Just some thoughts from a 360/PS3 owner...

Is it just me, or does it seem like last-gen consoles earned their profits with more justification. To me, it seems like there is way too much hype towards overrated consoles & their overrated games now-a-days. The hype regarding future releases like Killzone 2 & Mass Effect is blown way out of proportion. First off, why doesn't Microsoft spend less time on hyping their product & more time on actually improving it? Seriously. Sony is doing the right thing on that end. But on the opposite end, why is Sony keeping their image of 'most expensive console'? Most of the people who can buy full-price consoles are morons, and yet Sony refuses to accept it. I bought my 60 gig PS3 for $400 and it was worth every red cent. But $600 + tax? That's way too much for me. I think that Sony should either encourage people to buy the PS3 for cheap using an alternative to overpriced retailers[like I did], or they need to have a price drop. From there, Sony needs to encourage gamers to put whatever money they saved on the console towards quality game releases...that way the retailers still earn their profits & gamers get more bang for their buck. However, since I don't buy indiscrimintantly like most of the idiot fanboys do, I will say this... PS3 has a better lineup of high quality selective purchases coming out, 360 is flooding the market with pop games, and both of them have some overhyped titles(but much more on the 360 side of things). Still, I believe that the PS3 is better for the sophisticated gamer & that the 360's community has waaaayyyy too many things holding it back...not to mention a fanboy epidemic. But remember, this is just one person's opinion.

I stopped reading after you said Mass Effect is overhyped. Granted, we haven't seen it in action, but if their promises come true, it will surely be something that we haven't experienced before on consoles. I can think of many other things that couldn't have been done before that are being done with this gen. Give it a chance, it's only been a year or so. In 8 years, we'll be talking about how ps4 and X720 will never live up to ps3 and 360.

To be honest, the more you spend time here on GS, the more you'll think how much crappy this generation of gaming is. My suggestion? Participate in other gaming threads.

microsoft hyping mass effect? mass effect is hyped because of its KOTOR style GAMEPLAY... and it just happens to have the best console graphics so far this gen. It's ok to hype that since we already know alot about the game and its style of gameplay, but i get why hyping killzone2 is retarded.

I hate this generation of gaming because two-thirds of the industry decided increasing the price of consoles by 75% or more was justifiable. Not only that, but they tacked on a 20% increase in software price to boot.

I also hate this generation of gaming for another reason. I hate it because Nintendodid it 100% correct, and people hate Nintendo for it.

Even if this made sense, it doesn't (ps2 was 400 when it came out, how much is 360 again?), you'd still be wrong. You can like Ninty and Wii all you like but the fact that ps3 and 360 can do things that it cannot, means that it is not 100% the way to go. I suppose if no one bought a 360 or ps3, then you might be right, but that did not happen.

I do essentially hate nintendo however, mostly because if they focused on what I want, I would have another option in gaming. As it stands, they left me with only 2 ways to go.

This is systems wars. Enter at your own discretion, this is the internet, people here can express themselves to an extreme if they so choose for. I, myself, cant seem to find out how some get the energy for these types of things.

But really if you dont want to deal with the hyping, hating, bashing and flopping then dont read this board! Although you are no better with your claim of sophistication to be with the PS3. You dont buy into sophistication, you choose how sophisticated you want to be. If you make a claim that you're system is more "sophisticated", then you're no better than any other sony, nintendo or MS fanboy.

The PS2 was $299 at launch, the same for the xbox. Fine! The360 was only a tad more expensive, but hey,I like the 360. The PS3 on the other hand...I have said enough about it tonight.

Sophisticated(Adj): Of, for, or reflecting educated taste, knowledgeable use, etc.

Okay, so I got my PS3 for $400. Did I need one of those damn $60+ wireless networking adapters? No, the PS3 has built in wifi. Do I need to pay online costs? No. How is the internet browser? Just as good as my regular computer's, and I can plug in my mouse and keyboard if you want. How is the online multiplayer? Just fine, with the exception of people not being able to say "you're such a noob." How is the playstation store? Not as user friendly as the Xbox Live marketplace, but it's still acceptable. How are the games? At this point, the 360 has better titles, but the PS3 will have a better selective catalog by Q2 of next year. What do I mean by "selective"? AAA's and/or highly addictive titles that people will purchase based on game merits rather than multiplayer or marketing.

You guys can talk all you want--Mass Effect is hyped more based on the 'ooooh pretty graphics' factor more then the promise of mediocre combat & personality quiz style gameplay. The only thing that truly impresses me about Mass Effect is that the characters will make realistic expressions based on how you communicate with them--but I'm sure everybody else was far too excited about the graphics to read that about it. Killzone 2 is hyped for the graphics as well, because idiots have forgotten that the trailer for it was pre-rendered. I doubt that the gameplay will be anything special for either of these titles. But the graphics will be gorgeous of course.

I bought my PS3 from Craigslist.org. No shipping cost, no buyer/seller fees---you just check the database for someone who has a low-priced PS3 locally and then you contact them. It's very simple... Then you meet somewhere, test the system, pay/trade them for whatever the auction specified, and that's it. On Craigslist, you don't have to pay what I like to call "stupid tax," and that's why I use them for all of my major electronics purposes.

I didn't read the original post but I agree.

Games suck

Everyone whores online *WTF Metroid is an action adventure not a FPS*

Small devs. are pretty much gone

Constant milking

People are hyping subpar online *get a pc*

Most game get justification on hype alone *Resistence, Gears of War, Halo*

Fanboys say the Japanese are racist

People REALLY don't care about gameplay. When was the last time you heard someone comment on the level design? How about the fluid combat *NG and DMC are the exceptions not the rule*? How about the story? Or what would be intresting to if the game took from another game? Nope all I see is "the graphics" "the A.I." "the physics" All pointless stuff that does NOTHING at all whatsoever to the game just makes it feel more realistic. That's all gamers care about now immersion and realism.

I have such a long list, but the gaming community of today is just plain pathetic. It almost makes me wish that we had another game crash and all of the idiots left so only the true gamers would stay and we would rebuild everything just like the old days. :)

You have a PS3 and a 360, both have a fantastic lineup of upcoming games, what are you moaning for?

You make me think that you look like you haven't played LOZ:TP or will never play that game because the graphics are not on par with your standards even if it is one of the best, if not, the best action-adventure game ever.

By the way, you sig speaks truth and it began 03/03/06 for the Xbox 360

When I started gaming all I had was a Commodore 64, and I never complained. Now gamers have it better than ever and all they do is complain. That's what I hate about this new generation, they don't appreciate nothing.

Zone of the Enders?

Anyways, I have no idea where you're coming from with this. Microsoft isn't spending money making their games fun? Mass Effect is overhyped? We're all foolish for buying retail? Sony should encourage people not to buy from the channels that make the companymoney? Microsoft personally is flooding the market with crap?

I mean, just about Mass Effect, I'm much more excited for the gameplay than the graphics. It seems to me that Bioware has a really immersive RPG that leaves a lot of room for player choice in how things occur. You mold your character and the plot around your decisions. That's interesting. The way you can interrupt other character's conversations and stuff is also really cool. It seems like a very immersive game to me.

By the way, your in your sig it says this...

I love lemmings. As of 7/3/07, Hour of Victory is ranked #3 on GameSpot's most popular games list, and is #2 on the Xbox 360. It has a rating of 2.0 by GameSpot and a user score of 2.3. I'd like to thank the Xbox 360 fanboys for making this possible.Mr. Sophisticated

You might want to know, the popular games list is done by the amount of hits the media from a game gets. You may see Fallout 3 near the top of the list at the moment, as an article was recently posted about it.

The reason Hour of Victory was near the top of the list, was because everyone (including PS3 fanboys) went and looked at the HoV review because it was so pathetically low. It has got nothing to do with sales.

Engage your brain next time please.

But with less quanity of quality of games, killing small developers, and more milkage.

Seriously the only "next-gen" game I've seen is Dead Rising.

Oh I thought you were gonna say something about how 90% of gamers are losers, you should of. And yes, on SW, Xbox360 titles are extremely overhyped. I haven't touched Gears of War in 4 months. Hell, I haven't touched my 360 until Forza 2 came out. And this is coming from somebody who owns GRAW 2, R6:Vegas, Burnout Revenge, Lost Planet, and GeOW. Ps2 > 360.

I changed my sig. I knew that it was not sales related, but I thought that people were just looking at it since it's a WWII shooter. Oh well. Not like it makes a real difference anyway...
