ti recwntly and now seeing a $500 ish replacement is pretty tough. If you bought early I think two years was a good run of use.

Considering games will also have to be developed for the PS5 and Xbox Series S the minimum requirements for multiplat games on PC should be similar to those consoles hardware specs. Not to mention DLSS will give the graphics card even more performance. I expect an RTX 2060 with DLSS to go 3-4 years into next gen at 1440p-1080p 60fps console settings.
Eh. What does it matter?
These new cards are going to sell out in a matter of seconds when they become available online, and due to COVID (and the price to performance ratio the 30xx series are affording), they’ll continue to sell and be snatched up by bots and scalpers whenever new stock arrives. As per usual when new enthusiast tech hits. I personally am awaiting Rocketlake to rebuild, the 3080 has caught my eye at present moment, but I’m in no way deluding myself that I’ll be able to attain one anywhere near release unless I commit to parking my ass in front of my PC screen at 5a.m., rapidly hitting F5 while hanging on a prayer.
I’m just getting too old for that nonsense anymore. Even after launch dies down I predict stock to remain very anemic. I may end up buying a used 2080ti just as a holdover.
Yes I do feel sorry for myself.
I payed almost $2000 CAD for the 2080 ti at launch, luckily I sold it almost 2 month ago at a decent price.
Lost lot of money but not as much as I would would of if I sold it after the 3000 series announcement.
But I did enjoy every game maxed out and I experienced RTX for the first time.
Was it worth it ? not at all and I think it's a lesson learned.
I would be pissed too. I'm trying to sell my oculus quest cause the successor is already coming out but that doesn't sting as much as 2080ti to 3070
Us 2080 Ti owners knew there was going to be a more powerful card; it's obvious it was gonna happen. Actually, many of us might be rejoicing, because now we can upgrade without having to spend another 1200 bucks.
This is also why I bought my card at launch, because I knew I was going to get the most money's worth out of it if I got it then rather than a year later.
I will say this in topic's defense - the 2080TI price was never ok, and this new release does show the value up considerably.
That being said, you can save the fake pity for those people. They knew what they were buying. They had the money to spend and demanded the best at the moment, knowing it would not be the best in a couple of years because that's literally always true with tech.
Beta testers? Yes. But every rtx owner, not just 2080 TI, would be aware that they are buying the first generation of a new tech. If they got what they wanted out of the card then that's what's important

The supposed performance uplift from Pascal to Ampere is roughly in line with what is expected from moving forward 4/5 years. "Turing" messed up the perspective of many people and is making them think that Ampere is this epic leap in performance when it's just Turing that severely underperformed relative to its predecessor Pascal.
Lucky for me, I only got myself 2070 and been happy with it since and I must admit, RT tech in games was a nice feature in my opinion. Totally looking forward to 3070.
