I'm having a much better time with DA:O TBH. I think that's because it's similar to the CRPG's I used to play on a daily basis. At the moment I'm putting DS on hold until I'm done with DA, but I don't think I'll be finished with DA for a while.

yup just use some shrink warp and your good. I returned my psp with a cracked screen to wallmart :) all i did was switch the serial code. easy as pumpkin pie. TBH i dont even think you have to re wrap them if you return it to wal mart just say you bought it as a gift but purchased the wrong one.

siLVURcross
Yeah TC is strongly recommend that you reconsider buying Demon's Souls if you have that low a threshold for patience. I am just worried about your well being.... That and the well being of your television and/or controllers

It's not that challenging once you get into the groove of the game.

Yup I am on my fourth playthrough and now I know alot of tricks but now the only boss I can't really solo is the False King but other then that the game is a cake walk for me now. Haven't really tried to solo him to be honest but I don't want to risk anymore souls lost. I got soul sucked by him for 3 souls in one game.

Yeah, Dragon Age is about as over rated as it gets.

Praise for the story? It's a giant encyclopedia of high fantasy cliches.

Praise for the gameplay? The combat is BAD. Not mediocre, not over rated- BAD. The loot systems, spellcasting, dialogue trees, and everything else are either completely stock or just boring and mediocre.

The graphics suck too...

This is yet another game that makes me think all modern reviewers are on crack.

[QUOTE="Toriko42"]Have fun playing Demon's soul and farming the same place for the same item and dying many many times and being subjected to a brutal experience which I've been told is somehow very satisfying Seriously, if DA is too much for you, DS will slaughter youtreedoor

i rather farm, die, kill hard bosses that puts a BIG smile on my face when i do. then to talk to ppl for 80% of the game. imho, action rpg>>>>>>>>turn base rpg

But you haven't even played DA:O, so why are you already passing judgement?

noo but i did used to play pokemon, and that kind of gave me a sence of what turn base rpgs are about llol. demon's souls is the only rpg i really liked because it has that rpg addictivness and the hack n slash goodness

not sure why everyone is pulling the patience card and saying he wont like demons soul, at TC

dragon age and demons soul require very different kinds of patience...

dragon age requires a lot more patience as for listning and paying attention to story, dialouge, and characters...something that really isnt catching the TC's interest all that much, not becasuse there is so mcuh of it to read and such, but probably because the story and DnD theme of it all simply may not be appealing and really reeling him into the game...i havent played the game yet, though i can understand not enjoying the DnD theme

demons soul on the other hand requires pure combat/action patience, learning and mastering techniques defeating all of the tough enemies throughout the game, and dieing plenty of times in the process...really a whole different ball game

no reason for people the get on theri high horse and start calling him not a real rpg gamer...not every rpg gamer is going to enjoy and love dragon age

Its not like DS has a lot going for it inthe excitment department either. dodge, parry, slice repeat for hours and hours, with almost zero motivation beyond "the hardcoreness" of it all I suppose.. At least there is some vareity in DA.

Still, story is clearly not your thing. You wont have to worry much about story with DS, since it barely has one. But good luck if you lack patience, as you will probably die alot early on until you firgure out how simple DS really is. Takes about 20 hours or so to figure it out, and it doesn't sound like you will wait more than 5 hours to get going for real.

Considering you're not a very patient person it seems, Demon's Soul may not be for you as well considering it's one of those games where you just can't charge in and fight and expect to win every time. Lot of my friends complain about dying a lot and pisses them off. :) [QUOTE="Knight-of-NINE"]

You guy's can flame me all you want, but i put 8 hours into Dragon Age waiting for it to pick up but it's just too damn slow, Example, in Redcliff i had to talk to like 5 people in lengthy conversations before an upcoming battle, it took me the better part of a half hour of talking before i could finally get to the fighting.

Even when the battle ended, which wasn't long, it wasn't long before i was back to talking in more lengthy conversations, and before you knew it i was dozing off.

I mean dozing off to a next gen video game, c'mon, that would've never happened with Demons Souls.

So tomorrow back it goes and Demons Souls comes home, and all will be right with the world.....aahhhh.

Then you are really going to hate Mass Effect, KOTOR, and basically all RPGs in general. Trust me, I'm not that big on Star Wars, but KOTOR is easily one of the best games I've played in my life ;). But, look on the bright side: you're returning an awesome game for another awesome game :P.

Welcome to the world of REAL RPGs. Where deep, evolving story and character development count for something :)

AdobeArtist

Games need to have massive amounts of dialogue to be deep, evolving stories with character development?

Wow, sure fooled me!

Either way, I find the games with the best stories that really pull you in aren't RPGs most of the time. Maybe its just not my type of thing, could never get into Mass Effect.

Books have better 'deep, evolving story and character development' and probably require more input from the user as well!

the way i keep dragon age playable is by hitting esc every time some one goes to talk, shuts them up quick, brings you right to the dungeon crawling, or what ever you want to do.

dude DAO dialogs are uncecessary long and BORING!, its jsut frustating like "get on with it already, im tired of looking at your bland face texture", the story is a generic LOTR , mmo setting; one thing is to have long beatufiull cutscenes with some filling dialong, another thing is to have hours of ugly close-ups and broing diallogue where your character dosent even speak, its like a "im talking to myself fest", and LOL at people who call this offline mmo "true rpg", this is why i love FF and im super relutant at getting this for PS3.

every aspect of the game resembles a mmo.. offline lol,

People like the OP are why the RPG genre is almost extinct :x

Everything is being diluted into action/twitch fests to accommodate these short attention span adrenalin junkies. That's why Oblivion was turned into a twitch game, that is why Fallout was turned into a shooter. People who claim to be RPG fans who actually hate RPGs and only recognise the modern definition; X genre with stats...

This genre of RPG is a rarity and yet people are complaining it isn't like the mountain of action/shooter RPGs they already have to choose from  quit being so selfish and let the people who like these sort of games have "just one" that wasn't dumbed down to accommodate people like you.

The last game like this was when? 2006 with Neverwinter Nights 2? And how many action/shooter RPGs get released every year?

It is a very rare genre, which makes it all the more annoying when someone complains they wanted it dumbed down into an action fest. It is irritating that these people have become the majority; which is why games like Torment, Arcanum and Fallout just don't get made anymore. As someone who grew up with this genre it is to me how console users would feel if an entire genre starting catering to the Wii, dumbed down and simplistic for people who don't know what a real RPG is.

[QUOTE="treedoor"]

[QUOTE="Revolution316"]i rather farm, die, kill hard bosses that puts a BIG smile on my face when i do. then to talk to ppl for 80% of the game. imho, action rpg>>>>>>>>turn base rpg

Revolution316

But you haven't even played DA:O, so why are you already passing judgement?

noo but i did used to play pokemon, and that kind of gave me a sence of what turn base rpgs are about llol. demon's souls is the only rpg i really liked because it has that rpg addictivness and the hack n slash goodness

You're a fool if you assume Dragon Age is turn based. You know what assuming does to you, right?

The last game like this was when? 2006 with Neverwinter Nights 2? And how many action/shooter RPGs get released every year?

AnnoyedDragon
imo, this is the kind of game that is all the more special when it is not a yearly release.

[QUOTE="Jandurin"]I love how you say this when a game of the sort you claim to be extinct JUST released. :xAnnoyedDragon

It is a very rare genre, which makes it all the more annoying when someone complains they wanted it dumbed down into an action fest. It is irritating that these people have become the majority; which is why games like Torment, Arcanum and Fallout just don't get made anymore. As someone who grew up with this genre it is to me how console users would feel if an entire genre starting catering to the Wii, dumbed and simplistic for people who don't know what a real RPG is.

When you say "real" RPG, do you only mean games with DnD rule set type combat? Because Risen just released recently, and it's quite an awesome game, but doesn't use the DnD combat.

from what i understand, this game is not associated with dnd rules or forgotten realms or anything. Pure Bioware.

Yeah, but it does seem associated with the same type of combat. hit(dmg), miss, hit, hit, miss, dodge, etc.

No not necessarily DnD, I'm talking about games that are actually focused on RPG elements like character skill and role play. What people call RPGs today used to be subcategories like Action-RPG or FPS-RPG, the core RPG genre has nearly been forgotten while the subcategories have replaced it as how the genre is perceived.

The OP complained about there being lots of talking and not enough fighting for his taste, if you had said that 10 years ago people would tell you to go play an action or shooter game. Now people just expect an RPG to be full of fighting and maybe a minute of choice-less dialogue every now and then. That's what happens when the games industry expands and incorporates more casual/mainstream gamers over time, the broader the audience the more simplistic a game becomes.

if your patience is low with this game then gl with DS.

Rza_rectah

I don't know much about either game, but I wouldn't say 8 hours is that low.
